I was thinking lately “Why should anarchs get all the fun with bad pub? Think about how profitable it could be in the media!” So here are a few criminal ideas I came up with. They’re probably bad, especially because of Blackmail, but thematically it seems like something that should be explored.

Allie Hogan: Tabloid Caster
Criminal - 45/15
.When your turn begins, gain 1c if the corp has bad publicity (2c if they have at least 3 bad publicity).

Spin Doctor - 0c
Resource: Connection
.[click], remove 1 bad publicity: The Corp loses 2c. The Runner gains 2c.
Criminal - 1 influence

Quote Mining - 2c
Event: Current
.[current text]
.When Quote Mining is trashed from play (except by the Runner playing another current), give the Corp 1 bad publicity.
Criminal - 2 influence

Counterfeit Press Pass - 0c
Hardware
.[click], take 1 tag: Make a run. The first time the Corp rezzes a piece of ice during this run, give the Corp 1 bad publicity. If you trash a corp card or steal an agenda during this run, trash Counterfeit Press Pass.
Criminal - 3 influence

•Tip Line - 2c
Resource: Virtual
.When you access cards from HQ or R&D, access 1 additional card for each tag you have.
.As an additional cost to trash Tip Line, the corp must spend 1c for each bad publicity they have.
Criminal - 3 influence

I just want to say that I think this is an awesome idea. It gives criminal a way to not lose that precious breaker that they could only afford to splash one of. It’s an interesting alternative to typical recursion methods, but it doesn’t invalidate kills from the corp side. Great job.

And the 1 inf makes it splashable, while the power level doesn’t push out Anarchs’ and Shapers’ own methods of dealing with damage. I want a copy or two for poor Adam and his obligatory out-of-faction breakers.

An idea I’ve had bouncing around in my head after I saw Information Sifting:

Runner: Eli 2.0

Criminal
0 link - 12 influence - 40 minimum deck size

Discard your grip (at least 4 cards): prevent the effect of the last action the corporation took. Take one brain damage token and one tag, (cannot be prevented).

“The creators are angry. I don’t care.”

…

A completely bonkers ability with a severe cost that can get you very killed if you aren’t careful. (Maybe too steep, considering crim’s lack of recursion.) The corp can play around it, but it’s still a pain-in-the-butt everything-denial ability.

Also not sure about the 40 deck size, but I figure it would be good to have another criminal with a 40 deck limit, and it doesn’t really synergize with the ability anyways.

Ideas/comments? I’d love to refine this a bit more. (I think the wording is a bit too vague, but I’m not sure how to fix it.)

My take.

Eli 2.0

- 12 influence - 40 min

Take one brain damage, take 3 net damage, take a tag: Prevent the resolution of an operation, or prevent a chosen card from moving from HQ to its chosen installed location, or prevent the resolution of an action that costed the corp :click: or more. (costs are still paid).

With this wording, “can’t be prevented” is baked in because if you don’t fully pay a cost you don’t get your effect. You don’t have to trash your whole grip, but you’re only rescuing 1 card versus the original version since this happens on the corp’s turn, so I don’t think it’s too much more powerful and the wording is so much cleaner.

The prevention effect’s wording has to be finicky since the effect of Capital investors is to give you 2$ right away, and the effect of “play an operation” off the reminder card is to gain an opportunity to play Hedge Fund, but you want those to feel intuitively similar. This wording makes you lose operations, but doesn’t make you lose stuff you installed, since milling agendas is kind of lame.

An interesting nuance of the way this is worded is that if you try to replace an Eve with an Adonis and Eli is triggered, you have to trash the Eve to make room before the prevention window actually occurs, so your econ server will waste one turn. That should be fine of course.

Unlike the original more nebulous wording there is no way to negate an Atlas counter of Jackson pop here. It seems really hard to get a clean wording that would do that, although I know it’s the funnest stuff

Was bored and contemplating what a Globalsec Corp ID would look like.

GlobalSec: The Conflict Solution (SO GOOD of a name)

50/? (Not sure on influence, really, for this. I was thinking something like 20? Since unless there was some faction-ICE you’re probably going to be paying influence on a lot of your ICE suite.)

The first copy of each Gray Ops or Black Ops operation in this deck does not count against your influence limit.

You may include Security Agendas in this deck, ignoring faction restrictions.

Whenever the Runner suffers damage, gain 1c for each point of damage suffered.

The last part may be overkill, honestly. Not sure.

A way for Weyland to leverage their massive cash reserves for something other than SEA-Scorch. It has no subroutines originally, so it requires some maintenance to work.

The non-neutral security agendas give you a lot of 3/1s, a few 4/2s that I don’t think see much use (Sentinel Defense Program, Project Ares, and Character Assassination), 2 5/3s (The Cleaners and Labyrinthine Servers), and Philotic Entanglement. The 3/1s seem to be mostly a mix of ICE boosting and damage-enabling agendas, so that probably goes well with a damage-focused deck. Given the runner-side GlobalSec cards, I would think they’d have something more trace-focused, but maybe that’s where alternate IDs would come in.

Given card space and complexity, you might be better off just giving it a hefty bit of influence (25?) and dropping the “free first copy” for black and gray ops. There is some good neutral ice you can use if you feel the need to go all-in on Midseasons/Scorch, though HHN/Boom! will be a less expensive (for influence) option soon. Not a lot of tagging neutral ice, though, is there? Is there? I’m too lazy to check, but I can’t think of anything other than Hunter.

If you’re worried about the last bit being overpowered, maybe just give 1c for the first damage each turn, sort of a parallel to EtF and Palana. Security agendas give you a lot of access to plink damage from Jinteki and Weyland, so you could probably keep a pretty steady 1c every other turn, at least.
