Official Stimhack Netrunner Mentor Program Updated With Pairings! Now with a tournament!

Role: Mainly Mentee some Mentoring
Time Zone: GMT
Able to use voice chat: aye
Platform: Have OCTGN, vastly prefer Jinteki.net
Area where you need to improve: As an intermediate player specialising in just missing the cut, I’d be looking to get a handle on the decision points for some top tier corp decks like Foodcoats, Haarp, and Astrobiotics, as well as getting a better understanding of PPVP Kate.
Area where you can help: Could be useful mentor for a beginner because I’ve got a strong understanding of the basic mechanics/cards and am very patient. Additionally I’ve tried every Biotech build under the sun ;).

Area where you need to improve: I’m a good player looking to transition to great. I’ve won a few GNK (biggest tournament is 18 players), but choked at the regional level. Basically I’m looking for a good player to help me assess lines of play I might be missing.

Area where you can help: Any beginner player who’s looking to learn the basics of tier 1, and tier 1.5 decks I can help them. I don’t really do jank very often.

Area where you think you need to improve or area where you think you have some particular expertise: I’m very decent with Jinteki (PE and RP) and have played nearly all corp styles competitively. As for runners, I am mainly a Shaper man, but I have been know to make Iain and Leela work. As for credentials, I am a 2 times store champ and a ANRPC MAC veteran.

Kaiwen was a huge proponent of the Toronto meta, he encouraged player growth and terrorized us with his Account Siohon spam. He certainly inspired and taught me how to be a good criminal player.

Time zoneCentral time, for now. Traveling to Phoenix, AZ for two weeks, for work on the 30th, but it’s only an hour ahead, so that shouldn’t be a problem.
Able to use Voice Chat? Yes
Area where you think you need to improve or area where you think you have some particular expertise I understand most of the basic rules, though I’m sure there’s a bunch I don’t know. I’m very much a beginner at this game, but I’ve done very well in Magic, so once I start picking up the strategies, I should learn fast.

Alright thanks to everyone that has signed up so far! It looks like at this point we have about 55 students and 25 mentors approximately. This is wonderful, we would much rather have more people to help than less. In order to get the most people matched up, I’ve thought about a few ways we could bridge the gap.

  1. If you have any friends you know would make good mentors, please encourage them to join. Maybe someone from your local meta has helped you out a lot and you think they’d be good at helping out others.
  2. If you are a mentor and feel comfortable taking on more than one student, please PM me or reply to this message that you could. It shouldn’t be that much of a time commitment I hope, but I know that not everyone is free enough to do so.
  3. I’ve thought about pairing up some of our mid intermediate mentees because although you both might be not amazing but I’ve found that I can learn things from the game from anyone and playing “Over the Shoulder” with anyone can help to improve my game.

If anyone has any other suggestions or feedback about the above, please let me know!

Timezone: Central Time, available most week nights. My availability will crack wide open in 2 weeks after school.

Area of Expertise: I’ve piloted faster paced “aggro” decks to success. Butchershop, Fastro, Supermodernism, or Account siphon decks. Although, I try to familiarize myself with every new archetype so I can pilot just about anything.

Area where you think you need to improve: I’m still newish to the game (6 months or so) but know all the rules and can play through games no problems. Need to start thinking about how to win more games vs better competitive players as I’d like to start heading to as many tournaments as I can attend (Store Champ level). Usually play HB Glacier and would like help with that and also with NBN FA. My runner game is weak, still trying to find “my” runner, Kate, Kit & Noise all appeal but REALLY need help with standard runner strategy.

Usually play on Jinteki.net but happy to set up OCTGN if needed.

Able to use Voice Chat?: Yes, I think Skype would be best for screensharing as it offers voip in addition to the screenshare.
Area where you think you need to improve or area where you think you have some particular expertise: My strongest corp is Argus and my strongest runner is Express. I think that I am strong with these identities because they don’t interact with the opponent too much and have simple play concepts. Argus feels like I accidentally kill runners and Express feels like I am blitzing or losing. In games I understand the rules but I never really feel like I can plan my attacks or defense. I would also like to learn about deck building.

Thanks for putting this program together. Netrunner is a very complex game and not everyone starts playing with friends to learn and grow with.

Proficient at RegAss Anarch, Good at Improvisation/logic puzzles, and reading signals. Good at Weyland Supermodernesque builds that try to score out but can also kill the runner - Came 2nd at a Regionals/10th at UK Nats with a Blue Sun Midseasons deck. Good at NBN/NEH FA, Proficient at HB ETF Glacier, and getting better with practice.
Areas where you think you need to improve: Playing Jinteki (The Corp, not the platform) Playing jank, and playing Unfair decks, e.g. Convenience Store, Val DLR, Noise.

Area to Improve: Trying to move beyond pub-stomping on J-net; goal is to consistently top table. As far as I can tell, my three main weakness are a) difficulty calculating outcomes (both in cred math terms and click order terms), b ) applying my decks strategy too linearly, c) deck-building.
