Hyperdriver - how best to leverage a 7+ click turn?

I think that if you have spare MU going (or Leprechaun) this has the potential to be a really powerful setup tool for Hayley. With Hayley, SMC is also Savoir-Faire, so SMC for Hyperdriver, install something from grip (or vice versa). Immediately crack Hyperdriver for more setup speed. If you’re clicking for credits it doesn’t get you much, but if you have any better ways of turning clicks into resources (even Armitage) it’s got potential.

the messed up thing is like - that’s not actually that bad? if a one-cost (oops, kate, so it’s just a diesel) diesel is the worst-case scenario (and obviously there are a lot of crazy best-case scenarios as well) that’s a pretty damn good worst-case. also, in away it can be stronger than diesel: imagine if diesel said, if one of your first two cards is a draw card you may play that card immediately instead of drawing your third card.

Yes, having essentially 2 extra Diesels isn’t that bad. And there is the possibility to play it when clicks are more valuable: once Toolbox is down and I have some of my rig/Econ up.

It is replacing Q-time though. That card gains comparable value once a prepaid or two is down, and the conditions to gain that value are much easier to create.

Or overmind and deep red, heard that was top tier.

I thinkt the key to Hyperdriver is Leprechaun. That makes it a card that is easy to play, giving it a floor comparable to I’ve Had Worse - pay 1 to draw 3 cards. If you play MOpus, it can be a better Gamble (play to gain net 5 credits). These would then be the worst case for Hyperdriver in your deck, letting you build a combo deck around it (because the best combos consists of cards that are good by themselves).*

So what kind of deck uses Opus, Leprechaun and can, if the stars are right, use 7 clicks to good effect? Me, I’m testing a deck with Quest Completed (because fuck CaprBatty) with Opus econ with 3x Leprechauns instead of a console (and Notoriety). With 'chaun you can do stuff like play Morning Star, Battering Ram and maybe Garrote. Or just laugh at Nisei tokens with your 7 click turns. But SMC and Hyperdriver might be enough by themselves to Leprechaun worth it.

I’ll also play Sacrificial Construct to protect the 'chauns, but Clot/Sacrificial Construct is a hilarious combo as it is, so that’s no big sacrifice. The remaining question is then, Kate or CT?

*Yes, yes, Hyperchaun is a combo by itself. Hopefully you can find a 'chaun before you’ve installed too much stuff. And a first turn Hyperdriver is comparable to a turn two Diesel, like @voltorocks pointed out.

I think that there’s one other card that can use the extra clicks well that others haven’t mentioned: Paintbrush.

This is what I’ve been playing around with:

I’ll second what a few of you have already said:

  • Leprechaun is essential.
  • If you’re using Leprechaun, then it opens up other 2 MU options. These include not only Hyperdriver, but also Keyhole, later-game SMC, and Paintbrush.
  • Hyperdriver is good for 1. draws in a pinch, 2. a burst of econ with Opus, 3. making many runs in a turn, and 4. using per-click programs (i.e. Paintbrush).

See the description on netrunnerdb for why a Yog + Eater deck makes sense here.

Conceptually, Hyperdrive is another way to ‘store’ resources for Nasir on the board - either Quest Completed, work decompression against RP, multiple shots at a Caprice server, or just draw a lot of cards before diving in there with Faust.

Hyperdriver is best to setup your deck that would normally take too long to set up, and give up scoring windows for. I was absolutely crushed by an llds chameleon deck, fo sho

Cool looking deck, though I am a sucker for Nasir.

Hyperdriver turn means, run all three centrals (1,2,3), Quest Completed (4)…didn’t pick the right card in the remote? No worries…install SOT (5), Same Old Quest Completed (6, 7)

Yay

I have not played netrunner much in the last month and a half; and all I can say is that even though I know every card in that deck… I really don’t get it. Faust, quest completed, stimhack, no sentry breaker, what?

Seems amazing.

Just one thing, where’s the paintbrush?

Early game set up. Anything that gets something done at a better ratio of 1:1

Diesel, Daily casts, load the PW, play economy events. Whatever you want.

Friend of mine DLR’d me for 15 cards in one turn last night with a janky Haley mill deck. I was playing a low-density deck so it took him two more turns of DLR before he won with the Shard, but it was pretty cool!

Full disclosure, I totally had time to score out first, but I really wanted to see it in action.

Got back and the deck was a blast to play and actually did decently well.

Faust is incredible with Nasir as you lose your credit pool but you don’t lose your hand. If you really want to get in, you have extra Leprechauns, Opus, PW, etc to pitch - or just pitch everything and Levy.

Quest Completed is because Caprice is bullshit, but Marcus Batty is double bullshit. I ain’t going in that remote the hard way and getting programs trashed when I have two fully loaded Leprechauns and like 10 MU of glorious Shaper stuff installed. You can just play Clot if it’s too weird, but QC makes the Glaciers table flip.

Stimhack, obviously Stimshop is a classic thing but now you can Stim stuff off Street Peddler too. Such value, wow. Unfortunately kind of a nonbo with Faust but it’s still great.

The primary sentry breaker is Parasite + Sucker, followed by Atman + Sucker, followed by Faust + Sucker. Who has space for Mimic when you’re playing HYPERDRIVER!

Some highlights:

  • Hyperdriver turn yielded a 3 pointer from R&D, into Quest Complete for the win against a glacier remote. With one click left.
    1. Quality Time, 2) Diesel, 3) Draw, 4) run 3-ICE glacier remote, flip Faust off Peddler, discard 8 cards + Sucker tokens to break the server, steal agenda.
  • Hyperdriver turn, draw the rest of my deck to find the Levy, pitch every card except Levy to Faust to trash a heavily defended Blacklist, then Opus, Opus, Levy to end the turn.

yeuhp, running a very similar list myself, and hyperdriver is nutty in faust Nasir. Haven’t tried QC, though I can see the arguments in favor, actually. that said, batty is a threat to this deck (QC doesn’t solve the problem, as batty can be anywhere), and I think a sac construct or two might be in order.

either that or just do as I do: play psi games with ghost runner credits and never, ever lose

You should try a test drive throwing in a Collective Consciousness or two in there. Pretty good synergy with Faust and your Leprechauns. I’ve tried a couple in a Kit Faust deck I made and they are pretty fun. The utility does wear off in the late game though.

edit: in response to @voltorocks he’s got a Levy and 3 Clone Chips in there. You think he needs Sacrificial Construct in addition?

no, I really don’t, actually. More just think that QC doesn’t do a good job keeping you safe from batty (which is a big risk for huge leprechauns). better to plan ahead and be ready to rebuild if need be.

Seems like there are a couple of schools of thought.

  1. Added setup time (opus etc)
  2. Getting ready for a big multiaccess turn this turn or next.
  3. Quest completed/notoriety.

I’ve been kicking around another option.

Multirun ‘Turn Efficiency’

This may not be super feasible. But in situations where additional runs are valuable, hyperdriver can give you up to 3 more runs on certain servers. It has been mentioned in passing with multiple shots at caprice servers, but what about multiple runs on R&D?

I’m thinking build medium tokens from 0 to 6 in one turn. Install medium and run R&D like your life depended on it.

Or, as a similar option, Keyhole the snot out of R&D, 6-7 times at one go.

Both give you a single turn of drastically changed gamestate that the Corp has to respond to, that they may not have expected from you at the time. Its surprise factor may just win the game outright.

Of course you have to set up for such a turn at the cost of less aggression early, but it’s at least an interesting idea to thing about.

What do you all think the viability of that kind of idea is? Can a runner feasibly run R&D 6 times in one turn?

I might try that in my Haley Chameleon deck. Since Chameleons have a sunk cost getting them on the table, making multiple runs in one turn has a large synergy. I’m already packing Hyperdrivers, just need to find the influence for a Medium.

I doubt you need some nifty trick for including hyperdrive in a deck.

If I were to pull it into anarch having quest complete, keyhole, and wanton as targets would probably be enough. no need to be even more fancy.

I challenge someone in this thread to make a halfways reasonable deck featuring Hyperdriver into Duggar’s, with 3 clicks left to use the cards drawn. Just do it!
