Let's talk Whizzard

Pretty often, to be honest! I think you just have to roll with that though, because the way the deck functions fast enough to compete is by having all the burst draw. SOT doesn’t really do anything here, but maybe you could make room for Deja Vu or the third Stimhack.

How did Test Run fare? I didn’t see you using it in any streamed game.

From my experience I usually lose one Stimhack to Peddler, so I started playing 3 with Brain Cage.

Test Run was a great suggestion from @Calimsha. It’s the most versatile card in the deck, so I was never sad to draw it - having access to a tutor, recursion, or a surprise Femme is a great feeling. It did get peddled or brain damaged a lot, though. :frowning:

a little disappointed that you have deck named the morning after with no morning star :smiling_imp:

Every time you took a brain damage from an Ichi it made me so happy. Running through like a boss.

As a long-time Whizzard player, the MWL hit me pretty hard. 3 of the cards on the list are staples in the Whizzard lists most have been running for years. These 3 cards are Clone Chip, Parasite, and Yog. I’m curious to see what other players are considering cutting in light of the MWL. The build I am going to be testing starting tomorrow is this:

A few notes:

  1. have been playing Turntable over Grimoire for a few months now, and I haven’t missed Grimoire even once. Turntable makes NBN and Jinteki match-ups much easier. It’s not just good for swapping Nisei against Jinteki, either; it also helps against decks that use Mushin. You give them their Mushin scores and just pound centrals.

  2. Within the L4J/Wooley framework, I think the question is whether to cut NRE or Clone Chips. I think @kiv in his recent MWL video cut Clone Chips. I think either method can work. Personally, I am going to try playing without NRE first, and see how it goes. Having the access to instant Parasites is stronger than NRE, IMO, even if we are only playing with 2 Clone Chips. Granted, we do have Peddler for instant installs, but being able to recur D4v1d and other programs is pretty fundamental to this deck. I believe that it will be more than possible to manage without NRE, if piloted correctly. This may mean more of a reliance on Suckers, which is unfortunate as I had almost entirely cut them from the deck, pre-MWL.

tl;dr My first inclination is to -2 NRE -1 Clone Chip, slotting 2 Imp and 1 Datasucker in their stead.

You are willing to abandon parasites almost entirely? Are you letting Damon win?

Seriously though, this is my version that I really like. Inspired by @TheBigBoy’s Cutlery Kim deck, I adjusted it for the post-Damonpocalypse meta

I was considering Crescentus instead of Career fair but it puts more strain on the memory and is even more awkward with less clone chips. I found the legwork does more work and I can also cut to 45 cards.

This deck aims to pressure the corp mainly on R&D, destroying the ice in the way, but what I also like is that, by doing this, we put a strain on their economy, clicks and even the ice themselves and we can get in other places as well. The single legwork might need to be something else then.

The single Same Old Thing is, of course, Levy protection but it can also work for so much else when Levy is totally safe. Obviously, the way to deal with Turing is to parasite it down on centrals and D4V1D everywhere else. Now, I’m personally not sure what’s better - the 1 Spooned, 2 Forked or 2 Spooned, 1 Forked as of yet. It’s hard for me to predict which might dominate more in the post-Damonpocalypse meta - high strength code gates or very annoying sentries. Apart from Archer, sentries seems to be handled easily with parasite, so I’m not totally sure yet.

Turntable is obviously there for the astrobiotics matchup. We all know it’s not going ANYWHERE, and Damon should’ve expected that. I might even need to add clot for the late game when it might seem relevant. Something that’s good though, is that their ice got more vulnerable and worse, so that might be a boon and we might handle them more easily than pre-Damonpocalypse.

If you run Ice Carver, do you really need both NRE and Atman? I have tested it very little but never felt like I needed the Atman

Pancakes and Faust are really good. Post MWL, cut the Desperados for Grimoire or Turntable.

With the cut of Desperado, the deck needs way more money. I’ve gone up to 3 Career Fair with the 1 extra inf. I’m also on turntable.

Legwork isn’t great in a deck like this. It’s a strong card, but more fitting HQ pressure would be something like Lamprey.

Speaking of which, an alternative build would be one that somehow fits despie back in, cuts the chips, and plays Deja Vu + Lamprey/Parasite. Could be interesting.

Atman is the best card in the entire deck, IMO. I have won games with Atman as my only breaker installed. Other games, I will install another breaker just so I can dodge NRE on runs where I need to. Atman 3 (and 4 after NRE) can single-handedly win against a fair number of decks; it’s hilarious.

Love me some Atman. Tough world without CC, I’m seeing.

Played two games today; didn’t miss NRE. Then again, neither were against Foodcoats, which is where I think I’ll feel its absence the most. I need to pound out a ton of games against Foodcoats to determine whether I am confident bringing an NRE-less list to SC.

Another note: if BS Glacier comes back, I think the value of CC/Parasite increases, and the value of NRE decreases. In my experience, Parasite was always very helpful versus that deck, and I’m not sure how good NRE is there. Just a thought.

So far, after playing versus standard RP Glacier and 24/7 Haarp, L4J is still an insanely strong deck, and the 2 Imps are a huge boon. I always wanted to run them, but never had the slots.

Atman is good when it gets going. Large upfront cost though which makes it a lot harder to apply early pressure.

The funny thing about the new meta is people do play like parasite doesn’t exist, bunch of people turning up with next ice. We can punish this. I’ve been having serious success just coping with the influence loss wins like tictacs. Play against people’s expectations. Bring your supermodernisms and next HB’s. The whizz is ready:
