[Reina] Headlock: How to Make Sure Your Opponent Doesn't Get to Play Netrunner

I’m not sure if timewalk + a couple credits is down in value or a card I want to cut. maybe cut the david, because datasucker + parasite is very good against blue sun.

Back when this deck was the rage a couple months ago, I got to 2nd seed and managed to headlock a Butchershop while tag-me all the way up to 2/3 of his deck and 5 points to zero. When he finally got a Marked Accounts to live, he was able to finally get me. One IHW would’ve saved my bacon. I think this decks Plascrete or IHW in this meta for sure. Mine back then didn’t have anything.

I’m tempted to pick it up again - definitely need the Scrubbers and meat damage protection in this meta though.

Just drawing into 3 Traffic Accident would have done you in, too, right?

I’d rather run 1 wanton d then, and be able to recur it with deja, as it can score agendas (knocking out of HQ), but also busts up kill combos if you can hold them down long enough to draw it all again.

Hi, I have embarked on a project to transition the Headlock Reina archetype that I enjoy playing to use a Net-Ready Eyes breaker and program package. Right now I am having trouble fitting in the Lampreys, if there’s room for Street Peddler I could be convinced, but not having had time to practice with it I am wary. I was not sold on the Crescentus, so I am going with the Parasite/Datasucker plan, and given that Lamprey seems to be down in value I decided to axe it. I could be convinced to drop Atman, but it has proved very useful in testing. Those are the things I’m looking at, but all comments are appreciated. Here’s the current list:

Reina Roja: Freedom Fighter

3x I’ve Had Worse
1x Lucky Find ••

3x Parasite

45 cards (min 45)

I would do 2 kati 2 vamp for sure, I’m not sure how you can support that many vamps without kati in most games since its a 1 of, and your draw package is fairly light given you’re on grimoire and not vigil. I have no clue where you put the lampreys there, but honestly, if you just change the 2 xanadu to like earthrise, or 1 kati and 1 datasucker you have a pretty good kim/general anarch non-headlock build. Point being, its not very headlocky without the lampreys

The full breaker suite kinda defeats two of the major strengths of the deck, AI rig frees up your memory for more useful programs, and the short time to set up (literally just a card and 2-4 credits) saves you a lot of money to fight their econ with. Full rig is likely a better option out of a different ID. The crescentus are one of the selling points of the deck, not sure I’d cut them as well.

also I’m not sure lamprey being a 1 credit timewalk makes it worse, just means you have to play it differently

Put in a few games with this this morning, trying out peddler I decided to go crazy and go all connections, was fun, Off campus is pretty boss.

Not sure if 2 comp 2 trimaf is better, but getting 5 cr per turn with 2 clicks left over (trimaf+kati) was pretty great for the vamps. The draw power is pretty cool, and calling in favors let me surprise vamp in 1 game, massive burst recovery econ!

maybe start adding in sacrificial construct, you want to purge it, ill take 2 turns!

I know you wanted to go heavy connections because off-campus, but I feel like you’re running some less than useful cards to really push that.

If you cut Tri-Maf, Comp Employee and Calling in Favors, you could run three Lucky Find. Put in another Kati and toss the Human First for a singleton John Masanori I reckon. If you want to keep Off-Campus at this point with 8 targets, I’d probably drop down to 2 of. Put in 3 I’ve had Worse to strengthen the draw and protect yourself? Throw in another Masanori maybe. This sliiiiightly weakens Peddler because you’re running more events, but I think that’s alright. You could run plascrete instead of IHW if you’d prefer to avoid that.

Masnori is bad because you will definitely be making unsuccessful runs, and you will NOT want to be floating tags.

Human first is actually an awesome card, costing 1 credit (with OCA, it doesn’t “cost you a card”), and you get easily 5+ credits from it, and typically right when you need it. In fact, a whole turn of keyholing (3 times) can be paid for with it. Its actually very good.

Tri-maf is great econ for when you’re in a stand-off, and improves your long game when your deck runs out (in 3 of the 4 games I played, I decked out). CIF was fantastic burst never less than a sure gamble, from 0 credits…tough to call it bad.

CE is close, but it rewards you for getting the corp to rez, and the trace is fantastic vs stuff like viper, which is seeing play, and for ash which is DEFINITELY seeing play.

In all, each part is good on its own, and much better with OCA and CIF…I definitely don’t think lucky find is better than any of this. Click-credit wise LF is worse than CIF once you have 4 connections (not hard). Also peddler is much better with fewer events (especially since my deck runs out at some point).

I didn’t say my changes would make a good deck, just that it would help to cut down on a bit of the jank :stuck_out_tongue:

Honestly I wouldn’t play the deck because of the reliance on OCA and the fact that you get wrecked hard by Data Raven, SEA Source, Breaking News, not to mention the soon to be printed All-Seeing-I. CIF may be better after you have four connections out, but it doesn’t give you the burst potential in as many situations as LF and LF doesn’t require four other cards which you have to have drawn and put money into to activate.

Simply I can’t see any reason I’d want to run this deck over a Desperado build or something with Career Fair, Liberated, Daily, Earthrise etc. I don’t think Street Peddler is quite the right fit for Reina Headlock, or more specifically I think the deck has better options for what it wants to be doing at the moment.

Uh huh.

I played with this connection headlock yesterday and I loved it. I actually prefer it to the more standard despo version. Only changes I made were to add a second tri maf and cut one compromised. I also added a same old thing.

And the deck still has a ton of cash. But now peddler can put the corp into really bad situations. Finding a crescentus with one is awesome.

Oh man, if you don’t like peddler in this, give it a try. The corp already has tough calls on when to rez ice, not knowing if you’re just going to immediately derez it with crescentus, or even in some cases parasite it, or even be able to break it at all with eater…it grants a good deal of extra play. Will he drop a scrubber after getting in? A lamprey? Hidden info can really be exploited, especially if you can trick your opponent or make them paranoid about what you’re going to do.

I’ve not tested the whole thing enough to know if connections are any better at all, but I can say peddler is most likely a good add.

I like peddler. I like it a LOT, and I can really see the power level that it has. In this deck though I feel like we need to be far more precise in our actions and when we play our cards. I feel like Peddler takes some of that precision and control away from us.

Is that worth it? Maybe. Peddler is SO good. It may just be my own play style that is getting in the way of putting Peddler in. Just from all my playing of Reina Headlock, I’ve found that many games are won or lost on a knife edge, and I’m concerned that Peddler will hurt more than help.

That being said, I’m going to test with it. I just haven’t been able to yet because 'Straya.

Has anyone messed around with the Wyldside + Chronotype draw package with the Desperado build? Not too long ago, in addition to 3x Clone Chips, 2x Desperado, and the programs, a reasonable build might contain…

Now that we have some new cards at our disposal, do these new tools make the deck stronger, or is it better to not rely on a combo and retain more consistent damage resistance?

Is it worth dropping anything else for a Peddler too? In this case, you probably don’t want a Peddler, lest you hit a Vamped or your only IHW. Maybe drop the Knifed instead of an IHW or LA?

I think it’s safe to say Peddler is prob. good in all non-MaxX Anarchs.

Now tested peddler in my ‘connections’ headlock variant, 8 games in it is pretty great, esp with OCA. Confirmed.

How’s the Human First?

Gained me 9 credits (net of 8) one game, putting me just into Vamp range and letting me dig for the game. On the average, it gets me about 5 credits, but when I get it early, it can work as a deterrent to slow the corp (who, if straddling that tense line of credit-lead, doesn’t want to give me the bonus), or it can just be a Daily Casts. Seems good either way.
