How does d4v1d interact with Ice Wall? Did you mean Faust?
The space ice are boring though (and fundamentally flawed, like most advancable ice).
David is way more interesting and performs and important function for anarch as a faction, and counters a lot of degenerate strategies from the game.
I find investing in a rez cost reduction on ice protecting a server that the runner might not even run fascinating.
How does d4v1d interact with Ice Wall? Did you mean Faust?
Ice Wall was playable in a few decks (mostly in Tennin) when it was a cheap gearcheck for early game which could turn into a late game monster. D4v1d means the monster is no longer possible, the best you can do with Ice Wall without getting into D4v1d range is making it a Bastion which costs you same credits but 3 extra clicks.
I think this game like a investment game. When a corp spends more than 8 credits in a piece of ice that should be powerful, ruined by a breaker with so low cost and so universal, i don’t find it interesting at all, and the only effect is limit the game.
Sometimes i see the competitive players loss the focus with his love of good cards and don’t see how can limit the meta, just because they can concive that not so efficient cards should have his space in paradise a most diverse meta.
¿Why big ices are degenarate?
The problem is Faust/levy is in almost every single build now except green. It’s running into the architect problem pre MWL it’s a card that shrinks the game. At first I think it didn’t appear to shrink the game is probably why up to this point we haven’t seen any reaction by ffg but they really can’t ignore the shrinking of the meta game at this point by Faust although it took the Faust/levy combo whereas architect took only one card and was a slower burn to realization that you put it in every deck and every deck has to tech against it. Faust is in that level now. Netrunner has lost popularity and players to the card now but more importantly it’s lost meta game space which is the reason it and other cards probably soon will be on the MWL. It’s obvious ffg is dragging its heels because of a pride problem.
Ice Wall is still technically interesting. You have to decide what breaker you want to tax. 0-1 Advancement: Faust. 2: Faust/Corroder. 3: Corroder. 4+: David. You can’t get that from a Bastion. The problem is that what it really taxes is Knifed/Parasite, and in that world it’s not effective. (You used to be able to get around Parasite by just advancing it once a turn and eventually purging to have a sudden Hadrian’s Wall. With Knifed+David in existence, this strategy is a losing one. So it wasn’t strictly-speaking single-handedly that David removed Ice Wall, Knifed helped. And in that world, a Bastion is better because it costs the Corp less to get the same effect: Eat a Parasite.)
Errata change for D4v1d:
Hosted power counter: Bypass one subroutine on an ice that has strength 5 or higher.
Bam, suddenly it’s no longer useful for the Cutlery, isn’t completely useless, and no longer works with E3 implants.
And also gets owned by Guard
While I do like this, it also makes Blue Sun probably stronger than it should be. I could be wrong though.
On a more serious note, I like the suggestion as well. I don’t think Blue Sun is at risk of becoming overpowered anytime soon.
I don’t think there’s precedent for bypassing a single subroutine. I believe the only way bypass effects work now is by bypassing a piece of ice in its entirety, not specific subroutines of that ice.
Yeah, it would probably have to be ‘spend as many power counters as the ice has subroutines to bypass the ice’, which makes it much worse against Little Engine too.
