How do we make Weyland good?

I don’t want to abandon them altogether - I like Wormhole and Nebula (although nebula did sorta get blown out by Assassin). If Weyland had slightly more potential to advance them quickly and for cheap (like a transaction that advanced ice +2 or +3!) maybe they’d be more playable. And Trick of Light Titan wasn’t bad either.

What about an asset that can surprise out advancement counters. E.g.

Power Spike

Asset. 2 rezz, 3 trash.

[trash]: Put 3 advancement counters on a piece of ICE that can be advanced. Remove these counters when a run ends. Use only during a run.

This would allow you to surprise rezz a Wormhole or Nebula for free, also works with Woodcutter / Tyrant. Might combo too hard with Blue Sun though.

Assassin is a brutal facecheck, but it doesn’t trash a program unless the runner is pretty poor, or doesn’t care. Nebula still has a place, I think.

I hope so. I haven’t seen it in a long while. Just curious about Titan with 3x TOL, 3 SfSS, 3 Howard, and one booth or Ash? SfSS doing double duty to save on the ice advancements and TOL advancements?

It’s overpriced and somewhat situational. Like almost all weyland ice. I’d still usually take it over Grim though.

Regarding that Titan FA deck. What do you get that yellow doesn’t get more of? I guess you can do proper FA and have a Scorched Earth kill threat. Maybe…

Nebula unplayable in red meta with most lists running 2 D4v1d 3 clone chip. just my opinion. same problem with wormhole and asteroid belt

Yeah, with so many decks having D4v1d (even Noah’s Kate runs it now), the rest of the Shapers having Sharpshooter, and what few criminals there are left out there usually running Faerie (Geist usually being the only one that occasionally doesn’t run it), it’s been a while since I’ve felt like Nebula was a card to put in a deck.

Funny. I just wrote that exact thing in a PM. Hahahaha. Once D4v1d rotates out, I think space ice will need just one or two support cards to be fairly effective… unless they reprint a D4v1d clone right afterwards…

I’m pretty sure the trash your R&D for an effect is unique to Weyland. I love this mechanic because it’s very good thematicely for weyland : short term profit over long term investment.

So why did we not see more of card like power shutdown ? Do jackson would make them too good ? Anyway here is my attempt :

New management
Asset 2 rez 3 trash
When your turn begins, you may trash the first four cards of R&D and gain a click

Brutal management
Operation double X creds
Double text
Thrash X cards from R&D, add X advancement token on an installed card

Yes with the second one you can fast advance 5/3. Might be a tad overpowered :stuck_out_tongue:

Weyland is also unique in trashing cards from HQ, which can obviously have stronger effects since #HQ is limited. Like if Brutal Management was trashing two cards from HQ for each advancement I could see it happening (obvious CI combo is obvious)

You could also fast advance a Govt. Takeover which probably makes this untenable. Maybe a restriction like ‘to a maximum of 4’?

I much prefer trashing from r&d than HQ, I don’t know why. But yes it would be a good change, it would limit it’s power and might encourage people to play research station (probably not though).

Adding a upper limit would also work. It would make 4/2 fast advancable which would be very good, but we’re looking for good cards.

I have to try one of these Titan FA decks. They seem super fragile. Some questions:

How does it make money? Beanstalks, Hostile Takeover, and Restructure?

How does it not lose to R&D lock? Archer on R&D, Atlas Tokens, and maybe a CVS Medium-dig bailout?

I can’t imagine you have money or influence for any taxing ice. Does it use Space Ice and regularly advance them before rezzing? If so, dear God…that can’t be effective.

They are somewhat fragile; some play Mark Yale, but yeah mostly weyland money, space ice/neutral ice. They rely very hard on that first atlas.

Money: Hostile, Gamble, and Capital Investors for me. Some like to assume they’ll score an agenda at some point and play a 4th Gamble in Mark Yale.
Not lose to R&D: Archer on R&D and Atlas Tokens.

You generally get to have one or two taxing ice from your influence. Space ice is ineffective from what I’ve tried. But most Titan Rush/FA decks rely on gearcheck ice instead of trying to tax the runner out.

Building a Better Weyland:

  1. Financial Transparency: 2cr/4infl. Transaction Current-- Recurring credits do not replenish at the start of each turn. “We’ve detected some unusual activity on your account.” (Yes, this hoses BWBI, but it provides a strong, thematically appropriate effect that can protect assets and force open scoring windows.)

  2. The Freezer: 2cr/5trash/??infl. Upgrade–The strength of ICE protecting this server cannot be lowered. (simple defense against parasuckers; helps a lot of low str. Weyland ice)

  3. Timebomb: 1cr/7trash/4infl: When Timebomb is rezzed, place 3 (or more?) power counters on it. At the start of your turn, remove 1 power counter. When there are no power counters left, do 8 meat damage. (This lets you leverage the threat of meat damage in a whole new way. You give up the element of surprise, but the runner then has to spend the next 3 turns dealing with the threat rather than trying to steal agendas. It also goes along with the “countdown” mechanic of Public Support.)

This but only if it has the old Urban Renewal flavor text:

“The paperwork has been clearly posted in the basement closet of City Hall since last Thursday.”

Am I missing some way that Timebomb isn’t strictly better than public support? I mean I understand Weyland needs a strong effect at this point, but strictly better/almost strictly better tends to rub me wrong, I always like that 1 more credit to rez or 1 less credit to trash for at least a symbolic tradeoff even if it would still be way better. (a 4th power counter would do it I guess)

I like the idea of this, but would prefer dealing slow amounts of meat damage at the cost of trashing cards from R&D. Something like “at the start of the Runner’s turn, if XYZ is rezzed, deal two meat damage to the Runner and trash the top two cards from R&D.”

I like the idea of timebomb but I really dislike huge trash cost. Also 8 is a lot. Something like 1 to rez, 4 to trash and 4 damage seems already very good.
