[Reina] Headlock: How to Make Sure Your Opponent Doesn't Get to Play Netrunner

3x Daily Casts and 3x Earthrise is all you need to justify splashing 3x Career Fair. Plus opening up slots in your hand to draw more cards. And triggering Hayley if you are playing her. I’m in.

(Also maybe 1 Inside Man for a stealth deck with lots of chips)

Edit - Sorry to have brought up a kate deck in the Reina thread. I forgot I was here instead of the other thread where it was mentioned. I can move it or it can be deleted if people want, but I think the ideas can also apply to Reina so I’ll leave it for now.

I’ve been playing a very resource-heavy Kate deck with Supplier for a while now (posted a version of it in the tournament winning decklists thread a few weeks ago).

I think Career Fair really speeds it up a lot. It saves you the three credits lit it always would, but it also gets you the effects a turn sooner compared to supplier and smooths out the early game significantly, which was the roughest period for the deck. Being able to Career Fair an Earthrise for 1 credit and still have Daily Casts pop off Supplier for 1 the next turn and get two cards (to drop even more things on the supplier) turns into a compounding/cascading effect. Every time you use it your future turns are accelerated since you’re getting your long-term cards out 1, 2, or 3 turns sooner.

If Modded were 1 influence, it would be splashed all over the place. I think Career Fair at one influence is really potent for a lot of cards in this deck: Liberated Accounts, Daily Casts, Xanadu. I’d keep the Lucky Finds though.

After a bunch of test games tonight I’m completely sold on the 2 Career Fair. They were a card I was happy to see at any phase in the game and smoothed things out significantly.

The fact that it removes 2 cards from your hand for one action is important. A lot of times when you have them in a lock you’ll draw 2 from Earthrise and 1 from Vigil at the start of your turn, but you still want to run HQ three times with Lamprey. This helps you not have to discard extra cards.

If you have $3, a play like Career Fair Liberated, gain $8, then go broke killing Adonis is great.

In comparison, if you have Lucky Find with Liberated then “Lucky Find, click $1, then go broke killing Adonis” is bad because you can’t play your Liberated after and so is “Lucky Find, Liberated, let Adonis sit because all your money is invested in Liberated”.

Is it good enough to want 3 or is 2 a good place?

With 2 I was able to use it right away every time I drew it, which is nice.

The 2nd Lucky Find is better IMO than the 3rd Career Fair, but you could make the downgrade if you want to fit another 1 influence card in there like Hades Shard. I think the Clone Chips and Crescentus are non-negotiable.

For reference, my current list:

Good to know.

Depends; I don’t use them at all anymore, but for core Headlock they’re integral. I’m so far away from the original list at this point I’ll have to make a new thread when regionals season is over, but there’s more than one way to skin this cat.

I tried Career Fair tonight as well. I used @Kivs list, essentially. They felt pretty good. Passed my expectations

As previously stated, being able to go “broke” trashing econ but still playing econ of your own is huge. And another fair point is being able to to use your cards effectively when you have the hotels and vigil going.

So add one more anecdotal positive experience to the mix!

gum your teased list has my attention. I am pretty anxious to see any build that involves Rooks and Reina. Probably one of my favorite combos pre O+C.

I’m not running rook anymore either though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s the version that did it, though.

Go For The Throat Tacticts

Reina Roja: Freedom Fighter (Mala Tempora)

Event (14)

Hardware (6)

  • 3x Clone Chip (Creation and Control) ••••• •
  • 3x Vigil (Order and Chaos)

Resource (8)

Icebreaker (6)

Program (11)

15 influence spent (max 15)
45 cards (min 45)
Cards up to Order and Chaos

Deck built on NetrunnerDB.

Also did this long before eater came out:

Reina

Reina Roja: Freedom Fighter (Mala Tempora)

Event (5)

Hardware (11)

Resource (12)

Icebreaker (9)

Program (8)

15 influence spent (max 15)
45 cards (min 45)
Cards up to Honor and Profit

Deck built on NetrunnerDB.

There’s various builds that were in between all of these things that I don’t have an electric list for. Might be at home, though, I can look. I think I built some of them during the netrunnerdb shutdown. The bottom one had the supplier in it right after that card dropped.

The central theme of any Reina deck, all you need to have a good Reina, is a fluid economy, breakers to get in, and ways to devalue the corps resources. Rook, Crescentus, Parasite, etc. They all work. You could probably even kraken if you wanted to.

I’d say the big thing in this deck now is lamprey. Its the game changer since you move from passive to active economic denial.

desperado acts as a mini scrubber, helps in the hb matchup. Considering 1 yog just to act as a parasite to every enigma on the board. Lots of yogable code gates lately.

EDIT: Posted the correct list instead of an older one

desperado- putting other consoles to shame since 2012

have you tried hacktivist meeting yet ? that is the one card i was curious about in decks like this.

I actually was running 2 over david and keyhole #2, thought it was in the list but I guess I didn’t add it on netrunnerdb. That’s what I get for copy pasting I guess.

Now I need to try this deck again :stuck_out_tongue:

Why Earthrise over IHW?
Why only 2 Eater (seems sad against Architect)?

Earthrise is a more powerful effect, and I find I don’t need help in the matchups where IHW is at its best (pe/scorch). Especially without vigil or logos to dig, you need all the card draw you can get.

2 Eater is because knight is often more powerful, unless they get a lot of ice and money very fast. Most ice is similar in price to break, and knight lets you actually access cards

The difference between IHW and Earthrise is 3 credits for 3 cards. That’s a really expensive Diesel.

Are you putting Knight on everything that you face-check though? My guess is you just aren’t big on face-checking centrals; instead you are spending the early game setting up. I feel like a corp who knows your deck could score pretty safely in a 2 ice remote with only 1 ice on centrals, but I guess that’s what you mean about if they get a lot of ice and money very fast. And even then they are risking Eater -> Vamp, and will be putting themselves at risk of getting headlocked by scoring.

Most of the time I just face check naked. Architect and komainu are the only 2 I’m really worried about, and no one plays komainu anymore, so odds are it isn’t one of those two. Occasionally I puss out and wait for breakers, but I usually lose those games.

Whenever I face check it is ALWAYS Architect ;_;/

depending on their money/which click it is architect can be recoverable, hacktivist meeting also helps against the asset econ architect hits.

I’ve recently started messing around with this archetype, starting with @SamRS’s SSCI list. One recent catch though: Turning. It seems to turn a tough matchup worse. Any thoughts?
