Announcing the First Annual Stimhack Store Champions Invitational!

This is not necessary, and IMO will take a while for people to figure out. It’s nice to be on call with someone, but I don’t think it saves much time and I am not going to ask people to do it.

Disconnects are fine as long as you reconnect within the allotted 2 minutes OCTGN now gives you to come back. If you hard disconnect, you will forfeit the game you are playing, and if it’s game 1 of the match, your opponent will be obligated to remake a game so you can play game 2. Players will be required to report all their opponent’s disconnects with a screenshot so we don’t have people trying to scam this system, though I don’t think anyone will.

Do what you gotta do; I think there will likely be at least 5 days or so before the tournament where it will be rezzed on OCTGN. If you want to get in games before then, you can always find someone who is qualified to test with and use proxies on OCTGN if you don’t know anyone who will want to test with proxies IRL.

Sometimes you wait 10 minutes and it doesn’t. Sometimes OCTGN just crashes. What then? I won’t even mention the usual Power Shutdowns.

Yeah, after reading the factsheet I remembered - my OCTGN crashes “often”, and sometimes it even resets my PC. OCTGN crash is “in theory” possible to recover, but not really, at least for me. PC restart is not recoverable.

I agree with the rules, but I still feel I will get boned by that. I’ll restart PC after every game to make sure

Also, what about time? What happens if both players forget about time? Is anyone going to be doing 5 Minute warnings? Time is out warnings? Last turn for player A and then last turn for player B warnings? Can we maybe sort out some web page that will be official timing and we can then all look at that and show it in the screenshots as well?

Yeah, no, not buying that one

We will announce the end of round time and PM players on OCTGN to remind them when time is called.

We realize that sometimes this sort of thing happens, but there is not a lot we can do besides hope OCTGN reconnects. We can’t restart games without making a lot of people wait and putting opponents of disconnectors at a time disadvantage. I encourage all the players to restart OCTGN between rounds; usually OCTGN disconnects are a result of the fact that the client takes up more and more memory as it runs, and restarting solves that.

You don’t believe me?

I think it’s due to RAM. I have all 4 slots filled (32 gigs) and OCTGN is not the only application that restarts my PC. But it’s the one that does it the most. I’ll try removing two slots, and roll with “only” 16 gigs, I think it should help.

Sounds like your cpu is trying to make more cycles than it can than anything. But please complain to microsoft’s .Net framework(which is still not made FOSS, after they announced they would like a year ago), not to OCTGN

I was running into the memory leak issue with a disk hdd and 8gb of ram. Now withe 16gb of ram and an ssd. It is solid. I am quite curious as to why the memory leak.

Or don you think it is just how everything is changing?

For my problem, I’d say that my system is not fully stable. Either the clocked processor is causing issues, or (I think more likely), memory controller can’t handle 4x8gb sticks.

Run some benchmark tests, that will pbb tell you what’s wrong.

I did way back when setting up the rig, and I was failing memtests. Hence my memory concern. But at the time I wanted to try out the memdisk option, and that proved to add very little benefit to standard running from SSD. So I might as well remove the extra 16 gigs, I don’t think any game will use more than that, and I’m quite sure that no program will.

btw, we’re way off topic :innocent:
