Damon's six month rule

The vast number of alternative formats for so many different competitive games (including draft for Netrunner) disagrees with you strongly. There simply isn’t any evidence to support your fear of fracturing the community.

Account Siphon always had complainers, so did Caprice. Did people stop going to tournaments in large, significant quantities at those times? People complained and looked for ways to play around. Now people are complaining and not having fun playing the game anymore. If you can’t or won’t understand or accept — or at the very least sympathize — with the difference between those two things, then I’m really not sure what more you can contribute to this conversation.

I think what hes saying is the players who attend the events (usually the highest caliber and most passionate players, the ones traveling hours to events) have a better idea of what is good or not good for the growth of the game since they are the ones experiencing first hand how cards are disrupting players experiences and desires to attend events. Designers may not be as in touch with that portion of the player base maybe because they aren’t as passionate about the highest levels of play which is what these sort of balances are usually built for or because they simply aren’t able to play in those events to really get an idea of what the players are experiencing or maybe have some personal bias about restricting or banning cards due to their personal attachments to the cards they’ve created, Sometimes cards slip through the cracks, people are human and make mistakes and its ok for a group of people to objectively say, “this isn’t right so lets fix it as best we can” through either errata, restriction or outright banning.

Exactly. Most people at FFG are too busy enjoying their own kitchen counter version of the game to take keeping the competitive environment healthy and fun seriously. That’s totally fine for them, but it may not be what’s best for the community (and thus the company).

It all starts with taking the MWL out of Damon’s hands and putting that responsibility in the OP department where it belongs.

I think this community is savvy enough to realize that if you play by an altered set of rules locally that when you travel things will be different. Any official event will have to play by FFG rules.

We had a tournament locally where you got to build a deck in one ID, then swap to any other single ID for play. I didn’t get to play, but the reaction to it was overwhelmingly positive. It was broken and crazy, but apparently immense fun. The world didn’t end, and if a local players group agreed to try something different for a while, there would be no lasting damage.

I think your concern is people coming to an agreement. That boils down to the personalities involved, and has nothing to do with the inherent positive/negative of the idea. I have a pretty high opinion of the Netrunner community as a whole, so I don’t think trying to enact such a plan would backfire. YMMV

The community hasn’t even managed to organize an European tournament, so I think one has to be extremely optimistic to think everyone will get together and agree on a common set of rules that is better than that of FFG.

But really, I think it’s fair to believe that each country or region or even tournament having its own ban list will not hurt the game. But there will be a bunch of rulesets. Poles or Spaniards aren’t going to agree with what a small group of Americans decide.

But yeah, I I think should drop this. Good night everyone, thanks for the nice discussion.

See, counters like Slums doesn’t actually make the situation better. The issue with it isn’t power level, it is the NPE. It is still boring even with Whizzard and Slums.

I see where you are coming from. I agree it’s unlikely the entire community will come to a single agreement on an alternate rule set.

I’m coming from the perspective of tackling the idea on a much smaller, more personal scale. Like the local meta level, or online, maybe a group forming a Jinteki/Stimhack league. As long as people keep playing, alternate rules/card lists will probably be healthy for the game as a whole.

Really? I thought there was that Euregio tournament or something like that.

Euregio was far from European tournament - it happened in Western Germany, near border with Netherlands and Belgium, gathering mainly players from those 3 countries.

Ah, I see. I’m American trash so I just lumped it all together in my mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

European countries are much more fractured in culture than America. Ffs most of us can’t speak or understand the language of our nearest neighbours. So it is quite understandable that we have a hard time organising something like an European tournament.

Clic install, rez 1 is just like playing Hostage. Its main problem is it should have been an operation: double aswell.

I dunno, Germany always seemed able to unify the continent pretty quickly.

The FFG internal meta being different is possibly very much an issue - I wonder if they might be more forgiving of NPE than the event going community. If Damon turns up with a hellish IG deck his opponents will be people for whom card games are their job; they aren’t going to be discouraged or reevaluating if their free time is worth this experience.

It’s not like hostage because hostage doesn’t stick around. You’re right it should have been an operation, or trashed itself for the tutor. That is a style of tutor that we’ve seen befor and isn’t totally bonkers.

There was a breaker tutor in the original game that was effectively “SMC on a stick”.
I never played the original game, but on seeing that card it appeared broken to me, and MCH is quite similar in that regard.

MCH should have cost a click to search and put in your hand, like the games other reusable limited scope tutors, Executive search firm and Levy University.

And Djinn, and Tyson Observatory (that one is even a two clicks!).

I remember thinking that spending 1 extra click to card the card you want/need was pretty good value.

Compared to MCH, it seems so very, very slow.

But Replicator doesn’t take a click. It is much, much more limited though.
