This isnt in the spirit of the game, Be like the borg my friend and adapt or for ever be unhappy. LCG is all about the meta game
As my spirit sinks every time I play against Faust and Museum, I heartily disagree. The players are the game.
Agreed the players are the game, the players also make the meta, so know your meta(players) or for larger events The Hivemind Meta and adjust your decks to suit, Timmy wong does this! be like the WONG
I actually feel often playing these games that Museum is pretty annoying but isn’t the worst thing that’s ever happened. On the other hand, I think one of the worst things that has happened was City Hall. The fact is, people talk about Museums recycling Museums, and that’s fair, we all hate seeing it. But finding that Museum again in say, a 35 card R&D isn’t a guarantee. Being able to instantly tutor it again, along with other cards, is a huge problem. Think of how much worse all these asset spam decks would be if City Hall didn’t exist. Think of how much more trouble IG could get in if they couldn’t shuffle their agendas away with Heritage each turn. Without being able to instant tutor these cards it would be a lot more difficult for these decks (which would be a good thing IMO). Like, I generally think it’s ridiculous to “ban” cards, I’ve never thought anything should be straight up banned. But if I had to choose one card, it would be City Hall.
At least change the phrasing to say “Name an alliance card, then search R&D for a copy of that card and play/install it. Shuffle your deck”. That way they couldn’t choose to see the top cards of their deck to see if they want to Heritage. It would at least be a start.
I actually am primarily a Shaper player
, but I think I undestand the interactivity in the Asset spam decks…
For example the NEH asset spam is more fun and interactive, because it is actually meaningful to run their remotes. They could be hiding agendas there. And if not, I can trash their Mumba Temple for mere 3 credits to slow them down (what a bargain!).
Now with IG, they pretty much never hide agendas in remotes. And trashing their Temples and Museums is usually complete waste of clicks and credits, unless you’re on Whizzard with Slums or something…
What IG does thanks to it’s stupid suport cards, is to build the board so fast, and so strongly protected that runners don’t really have any chance to signifficantly disrupt it. Unless they build the whole deck just for trashing assets.
you just sound like you haven’t played against IG very much. I do not mean this as a slight. I mean it as an observation. I used to feel the way you do. but I’ve played so many, many games against IG now that I can tell you its combos, which have been well described here, are oppressive. running and trashing assets every turn is not interaction.
Regardless of whether you personally like playing as or against IG, the fact is that the game’s competitive scene is drastically less popular than it was last year, and some combination of IG and anarch dominance is the reason. I actually don’t mind playing against IG anymore, but the first 10 or so times you face it are brutally unfun slogs that you have no chance at. Only the most hardcore fans are willing to keep playing against IG long enough to become good at it - everyone else just stopped playing the game until the key cards gets dealt with in some way. FFG needs to deal with it soon, because the longer people leave the game, the harder it will be to get them back.
If you are talking about Mumbad City Hall being slightly too efficient (in combination with the Alliance suite), I’d be inclined to agree with you. That’s the kind of reason other cards have gone on the MWL.
Whinging about playing a particular archetype is something entirely different though. Museum of History is a key card in enabling that archetype to exist at all, and isn’t the same kind of hyperefficient that Mumbad City Hall is.
Putting the two cards on a “personal MWL” says two very different things. One may be trying to fix flaws in designed card efficiency, one is simply trying to get everyone else to play “Netrunner how I like it”.
There is only one point that needs to be taken away: many of our community members of our community do not enjoy playing against IG Biolock. If you were to tell me that I would play 2/4 games today at my weekly meetup against IG Bioethics, I would stay home.
Many people already are staying home instead of going to netrunner events. I don’t mean to frame this argument as promoting a noble (few? many? loudest group on stimhack forums?), but rather as people, who have been passionate about this game for a long time, now considering not playing netrunner to be more enjoyable than playing netrunner.
There is nothing more to it. There is no negotiation ‘IG is real/valid netrunner.’ I don’t care what anyone else thinks of IG, if you tell me that I have to play against it for 2-4 hours at my next netrunner event, then I will just stay home.
This comes right back to how often is it really played? I know people play it on jenteki, but seriously I don’t see it around here. I didn’t see it at store champs, and I saw one at regionals. That isn’t “3-4 hours of IG”.
I played twice against IG in one Regional and it took two hours. Experiences may vary.
Hey some people are whining about some cards again, business as usual.
The decision to reduce my visits on the stimhack forums due to abysmal growth of redundant, hugely biased threads was a good one I guess.
yet here you are. just whining about posts instead of cards.
Regionals getting half the attendance they did the year before is not ‘business as usual’. Not even close.
To me, NEH is just as bad, since a lot of my decks are not trying to win in 5 turns. Fast advance puts a different kinds of pressure, and if your deck isn’t teched against it then you probably lose. They can easily tutor for an Astro with fast track, and spending time to trash assets like SanSan can make you lose to tempo loss. The difference between NEH and IG is that you can tech against fast advance with cards like legwork that are good against any Corp. I almost never win with my IG on jinteki.net cause everyone is whizzard with Salsette Slums, Archives Interface and Hades Shard. The problem seems that there’s a hard counter to the best Corp decks, but not really the best runner deck,.
You mean “Dumblefork” style Whizzard decks? The best deck against a deck heavily invested in trashing the Corp’s board and leaning on Faust to get in/cutlerise any ICE ought in principle to be one that is damaging in order to punish Faust’s downside, punish trashing stuff (wait, that Hostile thingummy-bob might be really useful here!), and probably ought to be able to recur trashed cards fairly well.
Maybe we should start brainstorming some sort of deck that would fulfill those requirements? There must be something out there…

Not even cutlery, as there isn’t that much ice to destroy. I’ve been well and truly screwed over by just parasite and archives interface. It just so happens that dumblefork is uniquely overpowered, it’s good against pretty much everything. We just need Criminal and Shaper versions of “the one deck” or maybe just a way to use the other 200 cards from the lunar, genesis and spin cycle
I want to point out that Museum of History decks and a number of other decks have made the meta so uninteresting that more than half the “competitive player base” in KC stopped playing almost entirely leading up to our own Regional (myself included). We had a pathetic 29 players show up when we’ve had Friday night meetups a year ago with 29 players.
That only one player brought it is a sign of disgust over the deck more than a view on it’s power level. I think if any reasonable person takes a look at attendance numbers for local events, big tournaments, and general player sentiment it’s abundantly clear that something is seriously. fucked. up. I applaud the GLC for doing something about it. There are discussions in the KC meta to have a “soft ban” (a gentleman’s agreement) on certain cards we feel are the cause for a disastrous downturn in interest in Netrunner. At this point we’re not worried about tournaments because we can barely muster the interest in our weekly meet-ups.
Thanx.
I have noticed a number of Regionals where people don’t bring Museum. That’s fine. I didn’t want to count on ‘gentleman’s agreements’, and wanted to send a stronger message than attendance numbers are (although that goes deeper than Museum; see: little to no FFG support/marketing besides barely status quo moves, lukewarm Mumbad cycle esp. on Runner side, etc.).
This.
Low showing of the IG deck isn’t a sign that “it’s not that bad” or some kind of proof that people need to shut up and keep playing no matter how little fun they’re having, it’s a sign that people are sick of the stale, uninteresting play the deck encourages. So people bring decks they’d rather play and risk any losses from not being prepared against the possibility of facing a good player with the good deck.
The real question that drives the meta is: If you’re going to a competitive event, at what point do you expect more and more people to suck it up and play the disgusting deck despite themselves just because they want to win? Regionals? Nationals? Worlds? And at what point does that tip the scales into you teching against that deck or even playing it yourself?
Currently it seems like a significant number of people would rather just not play than try to figure out the answer to that question. If you don’t think that’s a problem, then you are in denial about the state of the game.
(For what it’s worth, our regional in Tacoma was down almost 50% from last year’s attendance. Also for what it’s worth, we saw one IG in the top 8 because people decided to play decks they like and know they are good at instead of paying the “correct” deck. Also also for what it’s worth, despite that, 3/8 of the top where still packing Whiz. So I’m proud of my meta mates for “being the change that they want to see in the meta”, but I definitely don’t want it like this, at the cost of not getting to see 40-50 more people enjoying my favorite game at the biggest event in the area of the year.)
