E. Kim Appreciation Thread

The Djinn is fine. It’s annoying that it takes up a memory slot on its own, though. It’s mostly there to make sure I see Medium and Nerve Agent without running multiples of them.

I may be going too heavy on the Parasite/Imp/Datasucker counts, too.

Knight might be a better choice than Crypsis. It gets past constellation ICE.

Having a Knight on a Checkpoint with 2 Bad pub is nice stuff.

So I tried out Hannibal’s deck listed above. Some thoughts:

  1. The ID ability is so solid. Nothing feels better than taking a key operation away from the corp. Even hitting econ like Hedge Fun is useful, and hitting cards core to the corp’s strategy is even better. I managed to hit all 3 Psychographics against a tagstorm NBN and he basically had no outs from that point.

  2. MU. The deck in its current form had some big MU problems. You basically can’t have a full breaker suite and all the cool utility viruses in play at the same time, so you really need to get Grimoire in play early. I want to try experimenting with Vigil/Memstrips as the solution, as Vigil allows you to run all 3 breakers plus either Sneakdoor or two utility viruses, and Memstrips allows you to flood out with a lot of smaller viruses.

  3. The influence spread is really solid. SMC in Anarch is really good, especially with Stimhack, and Sneakdoor was crucial in getting into HQ against anyone who really iced up. You could play Zu.13 instead of Gordian, but I hate Zu, so I’m sticking with Gordian as the decoder.

  4. Virus spread. Right now, I think the deck needs to lose 1x Imp, possibly even 2x. The only things you’re really going to be hitting with it are ice and assets/upgrades you can’t/don’t want to pay to trash. I also want to fit D4v1d in the deck, as big ice is currently a problem. I’m likely going to drop the Crypsis for it, as I didn’t use the Crypsis all day. If we are going to stick to 1 each of Medium and Nerve Agent, I also may slot in another Djinn, as they fetch those cards and help fix our MU problems. I didn’t see the Djinn at a relevant point throughout any of my games tonight, and I think that may have contributed to the MU problems.

I agree about imp. Imp does three things - it trashes ops, trashes ice, and trashes expensive things. Kim already does number one, Anarch have plenty of ways to do number two once the ice already installed, and for number three- why not an econ card?

Oh yeah, I forgot to talk about econ:

The econ in the deck is mostly ok. Kati Jones really shines here. I never really loaded her up too big, usually just to 6 or 9 credits. The deck is able to operate on a limited amount of money, which is always a boon.

That being said, one more econ card would be nice. Armitage, as boring as it is, was actually really solid for me, as I had to go tag-me against tagstorm NBN and they really didn’t want to trash it. Daily Casts was the same way. I think Day Job would be insane in this deck, to be honest, and I’m going to see if I can fit it in.

Here’s what I’ve been playing out of Ed:

Personally Touched

Edward Kim: Humanity’s Hammer (Order and Chaos)

Event (15)

Hardware (6)

Resource (7)

Icebreaker (6)

Program (12)

15 influence spent (max 15)
46 cards (min 45)
Cards up to Order and Chaos

Deck built on NetrunnerDB.

With the logic of wanting accesses (and lots of them), I decided to go for the second most classic Anarch breaker package, adding Personal Touches to handle the issues at hand (Lotus, Ichi, huge Weyland barriers). Loving the strength of econ, I think it really wants a second MemStrips for consistency but I’m still struggling to keep that Demo Run around, it’s too awesome when it happens.

The deck used to have a lot more new cards in it, but they slowly got swapped out for the old classics as the deck morphed (like, Cutlery for Parasite when I added the Strips). IHW + QT is pretty efficient at finding stuff, I usually just mulligan for decent money and wing it from there.

Man, it’s interesting to see how we arrived at similar places. It’s late here, but I should post my list to this thread soon.

Have you tried Day Job and 6 inf of toys over Lucky Find (maybe special order, maybe HQI or Legwork, maybe Clone Chip, maybe Sneakdoor)? Obviously Lucky Find is better, but I’m not sure it’s 2 influence better. Maybe it is 2 influence better. What are your thoughts?

Just a quick edit to say I love the deck and I will be giving it a spin when I play next. I <3 MS

I’ve almost completely decided (for myself / my style) that Day Job isn’t better than LF or Armitage. Armitage can get you 8 credits for 4 clicks like DJ, but it’s way more flexible. LF is 3c/click while DJ is 2c/click. I think once DJ shiny-factor expires more and more people will drop it.

LF is bonkers econ. But costs 2 inf for everyone. 2 inf is a lot. DJ is more potent than Armitage, but less flexible - you can’t get 8 credits for 4 clicks, you can get 5 with Armitage, then another 6 3 clicks later. They’re all equivalent at accelerating you ahead of clicking for credits.

Day Job is like playing LF then clicking for credits twice, playing Armitage and draining it is like playing Day Job and clicking for credits 3 times. The advantage Armitage has is you don’t have to do all those clicks in a row (and it’s cheap to drop if it’s clogging up your hand but you feel like you’ll have a use for it down the road).

I think Day Job will continue to have a place in decks. But I don’t think it’s all that great an econ option. I still think my question of @PeekaySK was valid.

Taking a turn to go from 2 to 10 creds is a powerful option.

Woo, questions! Let’s dive right in.

I feel like Lucky Find is the reason I can afford to play PTed Yog and Morning Star in the first place, really. It’s also a much better LA enabler than Day Job is, incidentally. In my eyes its added economic potency completely makes up for the “upgrades” I could do to my tricks with the spare influence. The biggest problem at this stage seems to be space, rather than influence

I’m considering Day Job, but in the Liberated Account slot, not the Lucky Find slot. Thing is, Day Job is better while setting up, LA is better later on. Can’t really decide, still need more games.

HQI seems completely wrong to me here - Nerve Agent is just better since it increases in potency and doesn’t effectively cost me MU (oh how I wish you had been in Core, MemStrips!). Sneakdoor would mean reworking the breaker suite, to which Morning Star is kinda central, all the while not providing all that much benefit - three Suckers are plenty Archives pressure anyway. Clone Chips feel mostly unnecessary - I don’t really need insta-parasites to get places, and once set up runs are very cheap. Also, all my spare CCs are in my other Anarch decks :stuck_out_tongue:

In my eyes, anyone who thinks Day Job belongs in the Armitage slot is nuts. The card is here for those deckbuilding moments where your list already has three Gambles, three Armitages, maybe three Laundries (if you swing that way) and want a Daily Casts/Liberated Account alternative that works while you’re expected to operate on low credits and possibly got your sorry ass Midseasoned. For that, the card rocks. Because this is how I’m using it, I haven’t really been able to fit in three copies anywhere, two seems to be just about optimal (otherwise I burn too many slots on econ).

Definitely - you just have to be prepared to hold it for a while before you use it, not unlike Queen’s Gambit. One other thing I really like about the card is the psychological pressure it puts on the corp if you always end your turn at 2 credits. It’s like this huge sign that says “If you spend too much time trying to set up some fishy business, I’ll just be 8 credits richer while handling it”. As anyone who’s ever played Anarch knows, that’s a scary proposition :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe it’s my years of playing Anarch pre-O&C, but as it is now I feel like most Anarch IDs would be completely fine with 10 less influence. Since we don’t actually have to import anything, all influence is leisure, more or less. Spending 6 on great econ seems like a steal at that point.

edit: one thing about the deck: after a couple more games it feels like I really don’t need the Demo Run - Ops get cleared intermittently, and blowing up ICE isn’t such a huge deal with the cheapness of running here. Is it worth keeping for those mega-uber double-run Medium digs? Or just say “screw it” and have it be the second MemStrips? What do you guys think?

I tried Day Jobs at one point. I made the comment above that the most painful thing to have happen is to spend a click to draw into a Day Job because you won’t be seeing that money for at least 6-7 clicks. Maybe it can come back in now that I’ve gotten rid of the Cutlery.

I’m also interested in the idea of changing up the memory. As you said, it’s hard to get the rig up and also get viruses into play. Grimoire felt like the most obvious choice for that but maybe just a 1-of Vigil and some Memstrips is the better solution. I do also agree on the sluggishness of Crypsis. I considered running a Knight in that slot but you are also right in hte need for some number of Davids.

I guess I’m not sure about the drop in Imps from 3 to 1. In my games, I had found myself using it liberally. Trashing ICE is not a bad thing to do with Imp as it improves your accesses. Did you run against any asset-heavy decks? I feel it’s very solid against SanSan and DBS and really acts like an econ card in those matchups.

So I can get on board with -1 Crypsis and -1 something else (I guess an Imp) for +2 David. -2 Grimoire for +1 Vigial + 1 Memstrips. Maybe cut the Daily Casts for Day Jobs? Thoughts?

Oh … since I have Deja Vus, I was considering fitting in some Injects. Maybe those would be a better choice than Day Jobs? (I know Inject isn’t econ, but it gets you some credits, digs you into your econ and other things)

This, absolutely this, it’s so hard to fit all the things. I think one of the things your deck is missing for the current metagame is knifed. Despite MS being a giant middle finger to all normal barriers those Green suits have really really big ugly things that you need to keep finding a lot of datasucker tokens for. Finding a new d4v1d every time you want to make a run isn’t realistic.

I still feel pretty shaky without a Special Order or two. I’ve played Anarch enough that when I’m corping I know that if I have 2 ICE, I can start pushing agendas and the anarch player needs to ‘pressure me elsewhere’ which is just a euphemism for letting me score.

I love Demo Run, but it’s the prototypical 46th card. If you need more MemStrips then ditch the Demo. Eddy already sees 3 new cards every turn with a single medium (unless you’ve already cleared out all the operations and agendas). I think it’s a very win more card in a non combo-wombo one turn kill deck.

Probably my Jimmy side showing, but when your playing morningstar(8cr) and yog(5cr) and they are an essential part of your rig. Adding 3 inject instead of quality time, and making room for 2-3 retrieval run could be pretty good. Frees up 3 influence as well. 2 of that for clone chip, 1 for UShard?

Sucks against ice on archives though :/. 2x knight could be ok to shore that up, but then maybe that is just a different deck.

I don’t know how I feel about mem strips or demo run. I like that mem strips can be played after you install stuff though. Surprised your finding it so useful(seen it in a couple of lists now)

You’ve just added 5-7 cards to the deck. Anarch are in the happy Criminal place of having too many toys and not enough deckslots. It’s glorious!

I like the Retrieval Run play, and I’ve done it before, but I feel this is neither the time nor the place for it. Thing is, MaxX does it better, and that’s popular now. When you’re ready for it, it’s reasonably easy to shut down (a barrier on Archives, possibly coupled with a Crisium Grid) or at least make completely unprofitable. Also, it wants a somewhat different rig - at the very least, you’d want to be using Femmes, which you can then use as your anti-Lotus Field tech (and thus have no need for Personal Touch). You’re using a lot of card slots, go about some things in a roundabout way (like, Injecting away your Parasites, which you’ll then have to Clone/Deja), and it often ends up not even being all that much cheaper.

So, to summarize: yeah, it’d be a different deck

Ever been in that situation where you’re transitioning from the early game to mid-game, and you desperately gotta find a Grimoire to avoid having to trash your early pressure virus (whether Sucker, NA or Medium) if you want to play that breaker you need? MemStrips is two extra copies of Grimoire in that situation, with the added benefit of giving you an insanely powerful late-game - with 9 MU, you can have a full rig (with a Morning Star no less), two Suckers, a Medium, a Nerve Agent, and still have a Parasite sitting around somewhere, eating away!

So yeah, I like the Strips - it’s like having two more Grimoires that aren’t dead later on. Awesome!

It did have Knifed in an earlier iteration, but I swapped them out for Parasites instead. Theory says that if I can afford to have 2 Suckers played, going through even a Curtain Wall isn’t all that horrible. D4V1Ds should ideally be saved for those nasty single-sub Destroyers (Grim, Nebula), or the worst part of Orion.

Definitely need more games of the Weyland match-up before I’m confident, though.

This is only true if the Anarch player doesn’t have enough money, though - you can do a lot of crazy shit in the space of 4 clicks, if you don’t need to get a bankroll first. And even if I let you have that remote, I can often trade that agenda for a wide-open RnD and 2-3 Medium counters. Are you going to use your next turn to score in that situation? You could very easily just lose right then and there…

For all intents and purposes worse than a PTed Morningstar, unfortunately.

I feel like arguing blackat and 2 Dysons.

BlacKat was a sick joke at 4 install. same goes for Creeper at 5.

“Hey let’s make them pay 5c for a Killer and then 2c per subroutine. It sometimes costs no MU so that makes up for it!”

“Don’t we generally give Sentries more subs than anything else?”

“Yeah, but… it takes up no MU sometimes!”

“You’re right; print it!”

sorry for derail

HI and thanks for sharing, i like this list !
Long time lurker first time poster here

I tried your build mostly against NEH fastrobiotics, and i found myself quite some times digging with full econ for breakers, throwing away Kati in the bin in the process.
I adjusted your list like this, -2 Kati -2 Lucky find -1 Demolition run / +2 Day Job +2 special order + 1 Memstrips.

I made this change after one game where i scored 5 points against NEH but lost so much tempo because the 4 copies of Mimic and Yog were at the bottom 10 cards of the deck :frowning:

Not so sure with the econ package now that i’ve modified it, played somes games against Blue Sun glacier that were quick, but i fear the lack of Kati can be troublesome against slow decks.
Also i’d like to fit imp there but i really don’t know if anything can be removed at all. The virus suite is pretty much needed, econ is needed, and even with 2 special orders i don’t wanna play only one of each of my breakers.

I’m totally in love with your list  The personal touch is a nice card there !

Edit : For the NEH matchup i really needed my sentry breaker because Architect was in front of R&D, so even walking through with 5 medium counters was not an option :frowning:
