How do we make Weyland good?

Advanced Planning )) 0 ((
// 0 \\ Agenda - Weyland
When you score an agenda with the same name as another already scored agenda, it is worth an additional agenda point.

Wouldn’t this trigger twice for 2 scored agendas? This making 3 Hostile worth 6 points? OP AF

Heck, your second advance planning is worth 1, and your third would be worth…3? 4? and if you score out all 3 advanced plannings, then your second hostile is worth 4.

This beat MaxX and Kate last night, but I’ve not had chance to test it properly yet.

Looks pretty sweet. I’ll give it a bash as well.

-1 Corporate War, -1 HT, -1 Swordsman, +1 Food, +1 Caduceus, +1 Restructure.

Why, for the love of Jackson why?

Card changes with no explanation makes me a sad panda.

Last night’s games I crushed an Eater with Swordsman and felt like a boss.

This is the real problem–even if you take advanceable ice as a usable schtick, it doesn’t scale with costs correctly.

Advancing an ice costs a click and a credit, and FFG seems to have valued a click at about 2 credits. (Of course, they’re parallel economies, so there’s a limit to this analysis.) So you’re doing 3 credits of work on an ice. For the Space Ice, that bears out by saving you 3 credits later; for all other ice, it doesn’t work. Take Ice Wall or Shadow–you do 3 credits of work to raise the STR by 1, when most ice price strength at 1credit/1STR.

I can understand why FFG was hesitant to give you 3 STR per advancement–you could run into ice with ridiculous strengths. But why not just say you can advance ICE up to X times, instead of making ice that doesn’t fit the costs? This might work if it was even 2 STR per advancement.

I’ve never ever had Swordsman do anything for me. Maybe it’s worthwhile at the moment, but it still seems just alright. I think Food +1 card slot is so much more valuable use of that 1 influence. Restructure and Caduceus might not be the best alternatives.

Sorry, I totally agree, I shouldn’t have posted without further explanation.

I like this but a more elegant solution templating wise would be having the bonus capped rather than restricting the number of advancements (like the space ice have the bonus capped at their cost).

Ice Wall as ‘Ice Wall can be advanced and has +3 strength for each of the first 3 advancement tokens on it’

Typically those running AI breakers used to have Mimic to sort out Swordsman and obviously Kate had one to protect Atman as well as deal with Architect etc.

Anarchs seem more worried about Turing on centrals these days and packing an answer for that.

My other version of the deck has Patch and STR 4 Swordsman (and Architect) can be really irritating to deal with.

I find Caduceus a waste of time personally, probably in the same way you do with Swordsman.

what do u take out to put patch instead?

No, it would only trigger once. So, Hostiles number 2 & 3 would be worth 2 points each. But it means you only have to score 2 5/3’s as well. Making weyland extremely threatening, but its positional, it must be scored before the “2nd+ copies” to have an affect.

I think a better wording for the agenda would be something like:

Advanced Planning (cost: 1 points: 0)

“Whenever you score an agenda with the same name as an agenda already in your scoring area, install advance planning on that agenda as a condition counter with the text: ‘this agenda is worth an additional point.’”

I think this would be pretty fun as a 1 advance 0 point agenda. It would be good archer fodder, but to be worth anything you need to score something else twice (or score two advanced plannings to get 1 point)

This is funny to me because I remember when everyone was bitching that there weren’t enough etr subs.

Which has also been the case, let’s not lie. But I think that’s because of the same overvaluing, and now Weyland is caught in this loop of “Ice not good enough, ETR subs are very good, more ice with that” when they’ve had enough of those for a long while.

See also Negotiator, where the sub they took out was the ETR, not the money gain or program trashing. Glad for the latter, could’ve survived losing the former.

One crucial fact is that the design team is two cycles ahead, so if their testers miss something (Faust being dominant, for example), they can’t pivot to quickly rebalance things. If Faust wasn’t so prevalent I think Weyland rush would be in a decent tier 1.5 spot, maybe T1 with a good pilot. Hopefully they realized a year ago that big green needed a boost, and that’s why they haven’t spoiled any decent Weyland cards for the Mumbad cycle (because they’re saving the good ones for launch day).

Based on Lukas’s, “yyyyyeah, I’ll have to talk to Damon about Weyland,” I doubt they’re going to see many boosts in Mumbad. Could be wrong though! Hope springs eternal and all that.

I dunno if someone said this yet, but maybe a remake of “I Got a Rock” would shine. Sac. 3 agenda points, do 15 meat damage if the runner has 2+ tags…seems alright.

Unfortunately, that still is better in NBN. NBN scores one Astro and then they can install-advance-token Breaking News into 15 meat damage.

Weyland’s easiest combo would need a Hostile + Atlas scored, and then you still need something like Midseasons to get the two tags.
