Leela is doing pretty well on OCTGN(53,75% vs the 53,89% winrate of Andy) according to Slaghund. All I’ve seen from her is Logos+Keyhole+Criminal goodness and I’m not that impressed. Maybe it’s because I don’t play the yellow cards on OCTGN…
@Cerberus , how are those lucky finds working out for you? It does eat 6 inf. and it’s a double
The Lucky Finds are excellent, with part of a rig and lots of credits, the corp often finds it hard to score in a remote.
I’m committed to testing Day Job as it is rare I Lucky Find and then run in one turn. That would free up 3 influence, but I’m not sure it will be better.
I think that slot needs to be event economy rather than something like Daily Casts which is too slow.
Card draw is actually what I feel the deck needs most. Earthrise Hotel will definitely find a place, but -1 LF for 2 Quality Time is likely worth testing as well.
I think Leela in general has a good match-up versus many decks. RP can be hard because of Nisei, but that can be said for many runners. personally I don’t run Keyhole; I prefer RDI. as someone else said, I think she could possibly be the second strongest Criminal, which is saying a lot.
I just won an 8 player tournament at the Compleat Strategist in NYC with @GreedyGuts’ “Street Figher II: Turbo” build. I came in 7th out of 16 at the Uncommons on Thursday. Tournmanet report coming sometime late tonight or tomorrow.
I really like Leela, but I have two concerns:
She’s good because people don’t know how to play against her. I’ve been playing exclusively Logos-based builds with her, and people mess up. They either directly mis-play because they forget about her ability or its implications, or they make larger strategic mistakes, like not double-ICEing centrals. “Advance, Advance, Advnace, score” is responded to with “I bounce your sole R&D ICE, fetch a card with Logos. My first click, I play that card: Indexing.” It’d pretty brutal.
But, if those power turns fail, she hurts. A lot. I’ve been putting it this way: I rarely have a less than four point turn with Leela, most are four or five, and I’ve gotten two seven point turns. But I’ve also gotten a lot of six point turns and then lost eventually. This might be because I was playing a pretty jank list at first, but SFII just hums along.
I think she’s useful even when people know what to do. Sure, surprise helps, but slowing down or otherwise hurting their game seems like it’s pretty useful. The power turns are nice (it’s why Indexing is in there), but I find repeated accesses with RDI or HQI, funded by Kati, tend to be more important. I feel like even when opponents put things together well, being able to bounce things early – or forcing them into rezzing and playing around your ability – are pretty decent benefits in and of themselves.
Whiiich is why I like the Interfaces so much in Leela. They make the occasional access more of a viable win strategy, and make hitting multiple agendas in one turn more likely. Being able to set up for power turns in advance seems well worth it – even at a higher set-up cost. An early RDI adds a lot of pressure over the course of the game, and increases the chances of Leela’s power triggering.
Anyway, yeah, glad it worked out for you. I’m vaguely considering trying out a Crescentus or two as a supplement to the Emergency Shutdowns for Glacier decks like Blue Sun, since I don’t require the 5th MU from Logos, buuut keeping it open to be a Faerie or to double up on Breach and Corroder seems worthwhile still, to me.
Anyone still playing with Leela? I’m still using her extensively but it feels like most people know to not fast advance against her now and so playing a mid-late game Leela deck is doesn’t work as well anymore. I feel like my games with her has only been getting worse and I’m not exactly sure where to bring her. It feels like I might as well play Andy or Gabe at this point.
Maybe it was obviously a bad idea in hindsight, but I did try out a stealth variant and it definitely doesn’t work well with her concept of power turns.
So even though your opponents know how to play against Leela, do you guys just build up then pick a particular moment to strike? I feel like Leela needs a lot more econ so she can strike without the opponent scoring first but still maintain pressure that the worse is still yet to come.
I’m still playing her and with great success. Over three tournaments her record is 12-2. One loss to NEH Astro Biotics which was a clean loss as he was too fast and chained Astros before I saw any multi access. The other loss was due to not seeing a code gate breaker all game and my opponent scored out behind an Enigma, Enigma remote!
I’ve found her ability useful in almost all games for opening up an attack. I’ve currently gone up to 3 R&DI as R&D pressure is key, but still need more testing on this.
She has great match ups against Cambridge PE due to her ability to bounce the advanced cards and Blue Sun as they are bouncing cards and this means when your ability hits their board position is hit badly. They also tend to have fewer ice layered which is great for those post scored agenda turns.
I think RP remains a bad match up due to lack of Parasites but I don’t think they fit in my current build and it needs to rely on multi access to make the expensive runs worthwhile.
I really like her and am considering her for Store Champs.
If I have an R&D or HQ threat in hand, I often attack the other servers, or apply remote pressure to allow that threat to be successful if I or the corp scores.
However there is no black and white, sometimes you get the feelings the corp had agendas in HQ, so that’s where you go.
Having rezzed early game ice isn’t bad, you know which breaker you need and bouncing their second ice which is often their mid/late game ice is often better.
Her ability gives you attacking windows, don’t try too hard to force her ability into a game winning thing, think of it as another criminal trick.
Thanks. I suppose I’ll go back to the drawing board for a bit. Passport/Alias/Breach doesn’t help on pressuring remotes so time to try a different set of breakers.
Well, not necessarily, attacking central servers creates remote pressure by way of not having enough credits to protect remotes. Something criminal is custom made for. Hell, maybe leela just needs vamp as well haha.
If you attack all centrals enough that it’s taxing to get through centrals with all the ice rezzed, then Leela’s ability and Logos doesn’t really have that much of an impact.
