Let's talk Whizzard

I agree with this (though for myself i’m still running 2x cc as well) one of the other knee-jerk reactions to the MWL is renewed interest in program trashing, and DV has tremendous play against this, as well as potentially doing a lot of other awesome things. it’s also an excellent additional safety net if you’re running inject, especially as it can grab 2x viruses. overall, a very versatile and powerful card that’s been overshadowed by CC for a long time.

Idk, I haven’t ever played a game with L4J Whizzard or my DJ Wooley where I would want a Deja Vu. Decks that try to trash your programs just get rolled over by Parasite, in my experience. An NBN build going all-in on Keegan+Data Raven might be a problem, but I’ve never encountered such a deck.

Really? No weak ice showing up consistently? Even program trashing with Batty and the like?

I’ve really liked fetching parasites to save CC for David or other things.

How is Turntable working post MWL? Still like it or switching to Grimoire? Not being able to insta-parasite without datasucker tokens weirds me out.

I’m still Turntable Hype Man #1. You just build up Sucker tokens the ‘hard’ way, which is fine. Instant Parasite is still very much alive and well.

Haven’t encountered any Batty yet. L4J can still almost always find its answers when it needs to.

I’ll give it a shot.

Any issue not being able to insta-parasite or sucker to bring Ichi and the like into range without having the NRE available?

Haven’t ended up playing versus Foodcoats since MWL. It’s the match-up I need to test the most, since I have cut both NRE. I anticipate having to save Atman for 4 against Foodcoats without NRE, which isn’t terrible since it gets you through Assassin/TB/Ichi 2 with a Sucker token in a pinch. I think Turing is going to be problematic late-game without the ability to NRE+Ice Carver through it with Yog.

These are pretty good changes. Whizzard needs a bit more late-game to fill the shoes of the other clone chip. Inject was/is excellent. I’ve wanted to fit in the second Kati, too. Getting her late is often too late to matter.

I’m going to test a version with 1 clone, 2 parasite, and 2 NRE whilst keeping the Carver. In that version, Grimoire becomes Turntable and one Inject becomes one Deja (or two become two, not sure). The Wooley version has a stronger late game than the L4J.

yes yes yes - turntable hits NBN hard and ain’t too shabby vs. common agendas like atlas and nisei. Even in HB, you can often trade to improve your points differential, or at the very least force the corp to hold agendas and waste windows trying to stop you from “trading up.”

re: Deja Vu, I agree that it’s by no means a must-include- just that it’s a strong flex slot in a deck that (depending on your preferences) may need to be dropping some clone chips.

What kind of card draw packages are people happy with post-MWL? I see @tmoiynmwg’s world’s list with

  • 3 inject
  • 3 IHW
  • 3 Peddler
  • 2 Earthrise

but I’ve had trouble finding that many slots, I’m looking more like the last list that @nungunz posted with 3x of Earthrise, IHW, & Peddler. I tried Inject a bit but it feels much worse without all the clone chips lying around. It’s too easy to trash a vital breaker then never draw into recursion or a backup copy.

How does the deck perform without Net-Ready Eyes? I thought that with the NAPD MWL the Whizzard would lose his clone chips in favour of some Deja Vu instead of his eyes, but I never played the deck so mine is purely an impression. Can somebody more experienced show me why 2 clone chips >> 2 NRE in here (barring insta-parssite)?

Seriously guys. Try playing Pancakes and Faust. They are incredible cards and there’s no reason why Noise is the only Anarch that can exploit them.

If you can free up 7 to 9 card slots, let me know (5 or 6 for Wyldecakes and 2 to 3 for Faust).

I can pull 3 earthrise, 1 Nerve Agent, 1 Deja, 1 Mimic, and 1 corroder.

But that makes me really uncomfortable…

Oh my god, it’s been working wonders. Ice Carver still helps a ton and the inclusion of Imp has been great on the FA and Scorch match up.

I am also now sold 100% Turntable. Has been amazing against FA and glaciers that score a Food or Future Perfect.

The one memory loss doesn’t hurt too bad and you can deal without getting the free virus token.

The only real problematic matchup I’ve been having is against SYNC due to the Ravens + QPM.

Could you share a list? And, if you don’t mind my asking, what do you use clone chips for, other that for parasite? Is It just for recycling d4v1d and imp?

in a world without Lotus Field, Ice carver replaces NRE just fine. Keep the clone chips…

Totally. Outside of Noise it’s the only console right now.

My list remains the same since I posted right after the MWL announcement. I don’t miss NRE at all and as far as I’m concerned this deck was unaffected. Win rate remains incredibly high; only difficult match-up that you will encounter with any regularity is SYNC Biotics. NEH Fastro is very winnable, but it’s almost always by the skin of your teeth–very exhilarating. The one thing I am a bit worried about is the possible popularity of BS Glacier, which I think is difficult for this list without an early Datasucker. I haven’t played many games with any iteration of L4J against BS Glacier.

Personally, I think NRE was almost exclusively for the Foodcoats match-up, and even then, you didn’t need it; it just made things much easier. My hypothesis after MWL was announced was that it would be very possible to win without NRE with tight play. So far that has been my experience. NRE is definitely very strong with Atman, but personally I prefer the utility of 2 Clone Chip. Instant Parasite remains a very strong tool, especially in match-ups where your Parasites function as AI breakers to get through 0 strength ICE.

@moistloaf’s list has maybe 2 cards different from my deck.

Mine is currently -1 Kati, -1 Plascrete, +1 Nerve Agent, +1 Deja Vu.

Removing plascrete was a meta choice and Nerve Agent was to pressure HQ a bit more…but it’s been lackluster so I’d probably go for the 2nd Kati or Plascrete

CC depends on the game. I’ve used it on Atman, D4v1d, Medium, Parasite.

Never used it on Imp.

Our lists are close, I’ve got 2 inject and 2 grimoire, 1 less kati and no plascrete. I think the injects help against NBN, more speed. Inject is hard to cut IMO, but plascrete seems fairly important if you can’t get your imp soon enough to do some damage on combos. I wonder if adding a wanton or two could help…but…but…the slots.
