I don’t feel the game has really been that way since core/genesis (non accessible super server). Runners have far more tools at their disposal than corps do. Historically the meta has mostly been FA with a sprinkling of Glacier every now and then. We’ve seen it with RP, Foodcoats and now Palana but FA has been prevalent since its inception. Considering the current pro runner meta, corps should have tools that CAN directly counteract all the powerful tools the runner gets.
Is the meta really pro runner? I keep hearing posters on this board saying it, but I don’t see data to support this claim.
There will be a solution to preventing the trash at the end of the run, allowing Caprice to at least end one run. They can trash her afterwards, of course, and run again.
sure but its a 2 splash card. That pretty rough. CVS was influence free.
I don’t think any of the tournament-data-aggregate sites are really tracking it. Obviously, players have to win with both Corp and Runner lists, or else they wouldn’t be able to garner enough prestige points to advance to the top brackets, so we can’t just look at winning decks and say “yeah, Runners are winning.” We’d have to have more of the overall picture, like how many rounds were Runner splits vs. Corp splits. If there are a bunch more Runner splits than Corp splits at several events, that starts to tell us something, I think.
Feels pretty pro runner with the exception that with the right hate tech corps can have game against at least one runner archetype. I asked in the jinteki.net thread if they’d made any progress tracking stats but didn’t get a response. If I can find the time I might add that if its not already there.
But then we’d probably have to repeat the whole “do stats mean anything” argument from 2013-4 (protip: yes). Would be pretty cool if any of the tournament software in wide use exported that data into an aggregator somewhere.
I think it would be amazing to see what the breakdown of runner wins and corp wins were for tournaments. Even better would be a breakdown of the number of runner/corp splits in swiss rounds and the win/loss ratios for corps and runners in the final rounds.
I don’t think an instant speed solution is needed for PolOp. Part of the reason one is needed for Clot is because Clot itself can be installed at instant speed, and the window for stopping FA is during the corps turn. To stop Glacier, the window is usually on the runner’s turn*.
There’s already an influence-free neutral card that counters PolOp, Snatch and Grab. If they have a PolOp on the table, clear it. If they’re not playing any connections, it’s just as dead as a CVS vs. a virus-free deck.
If your deck’s idea of a scoring window is one where the runner can spend one click preparing, run HQ, install PolOp, and run your scoring server, your glacier is not taxing enough.
*As far as I know, the only two ways of installing a resource during the Corp’s turn are DaVinci and Artist Colony. Neither can install PolOp (disregarding the odd An Offer You Can’t Refuse HQ run) because of the HQ requirement. Councilman is another story.
Street Peddler (unreliably, but still, and doesn’t detract from your point).
Hayley can run HQ then run the remote and artist colony out a PolOp or two if needed. However, I agree, defend HQ, use crisium, and have extra defenses. It’s a single card that can be countered by other generally useful single cards. It’s going to be fine. And hopefully bring a little more edge to criminals.
There’s also going to be Voter Intimidation in Jinteki this cycle, which lets you Psi and trash ANY resource. Just need to turn it on by having the Runner score something, which happens in almost any game
If it doesn’t happen you’re probably fine.
Unless DLR…
How bad is the trash cost of 1 for Advanced Assembly Lines? It weakens your R&D, but other than that it’s at least a Modded for Ice in ETF, and it can squeeze out an extra credit if it’s in a server with BGG.
Is the soft R&D not worth it when ETF already has four great econ cards? (BGG, Hedge, Sexbots.) Or does Assembly Lines replace Eve, because Eve’s not worth it in a Whizzard-heavy meta?
I think AAL is only worth playing when you have Mumba Temple, which HB does not ATM. Even then, it’s barely worth it. I wish it installed the card ignoring all install costs, but sadly, it doesn’t, so it’s a little under the power curve.
3 credits and your click back is in no way under the curve…that’s Hedge Fund/Career Fair territory.
well, 2 credits and the install.
BUT… it triggers ETF’s ability on the install itself and can trigger on the runner’s turn. if they run that server, you can still essentially click for 2 credits and force the runner through your remote
i don’t know if i’d replace Eve though. Eve is pretty strong, even in a Whizzard meta
That’s also a one time Adonis/BBG trigger. I put Adonis in my deck because it does that effect four times for one slot, AAL is just not efficient enough.
Your comparison to Career Fair can be largely invalidated because of the asymmetrical nature of the game, and Hedge Fund can’t be trashed for one credit. I stand by my claim that AAL isn’t good enough. I like the idea behind the design, but the execution is lackluster. It really didn’t need the “can’t be used during a run” text, it would be fine without it.
I think that was to prevent shenanigans like installing Snare! after the Runner commits to access.
Or god forbid, make edge of world good
You talk about the asymmetrical nature of the game, but aren’t credits even more important to the corp than the runner? Any corp deck would love to run six hedge funds.
AAL vs bots is not a straight comparison because AAL doesn’t need to be protected by ICE nor combined with any other card like BBG. If you’re happy with those two “additional costs” for the bots then of course they are better.
I’m not sure how to evaluate the r&d density issue. I guess it depends on what deck you’re playing against. If you’re not expecting multiple r&d runs in one turn, then it only affects agenda flood in HQ, which a faster deck doesn’t mind as much. I’ve run AAL in the Foundry even though it’s one credit less because having the money asap is that important to the deck.
