[Noise] Welcome (back) to the Church

Hmm. I love savoir fair but I could never make the draw/economy /run support it. Too many moving parts. I find astroscripter to be much easier.

Mad props. I love the concept of Savoir-faire but have yet to see it shine. 3 inf is a high price, though maybe after the O&C box anarchs will finally have some influence to throw around :D.

So how are people finding this versus Blue Sun?

Some don’t, but a lot of Blue Sun decks run punishing ice - Data Pike, Caduceus, etc. making any attempt at facechecking pretty fruitless if not counterproductive . It seems the best way to play is get a Crypsis online with a ton of money, ideally a D4v1d (or access to one) and a ton of money, and hope you can snipe their agendas without being scorched - while keeping on eye on central access after they commit some money (temporarily) to scoring.

Is this right?

I’ve found the Blue Sun matchup pretty awkward, but I run 2x Knight and then 1x each of Crypsis, Mimic, and D4v1d. I think I’m going to mostly play other runners until O&C.

I did finally get the PE monkey off my back. I just had to discard my usual Noise strategy of drawing and installing with wild abandon. Then it was fine.

I can’t wait to play Noise with Order and Chaos cards–so many good viruses!

I didn’t lose to blue sun at worlds. Thank you d4v1d and scavenge…

I feel like that shores up the Blue Sun matchup at the expense of the RP matchup. But when O&C comes out, we’ll be able to run something like 3x Clone Chip, 3x Scavenge, 3x Cache as our influence, enabling us to handle both BS and RP.

I don’t think Scavenger is quite as good as Aesop. It might be a good way of not running three of him.

Scavenge isn’t for replacing Aesop, it’s much needed additional recursion once we (hopefully) aren’t obligated to run 3x Pawnshop when O&C drops. But if neutral and Anarch econ doesn’t suffice, you could do 2 each of the recursion pieces and keep 2x Pawnshop.

He meant Scavenge, not scavenger.

He meant both. The Shaper event Scavenge is great in Noise, and the new hardware Scavenger is supposedly going to allow Noise to save influence on Aesop’s. I’m sure this will be functional, but I am sooo addicted to Pawnshop. Get it down early, and you essentially play an Easy Mark before each turn. If it doesn’t show up in the first 15 cards, you will likely lose. Midseasons decks are also a huge problem for Noiseshop as Imping Agendas is your only real counter strategy.

So how will Noise look once O&C is out? 3 Scavenge and 3 Scavengers to replace Aesop’s? Earthrise Hotel instead of Wyldeside and Steelskin instead of Plascrete? (I imagine a lot of Anarch decks will experiement with no plascretes).

My Noise decks were tight already, haven’t had room for Sure Gamble for a while. With the changes above, I’m already -3 cards and I haven’t accounted for the lost credits from Aesop’s yet. I will have to cut into my 6 card breaker solution (2 D4vid, 1 Mimic, 2 Crypsis, 1 Darwin), cut my one glorious Stimhack, cut my 2 Scrubbed (a card I feel is sometimes necessary and often useful) and maybe trim down to 2 Datasuckers.

I don’t know what to do. Aesop’s is a lot of econ in 3 cards…

Ressurecting this topic to get some discussion on current builds now that O&C is legal.

Personally I think that Noise is actually in a pretty good spot right now! At least in my meta I see less NEH and more controlling builds against which Noise does really well. My current list (that is more about milling than running):

Noise: Hacker Extraordinaire (Core Set)

Event (10)
3x Déjà Vu (Core Set)
3x I’ve Had Worse (Order and Chaos)
1x Quality Time (Humanity’s Shadow) •
3x Sure Gamble (Core Set)

Hardware (4)
2x Clone Chip (Creation and Control) ••••
2x Grimoire (Core Set)

Resource (10)
2x Aesop’s Pawnshop (Core Set) ••••
2x Daily Casts (Creation and Control)
3x Earthrise Hotel (The Source)
1x Hades Shard (First Contact) •
2x Rachel Beckman (First Contact) ••

Icebreaker (4)
1x Corroder (Core Set)
2x Crypsis (Core Set)
1x Mimic (Core Set)

Program (17)
3x Cache (The Spaces Between) •••
3x Datasucker (Core Set)
2x Gravedigger (Order and Chaos)
2x Imp (What Lies Ahead)
2x Medium (Core Set)
3x Parasite (Core Set)
2x Scheherazade (Second Thoughts)
15 influence spent (max 15)
45 cards (min 45)
Cards up to Order and Chaos

Some comments regrding card choices:
I much prefer Scheherazade over Cyberfeeder
I’ve gone away from Inject since I need to draw into my programs and I’ve Had Worse sees almost as many cards as Inject and get them to hand. Quality Time replaced the last Inject when I had a spare influence.
Rachel beckman makes some match-ups alot easier (especially RP) but I’ve found myself wanting to see one copy fairly early against any non-NBN corp.
Gravedigger has done a fair amount of work, but if I ever ran a list without Grimoire I would cut it.
For me progenitor/Hivemind has not worked out great, it takes more deckslots and have been a noticable cut in economy since you run more non-pawnable viruses and I get fewer mills in each game.

From my findings: I’ve Had Worse is great, Chopbot is underwhelming. My Noise build runs 3 Inject, but they’ll probably get swapped for something if NEH goes away. I Inject is one of the weakest cards from the pre O&C Noise builds, but also the best of a bad bunch of options: you need the card draw against faster decks that demand answers.

My problem with Inject is that it’s almost always good as your first drawspell when you are looking for more carddraw, Aesops etc. When you don’t get a good start it’s often good as your second drawspell as well. But when you get past the initial hurdle, you almost always want to draw into additional viruses and then it’s not great.
That said I don’t think 3x Earthrise and 3x I’ve Had Worse is enough carddraw and you need some additional cards to ensure you get enough carddraw early and influence is scarce.

Inject is the best dig for Aesops. And Aesops is so crucial that it’s imperative to get it.

I also swear by 3x Clone Chip so I don’t mind occasionally trashing a D4v1d or Mimic (the only sad face). All the viruses that get trashed with Inject I just see as “better there than in the deck”. With 3 Deja-Vus and all the duplication of the viruses, I really don’t mind them being in the trash.

Just keep Injecting for the aesops, hotels, clone chips, econ, grimoire, cyberfeeder…

So that’s why you needed IHW for tomorrow’s SC. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think IHW / earthrise has made noise decks a lot stronger, since you can dispense with Wyldside and even Diesel / QT. Below is a sort of hybrid noise deck that gets a fair amount of mill. It hasn’t taken down a store championship or anything, but has performed very well in a difficult meta. It’s annoying for most corps, NEH included.

Noise: Hacker Extraordinaire

Event (12)
3x Dirty Laundry
3x I’ve Had Worse
3x Lucky Find ••••• •
3x Sure Gamble

Hardware (2)
2x Grimoire

Resource (8)
3x Daily Casts
3x Earthrise Hotel
1x Hades Shard •
1x Utopia Shard •

Icebreaker (6)
2x Corroder
2x Mimic
2x ZU.13 Key Master ••••

Program (17)
3x Cache •••
3x Datasucker
3x Imp
3x Lamprey
2x Medium
3x Parasite

15 influence spent (max 15)
45 cards (min 45)
Cards up to Order and Chaos

Deck built on http://netrunnerdb.com.

As you can see, I’ve dispensed with Aesop’s and clone chip. My biggest problems with all my previous noise decks were: losing if I can’t get aesop’s early so just drawing like mad and having to discard and the mill being too slow against rush decks like NEH. So I decided a hybrid was a better approach and using all that influence for lucky find, which works really well in this deck.

Against fast decks with crappy ice you get a huge amount of pressure to slow them down. Imp of course works well for punishing assets like sansan. With slower decks like blue sun, your mill can really wear them down and hopefully you build up enough pressure to keep them off balance.

some more thoughts on card choice:
Utopia shard is for added scorch protection and can be really good against people who look like they’re setting up to score.

Lamprey is really underrated. I treat this as a deck that focuses on hitting remotes / HQ as I mill until I spot a turn where I can drop medium and just hammer R&D.

The main weakness of this deck is when you’re facing a fast deck or even RP and you just can’t find your mimic. Architect can really hurt since you’re always trashing good stuff. I might try to find a way to get up to 3 mimics or something or somehow still splash a QT in case I need to dig for it.

Is Cache still worth running without Aesop’s?

I think so. It mills a card and with grimoire gives you three credits for a click. That’s a pretty good return. Even two credits and a mill for a click isn’t bad.

I have two main thoughts about noise:

  1. Aesop’s is a crutch that can be awesome but makes noise inconsistent.
  2. The death by mill is a crutch that can be awesome but makes noise inconsistent.

So in a sense, I think the key is creating as much of a reg-ass Noise as possible that uses the nice side-effect of milling to add enormous pressure from the corp. I think the key is 2-3 points per games from mills and 4-5 from stealing but the entire time making the corp feeling like their house is on fire.
