That’s actually my current runner project, and he could cause this deck some serious issues. Jackson is usually enough to save me from Imps, but a dedicated Kim op-trashing deck would generally wreck my day pretty bad if I let them access too much.
I was tinkering with the ice a bit earlier and I’m going to try replacing the Ice Walls with a Changeling and a Hive. I’m also considering dropping the ice count to 15 and replacing the single Bandwidth with a lone Closed Accounts.
Thanks for taking interest in it! I’m not too worried about the skeptics due to how much success I’ve had lately, and the people who actually put a decent amount of practice in appear to have found some themselves. I’m not going to claim my local meta is any kind of big deal, but I haven’t just been stomping a bunch of scrubs, either. Or maybe I’m just good at getting into the head of my opponent, which might not work if someone ignores me entirely and just maths the entire time.
And hey, if nobody takes this deck very seriously, it should just make beating them that much easier!
Hive sounds like a good one. Considering the most you’re going to score are 1 pointers, it’ll help keep a tax if the runner wants to up. I also slotted an Archive interface just to get rid of key trashed stuff. Right now Cyberdex is a prime target, but key operations are also something.
I was also looking at how Leverage would help, but unless it was paired with something like Tallie it doesn’t protect against kill damage.
i like midseason in argus because one of the problems with midseason is a runner who scores so quickly that they are on match point before you can midseason. argus usually keeps the runner to one agenda stolen per turn and this can mean a bigger midseason window.
I’m always extremely tempted to run Posted Bounty over Hostile Takeover. Cranks up the tax by not giving a bad pub, and actually threatens people who just let Argus score behind a remote and hammer centrals instead.
Posted Bounty against an early game stealth deck while they are setting up, or some big dig Anarch Hivemind stuff really, really gets wrecked by Posted Bounty into Scorched.
I too like Midseason in Argus because it slows the runner down prior to landing the midseason. It also usually will tax the runner 2 credits to remove the tag, which makes midseasons easier to land.
If midseasons wasn’t 4 bloody influence, it would easily find a home here.
That’s why I run both! I’ve found that with the pair of Atlas, you really only need a single Posted Bounty in the deck.
How much practice are you able to do before then? If the answer isn’t “a lot,” I would suggest playing a different Argus build. Unless you’ve played a lot of Weyland before, then you might be okay.
Well, if you’re going this route, SEA Source is only 2 influence. I believe part of the reason this deck is so effective is because runners are generally expecting the tag to come from an operation on the corp’s turn.
I’ve also added a single Ghost Branch lately, and it’s been pretty solid. Bandwidth was a disappointment, but if Crisium Grid makes it back in here I’ll revisit that one.
I actually found my past running Cambridge PE transferred surprisingly well, though I’ve been playing AGAINST Weyland forever, so I’ve learned a few things there, maybe.
Right, but that doesn’t enable traffic accident… which is like half the reason to play midseasons at all in Weyland (the other half being DRT).
Also Sea Source vs Midseasons is a pretty huge trade off after you factor in the 2 cred tax post agenda steal. In Midseasons that is two extra tags if they take a tag and ditch it. In SEA Source, that is two less credits you have to spend to land one tag, with the nice flexibility of being able to do it on any successful run rather than an agenda being stolen.
Traffic Accident is a pretty reliable way to either eat through plascretes or find copies of I’ve Had Worse before you go all in on Scorched. It also lets you threaten a runner from 0 Credits and punish siphon tag floaters.
Its kind of sad that butcher shop does meat damage better than Weyland can right now. Maybe if Weyland gets some quality ICE in this cycle or a better agenda to slot in, it will be a viable archetype.
This is all true, but if you’re going all-in on Midseason, you pretty much need all three. If you’re playing Jackson, you’re going to be stuck relying on Weyland ice with no Snare to keep them honest. Maybe Titan would be a better ID for Midseason? It makes more money for traces, too.
Someone above mentioned how this deck is weak against good Anarchs. A particular problem to me seems to be anyone playing Eater-Keyhole. The relatively high agenda count (12) makes Keyhole more likely to succeed, and rob you of the critical 1-pointers your deck relies on for flatlining and economy. Yes, yes, I realize Jackson is a card that exists, but keyhole can win against any other deck with Jackson, so I don’t see why that would stop it here.
Keyhole/Eater isn’t too popular anymore in my area, but it’s pretty easy to tech in a couple Crisium Grids if you’re expecting to see it. Even if you don’t, a pair of Data Ravens on R&D can work in an emergency.
If you do go this route, try replacing the Ghost Branch with Bandwidth.
You talked above about going down to 1x Invasion, and you mentioned Ghost Branch a couple times now. I’m curious what the list you’re running right now looks like. Would you mind sharing? I know we’re right in the middle of regionals atm and you might not want to, but I’m curious what other changes you made.
I’m actually figuring that out right now for the Wisconsin regional tomorrow. I’ve basically been juggling the last couple ice and asset/upgrade slots. I fluctuate between a Taurus/Bandwidth/Crisium Grid kit and a Shattered Remains/Ghost Branch kit. I’ve also been going back and forth between a 3rd Data Raven and a 2nd Snare.
It’s not my usual scene, though, so I don’t know what’s popular there. It’ll probably be a last-second coin flip tomorrow exactly how I tech up. If history is any indication, I’ll choose wrong and lose at least one game because of it. I’ll post the exact list I run after I get back, along with some results.
Any updates on how this deck went at Wisconsin regionals? I’m thinking of taking something like this to another regional and I’d like to know how it fares in a really competitive environment.
I’ve already built a deck somewhat like this but with more ETR ice and Capital Investors and it’s worked quite well in semi-casual play. Would you make any changes with cards out of the new datapacks?
I think this deck went 3-2 at the Wassau regional. I also went 0-5 with prepaid Kate. I learned a valuable lesson that day about waking up at 5:30 and driving 3 hours to play Netrunner without eating breakfast or remembering my medication.
Ask me again after Saturday. I might take this to FFG’s regional.
As far as newer cards go, I will probably be replacing the Enigmas with Meru Matis. Yog seems to be a popular choice again, and more barriers are always nice to have against Lady. I really want to play around with Contract Killer, but I doubt that will be out in time for any Regionals. Corporate Town could be a fun use of Hostile Takeovers, but then you’d probably want to swap out the Archers for something else.
I actually like the idea of getting rid of the Checkpoint but keeping the Enigmas. I find that people tend to face check against Weyland before you score out any agendas (i.e. before you can rez Archer). Hitting an Enigma is mildly punishing but more importantly it forces a gear-check. Last night I actually scored two 3-pointers (in two games) on the 3rd turn behind an Enigma. Once they drop their Yog you can just override the Enigma and let them enjoy their useless 5-cost breaker.
Capital Investors is another card that I rate reasonably highly in a deck like this. When rezed, it basically forces the runner to run it in the same way Melange does. Unlike Melange, you have the flexibility of taking 4 credits and installing something. Given how many 3 advance 1 pointers in this deck, getting 4 credits and then installing an agenda in your scoring remote is a solid play.
Invasion of Privacy is a bit borderline for me. It wrecks certain decks at the right time, but other times it’s just a dead card. I would go down to 1x and spend that influence on more Snare!s or Data Ravens.
If the Enigmas are working for you, keep rocking them! I’d just worry about NRE/Datasucker and Yog, because it also breaks Rainbow for free. Maybe add a Lotus Field with that third influence from cutting the second Invasion?
I cut down to a single Invasion after the dust from O&C settled a bit. You still need at least the one copy though, because otherwise you get shut down pretty hard by IHW. It’s also really fun to throw down an Invasion right after a Levy. I’d recommend a third Data Raven before a second Snare!
I’ve been wanting to try out the shark tank for a while now, but I’m not sure what to cut to fit it in. I had enough trouble fitting Crisium Grids in here. The other option is to add the 3rd Atlas and another ice and take it up to 54 cards, which would give me three more flex slots to play with.
I would also recommend adding Shattered Remains to deal with hardware if you expect to see a lot of Plascretes. Taurus is a great tax, but it’s not always super reliable for killing Plascretes. It usually ends up taking out a Desperado or PrePaid instead.
