I’m not really reading the whole thing, what about the ID’s? Will we be losing the IDs not in the deluxes?
I don’t think we’re going to see any further non-1-per-deck 3/2s, unless they want to reprint the spin-cycle ones :).
With the current language we lose ids.
Losing ID’s would be really lame. Losing cards as vital to certain Corp’s identities, like Fetal AI, would also be lame. I hope FFG does the right thing and reprints the right cards.
Either way, it’s in three years and four cycles, plus at least one more deluxe box. If they don’t reprint stuff there’ll still be about twice as many cards as there are now to fill the gaps. While I think they’re reprint things, I wouldn’t count on them doing it immediately. Letting some cards lie fallow for a bit before they bust out the reprints isn’t a terrible idea.
“Oooooooh shiiiiiiit RP is back? I remember this ID!”
They could just put beloved IDs in deluxe boxes for that faction. So the next Jinteki deluxe box could contain RP to ensure it stays in the game permanently.
Edit: And, of course, they could reprint Andromeda in the next Criminal box…
This rotation makes no sense, it helps no one. It doesn’t help new people because they still need to buy 5 years worth of datapacks and every big box. It doesn’t help older players because it doesn’t support older sets, every 6 months you have a mountain of cardboard that’s defunct, and flat out removes IDs from the game. This is a lose-lose situation for the community, it doesn’t help newbies and a lack of legacy format support alienates older players. Plus how does this help the devs, I mean seriously. They will have to constantly retread old ground just to keep the game viable, constant creation of replacement cards and IDs just to keep play styles viable. I mean seems kind of stupid to have to constantly make things like a replacement card for plascreate carapace every other cycle just so their will always be some form of meat damage available. Having to constantly make replacement cards for silencer/lock pick/dyson fractal generator every few cycles just so stealth credits are playable.Seems really dumb on the part of the designers.
It gives them flexibility to retread ground in the newer packs. So instead of having the Dyson/Silencer/Lockpick trio they might revisit stealth and make it a mainly-crim thing, or they might do meat-damage prevention via a program or virtual resource (I’ve mentioned Emergency Self-Construct before). It means the question of “why did they print X when we already have Y?” has an answer that doesn’t involve eating into niche protection.
Also while there’s no legacy format now, what will the game look like after 4 or 6 cycles have rotated out? If the legacy cardpool isn’t totally degenerate (and can’t be salvaged by banning/restriction) by then and the game has grown, there’ll actually be a compelling case for it. There is no point FFG committing to anything yet.
If I was telling a newbie to get into the game now, I can confidently tell them to buy recent data packs and not worry about older stuff. If their enjoyment continues to grow, they can get their favourite factions’ deluxe boxes and they’ll eventually have the same cards as everyone else, because the packs they missed will rotate out.
I’m more concerned about what the new versions of the core set or deluxe boxes will look like.
So your perfectly fine with them charging you money to replace plascreate with a card that will still fill your deck slot for meat damage protection. Seems dumb. Seriously are we going to have new cycles come out and people say “ahh so there is the card “wrong address” which prevents meat damage, let me just pull my 2 plascreate out and replace them with 2 “wrong address” and I’ll be good to go.”
Like I said seems dumb to me. I’m not wasting my money on datapacks that become obselete and I don’t think the designers should waste their time on the same old song and dance over and over.
The amount of completely unfounded assumptions you’re considering axiomatic fact is just blowing my mind.
So why did they bother printing Plascrete? We already had crash space.
Day Job? Nah, we got Lucky Find and Sure Gamble.
Midseasons? It’s just a big SEA-Source, really.
NACH? We got Decoy, though.
If they make a card that is different from Plascrete (actually good to play, for instance) then that’d be wonderful. If not, they’ll likely reprint plascrete and the old copies’ll be fine.
I very much doubt they’ll do “same card with a different name” shit when they’ve already said they’ll reprint stuff. This is to let old stuff go so that new stuff can be made. Different versions of cards that didn’t work that aren’t just strict upgrades, for example.
I’ll be annoyed if they reprint Plascrete every Nth cycle, but then I’d just use my copy from What Lies Ahead, so whatever. But if they made it a Program like ESC, then that has implications beyond a straight swap because it’s now vulnerable to AggSec and Destroyer ICE instead of Shattered Remains and Taurus. The interactions with other cards like SMC, Trade-in, Replicator and The Supplier all change. Making it a one-for-one swap would be silly and I think it’s reasonable to expect FFG will do better than that. What if it was a Current? That’s an entirely different set of implications again.

Typing on my phone, it autocorrects to your instead of you’re for some reason.
Problem?
Don’t be a grammar Nazi. You knew perfectly well what he meant…
with only one official format, FFG WCW takes four days.
the logistics of introducing additional legacy tournaments on top of that seems like something they simply can’t do while offering a side event space (also they will probably run the legacy tournaments in the side event space)
If the designers will do their job well by 2017 we won’ t miss the cards that rotate out too much. Besides I really hope that one day the cycles will rotate back in. Reprinting a whole cycle would make veteran players happy as they could use the cards they already have and would help to uniform the card pool of old and new players.
Seems strange they didn’t mention rotating deluxe boxes or even new cores. Eventually there will be so many deluxe expansions they will need to start rotating those out also. I’d also love to see a new Core at some point.
Oh, and I’m not quitting Netrunner over this.
RP is going to be ridiculous forever
