[Updated] I for one welcome our new Whizzard Overlord

Fair enough; it was just surprising to me that on the day I preferred seeing my atman to seeing NRE. I’m considering dropping the NRE for another atman and a memstrips, and possibly swapping the third sucker for a third career fair with the extra influence.

Play progenitor before you play memstrips. It gives you the extra memory you need for 0 money and it’s great with both Medium and Datasucker.

no contest here. Honestly, I have never lost a card I wanted to NRE, and in most games (>90%) it makes me a credit and a click when it triggers a free IHW. It’s also a much better lotus solution than a one-of atman with no tutor.

ICE carver is solid, no doubt; however it doesn’t replace NRE very well because “if you aren’t worried about lotus” is an imaginary situation, at least where I play. Right now I’m considering trying out -2 babies +1 carver +1 progenitor/memstrips
Put another way, it’s always been possible to boost Yog’s strength for 2 influence through The Personal Touch. The power of NRE is that it’s a good card even when Lotus Field is not an issue.
Ice Carver is the better comparison, but yeah, NRE essentially combines Atman and Ice Carver into one card if you use Yog. That’s what’s makes it a good card, not either part alone.

The only issue with Ice Carver is D4V1D neutralization, really. But most of the time, if D4V1D is getting neutralized like that, it doesn’t hurt you very much overall. The cost is still kinda big-feeling, but being able to make better/easier use of Mimic and Yog (and even Corroder) makes the “lotsa runs” plan ever so much stronger.

By this logic you should be playing Ice carver, as it’ll often be as good as two bad pub. But, that’s why I’m playing ice carver, so.

Also, career fair; one more reason to run Ice Carver.

It’s almost as if their was another reason to play NRE beyond just making your runs cheaper

Oh there is; but I’m just pointing out that the value from this card is often less than the value from another card people don’t play that much.

This is the Whizzard deck I brought to FFG regionals last saturday. This one doesn’t have parasite so i thought maybe some people would like to try anarch without parasite. It didn’t do as well as it should have as I made more piloting errors that day than I normally do. Nerves perhaps. It’s been a very solid deck.

Note 1: I swapped the memstrips for progenitor and it was a big mistake. the 3 credit cost is a lot easier to swallow than the timing required for progenitor

Note 2: do not install a sucker until you’re on 1MU left of your starting 4, you have a box-e in play, or your memstrips is in play.

Note 3: Don’t be a slave to stimhacking in your Morningstar or yog. Specifically morningstar. Yeah that’s the goal but if you need it just spend the dough. there’s 13 econ cards and a baby who craps money in its diaper so you can afford it.

Note 4: knight and the 2 d4vids are flexible as you’d imagine. I started with 2 knights and one d4v1d but predicted lotus field wouldn’t be as likely an issue for this tourney as BS ice. at least that last minute change was right.

Anyways…

How do you deal with Power Shutdown for 0?

If you don’t suspect it not much you can do about it but put your pants back on and go about your business differently. Pretty much the same for anyone packing SMC and/or Net Ready Eyes. There’s always a card(s) that can cause the deck you built to be sad. So all you can do is determine your likelihood of encountering it and decide if its worth watering down the purpose of your deck.

I didn’t see a Power Shutdown all day so I reckon I guessed right.

If you are afraid of that card then take D4v1d’s away and add knights. Same for if you think there are more lotus fields than ICE with huge strength.

Shame we didn’t play.

Battle of the gingers? It would have been hard to get past the sultry Barry white impression you had that day. I probably would have swooned

Whizzard Vamp deck performed remarkably well in Philly – only lost one game (versus NEH AstroBiotics), and I was to blame, not the deck (panicked when he scored the first Astro and started wasting clicks and creds on futile R&D runs instead of drawing for the Turntable).

Speaking of which, Turntable was MVP, derailing two Astro trains and winning one game versus RP (I stole a Chronos Project and Turned it into a TFP for the win).

I played both sides of NEH AstroBiotics w. Shutdowns vs L4J Whizzard at Regionals yesterday and watched it again in the top 8.

NEH won all 3 times. I realise that anecdotes aren’t data, but I feel like the matchup is really bad for Whizzard unless he has some tech like @IirionClaus is talking about (Turntable) or additional ways of breaking an early Lotus Field. Knight, maybe?

Atman at 4?

Yeah, you have Atman at 4 and that will show up eventually. Both he and I had it in the deck. The trouble is that turn 1/2 Astro behind Field. You either need enough quick $ to run out that enormous Atman (and the Atman itself) or you need both Yog and NRE to show up. That doesn’t seem to happen often enough given the # of cards you get to see before they get on the train.

I feel like Turntable would (mostly) solve that problem but leave you with another one, i.e. memory. Memstrips? Not sure if the cure is worse than the disease.

Right, I agree that Turntable might not fit into the Wooley Whizzard build. I play an Eater/Vamp jank version, so five MUs is more than enough for me.

NEH Shutdown Lotus sounds like it has an abysmal Kate matchup

I dunno, I’ve found the combination of aggressive (turn 1 / 2) remote plays and Power Shutdown pretty good against Kate.
