Playing some games with the deck, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I really would like to see Memstrips in almost every game. Am I the only one?
After setup you REALLY want to have yog, mimic, corroder and TWO datasuckers. When you put down the Medium all your parasites and davids are dead cards or require some serious juggling of stuffs (i was deleting the icebreakers that I had extra in hand, but even that won’t be good vs servers with all types of ice)
I think singleton Memstrips will go in my deck as… the 46th card
you’re not the only one. I’m currently testing -2 baby +2 'strips and I think it’s a flat improvement in any matchup but pure FA rush (which I’ve been doing well against myself, but I hear others aren’t having as much luck with that matchup) the flexibility w/r/t multiple data suckers, multiple parasites, and medium makes games against glaciers so, so much easier.
He was HB. I’m not sure on his Whizz, but, he was rocking the alt art Whizz I gave him in Wausau, WI last month. Maybe he streamlined it, but it’s his own build. May still have Morningstar in it.
his big splash was 2 desperado’s. The rest I think are 2 SO’s, 2 NRE and one utopia. He used to have a QT in it but I think that dropped when NRE was released.
rest of it was all normal anarch stuff
There were no changes per se’. He and I had been practicing whizzard for around 3 months. I’ve taken him (whizz) to every major tourney because I’m shallow and I love the ZORK T-shirt. He developed a deep burning hatred (only slightly overstated) for NEH and finally decided that enough was enough!

SO?
In other news, I’m considering an influence package of 2x Clone Chip, 2x E3, 2x NRE and 3x Career Fair. Is that a bad idea?
I started with 3 career fair and ended on 2. Depends on how many targets for it. I had 9 (11 if you count Kati). If you’re not using earthrise I would find it difficult to include it, don’t know your deck though.
I think the magnitude of E3 depends on whether or not you have more anarch breaker support beyond NRE and how much glacier/HB is around your area. you’ll just have to experiment and see for yourself.
For what it’s worth, I just ran L4J at the New Orleans regional (~30 people) and it carried to me to 2nd place. Not really that impressive, but I figured I’d share my thoughts here:
D4VID is amazing. It’s your third and fourth corroders against NEH, plus it’s pretty cool against Blue Sun.
NRE was the worst card in my deck. I either didn’t need it, or Atman 4 was affordable and more effective. Got power-shutdowned the only time I installed it.
Against Butchershop, my strategy of “only run for agendas when I have more money than them” went 2-0. D4VID also saved me from an IA breaking news behind a wraparound (see #1).
Regarding memstrips: I really don’t know. It would have been nice to see against RP, but the late game in this deck is already so, so strong.
Just some anecdotal thoughts to feed the Whiz hype.
2nd place at a 30+ person event ain’t too shabby imho
yes this - can’t understand people who play orange and don’t pack this card.
you must have gotten lucky? your atman was never on the bottom of the stack vs. a deck that packs lotuses? I will say though, NRE is actually way less critical that we all thought it would be, in 90% of games I play it it ends up going on corroder most runs.
3)yuup. same experience here, the deck is crazy rich and makes mincemeat out of asset econ.
4)yeah, I’ve been testing them in L4J w/ SMC, and so far have only played them vs HB glacier (though in that matchup they are lifesaving). definitely a questionable include.
I don’t think that is quite true. Even if Lotus Field isn’t even in your opponent’s deck, you can get a huge amount of value from NRE over the course of a game. Against most corps, it’s going to be at least as good as a bad pub, and it can often times be better, especially against glacier decks.
Put another way, it’s always been possible to boost Yog’s strength for 2 influence through The Personal Touch. The power of NRE is that it’s a good card even when Lotus Field is not an issue.
Six of one, half a dozen of the other. It makes basically every run more efficient, for free, for the rest of the game (until it gets shutdown, I guess), regardless of how you quantify it.
I still maintain that Ice Carver is the best choice of the modifiers. NRE solves the Lotus Field problem, so that is really important. If you’re not worried about Lotus Field, then it’s Ice Carver every time for me. The Personal Touch would be the worst choice of the three for Anarchs since it is both inflexible and hosted.
@voltorocks

Anecdotal evidence that, for most runs, shows Ice Carver would have served the exact same function, and maybe even applied to more than one piece of ICE, saving more credits.
@nmh
The power of NRE is that it’s a good card even when Lotus Field is not an issue.
If Lotus Field isn’t an issue, then NRE’s primary function for Anarch (imo) is irrelevant and Ice Carver would have been better. You need to determine whether 2 meat damage and the risk of Power Shutdown 0 or paying 3cr is the harder cost to bear.
The 3cr could be a rough hit to your bank account depending on when you play it, but losing out on combo pieces in your hand can be just as bad, or worse, if you don’t have Plascrete or the Corp misses your IHW. I think going with 1x Ice Carver + 1x NRE is a much better way to go than 2x NRE. Don’t forget that dropping one NRE frees up 2 Influence as well.
My own experience has been that 2 meat damage is usually a substantially cheaper cost than 3 credits (I’m no longer running 3x Career Fair myself, so I’m usually not getting value from the fact that it’s a 3-cost resource), which makes sense given that Ice Carver is (absent Lotus Field) just a straight upgrade once in play. I really like the bang-for-your-buck that NRE provides in general, but Ice Carver seems like a fine card if you’re at 3 CF and don’t expect to see Lotus all over the place.
edit: I’ll be testing an Ice Carver over the 3rd Datasucker this week, we’ll see how it goes
