Valencia, the combo Anarch?

Don’t be wary. The power is real! Make sure to actually pop an IJ and don’t fuss about it!!!

I like the list. What do you think about -2 Gordian -1 Career Fair, +2 Zu +1 Desperado?

Probably about equal. Hard to say. I do like the Gordian but I also like the Desperado as early as I can. But also I really like 3 Career Fair. #can’tfititall

Career Fair is a nice 3-influence economic solution for non-MaxX/Noise Anarchs.

Desperado seems like an expensive luxury only because it makes you slot Memstrips. On the other hand, you can just slot 2x Grimoire, have 6 influence for Shaper goodies, and not give any f@&ks if you don’t see your console until card 30.

What wrong with luxury items? Also, it’s Desperado. Give it a spin. Grimoire doesn’t do much without recursion. But yes, you could build a deck that would run differently but still be good, with the setup you mention.

This deck is meant to get $3 discounts on every run in the mid- to late game.

Desperado IS the archetype here. Bad publicity and Datasuckers make every run cheap. When you add the Desperado it puts you into the enviable position in which many runs actually make you money. Run one IJ and install the Desperado and you get the Whizzard ability, every run.

Without the Desperado runs could still be good and cheap, but being able to make money with your runs can be very valuable.

Rather than a third desperado, try out a one-of Security Testing. Not ideal in terms of timing, but cheaper to drop, combos well with Desperado when you draw it, combos well with Medium for muliaccess, and gets significantly more utility with Bad Pub than it does even in Criminal decks.

Used to do Desperado/Sec Test out of Whizzard and it tore asset econ to shreds, out of Val it’s even more effective, and I really do find that people undervalue the combination with Medium. Running in (for cheap, with Bad Pub) and getting the money back plus a token before running in for real makes building it up from scratch a cinch.

i only have room for 1 desperado as is…max and net ready eyes have synergy but with val i think it’s ice carver.
more vulnerable, sure. cost 1 more. almost as good as a 2nd bp that you don’t lose a turn to generate.
seems ok.
now if i can get away without special orders, that frees things up a bit.

The big benefit of NRE is with Yog, though, and Ice Carver doesn’t do anything to stop Lotus Field from shutting Yog out.

Sure a Sec Test is good with bad pub and Desperado, but strong combos don’t make great decks; consistency does. Sec test is best in Andy and okay in Other crims, but not worth 3 influence anywhere else.

There’s a giant, tutor-shaped hole that needs patched in any non MaxX/Noise/Eater Anarch deck. 3x Inject, 3x IHW, and 3x Earthrise can fill it pretty well for little influence, though you’ll need some Clone Chips here.

That’s not bad because Clone Chips are awesome almost anytime, while Sec Test is only good during set-up and if you’re winning (you shouldn’t leave naked assets if you’re Val).

2x Net Ready will also be mandatory in these types of decks. So there’s 10 influence already with 2 Desperado and 2 Net Ready. How do you fill the last 5?

The way I see it, you need some kind of tutor help in this last 5 inf. It can either be Clone Chips if you’re running Injects (which are really good if you’re looking for Desperado) or Special Orders. You also need to splash some econ for when you don’t see Desperado early. 3x Career Fair 1x Clone Chip maybe?

Seems more consistent to just splash 3x Career Fair, 2x Net Ready, and multiple Clone Chips and Special Orders. You already have bad pub; selling the farm to have Desperado too is being greedy.

yeah that’s basically it re: lotus. net ready allows you to ditch the knights, for example.
then again, that’s influence i’m saving.

it’s possible that you just run both

Tutoring isn’t a problem at all in my Val due to:

-3 copies of Mimic and Corroder and 2 Gordians
-Paige
-IHW and Earthrise
-Parasitesucker
-Good old Blackmail

I think I remember one game where all three Corroders kept being at the bottom of the deck even after shuffling a bunch with Paige, but it’s never been a problem. Blackmail allows Val to take a few extra clicks drawing and setting up that other runners might not have.

no tutor, more breakers, no knights, net ready, room for another desperado
i’m sold

It’s been a revelation to me doing this with my Leela deck which runs 3xMedium with the Desperado/Sec Test package. You hardly miss out on anything at all in terms of accesses since Medium will continue to snow ball even if you don’t see any cards.

3x Paige ugh. Not a believer. To me it seems her inclusion locks the deck into a rely-on-blackmail-while-you build plan.

Tell me how your deck is okay when it doesn’t see Paige early.

anti-passive/endless blackmail recursion, checking in

I lost to a Titan FA once recently because I couldn’t find Corroder or Parasite to get through a silly Ice Wall on RD and he combo’d out super fast (pretty neat to see actually when that deck fires–problem is that it fizzles if you get one of their Atlases).

Other than that the winrate is pretty bonkers. Just try it once on OCTGN! For research.

Paige isn’t essential–it just makes the deck a lot better.

Was saying that if you were running Desperado, rather than adding a third, a Security Testing would be a better use of the influence.

It’s like DBS and Jackson, it’s a different way of doing something similar in a different card. While it doesn’t get Paige’d out, having 3-of Desperado out of faction is just rough when you can only play one. Security Testing acts as an extra Desperado that you can actually install and make use of, comboing well with Desperado itself, Datasucker, Medium, and being useful in general.

I built and ran an Anarch deck back after H&P that used both (Rincewind Whizzard), and until both Lotus Field and Blue Sun hit it did pretty well, even without Inject or any of the O&C tools. Now that set-up has a lot more potential, with more draw, access to Bad Pub as an additional cost-saving mechanic, a way to bring back one of the most effective breakers ever, stronger economy overall, D4V1D, no need to run 2x Plascrete, etc.

If you want to do the thing with Career fair, you should. And I do think NRE is a good inclusion either way because then you just spend the influence for IT and stop having to splash for something that isn’t Yog (which is well worth the cost). But this is a different build altogether, from the sound of it, and while it might be stronger (see Reg-Ass vs EatHole MaxX),

I also think you’re ignoring the use of SecTest with Medium, because almost everyone does, but it’s actually a pretty potent way to get set up again after a virus wipe. It is an immensely powerful combination and lets you get a lot more benefit out of Medium than is otherwise possible, taking both from cards good only in set-up and when you’re winning and making them more useful when you’re at rough parity or even, in some cases, losing.

The Rincewind deck died quickly and I was never good enough as a player to make it big (though someone did do well with it in a store champ elsewhere), but those two cards are so much better. I’ve often said that it was a deck way too good for me to have designed, and still wish I was a better player then (even just as good as I am now, which isn’t amazing) so that I could’ve made it more well known.

I’d almost rather run Sec Test alone in Anarch than Desperado alone (almost) but there’s little reason to not run both together with the influence Anarch’s now have to spare since O&C.
