all fair points. but this is experiment time. i normally consider a purge a win, but what if i wanna think of it as a loss… just less of a loss.

i like multi access, i like efficient rigs, i like a lot of the points you guys are making… but this is the time after a big box, but before everything gets settled, where you can question a lot of things… and confirm that your old suspicions are still accurate.

maybe i find out that all the old knowledge is right. then at worst i played some fun games and didnt advance my tournament level knowledge much.

but maybe i find something interesting. then i have another tool in the belt when im designing whatever deck i think might catch the meta off guard.

so, for example, in regards to the lack of multi access.

if i ruin your HQ ice, then i can free run hq. ed kim might kill an operation, ill run again. take a agenda? run again. just take free single runs. if im milling r+d, and putting a lot of hq pressure… do i need to run rd at all? actually? who knows. but i can add more ice killing in the multi access slots, and play a different deck entirely.

things like that… try it out and figure it out.

do i think i just unlocked the game? not at all. but i take breaks and just try weird concepts… and see if i figure something new out. if you guys wanna look to apply the old knowledge, thats great! i love the input… more angles to view things from help me make choices. but im coming from the angle that i know what im doing, but im trying something im not sure works.

Problem is, I feel like Showing Off doesn’t synergize well with Ed. Here’s my short analysis of why Demo Run is probably better:

  • If I’m doing just one run this turn, and have Medium somewhat charged already:
    • Showing Off is better if I checked reasonably deep last turn and still know what they’re about to draw
    • Otherwise, I’d go for a cardless run (in order to both check their draw and capitalize on my ID)
  • If we’re doing two runs, it doesn’t make sense to lead with Showing Off, as you’d be wasting your ID on a card they won’t see unless they reshuffle. While we’re at it, Demo Run is also worse here then for other Anarchs, because again, you’re once again wasting your ID.
  • Three runs per turn is fantasy territory, but let’s indulge:
  • Normal + Showing Off + Normal lets you see (N+1) + (N+2) + (M+2) = 2*N+M+3, where N is the number of counters you started with, and M is the number of cards you nuked/stole on your first run (agendas, assets, possibly one operation)
  • Normal + Demo Run + Normal lets you see (N+1) + (M+1) + (N+3) = 2*N+M+3… in other words, the exact same number
  • And, last but not least, Demo Run also works on HQ, which can be pretty significant with Nerve Agent in the picture

So, the way I see it, the only scenario where Showing OIff makes sense for Ed is when you already know the top X, know that noe of them are worth trashing, can only make one run this turn, and want to get a token. Either that, or a desperate last-click hail mary dig.

(please note that other Anarchs might be better off, as their IDs don’t anti-synergize with first-run Showing Off)

edit: I will say that there is one thing that Showing Off is - it’s a pretty brutal counter to DBS and, to a lesser extent, Yagura. If you hit them with this after they’ve been abusing said scrying effects for a while, they’re probably done unless they can reshuffle right the fuck now, in which case you’re gonna hate life because Showing Off’s replacement effect is mandatory, not optional.

I find that against a good corp player, it’s hard enough to even get Medium really going where Showing Off will be a benefit to play. It’s a really neat “win more” card, but I’m not going to put it in a tournament deck.

Perhaps it would be good in like a Hivemind deck that goes for one huge turn. That’s something to try. But Mr. Kim does not have time for Hivemind!

I suspect that’s why it’s called, well, “Showing Off”

i do like the potential of it in a deck with RDI’s to be a 2nd set of worse Makers Eyes that hate DBS a touch. Or medium. But its just moving parts when you could do better for less work.

How people find the card slot for that and not be missing something big is gonna blow my mind

with showing off…you’re looking to use it once. so in a deck where part of your plan is running in with medium counters at any point…a well timed showing off simply gives you a slew of accesses, another counter…and If Kim has just trashed an operation in a previous run (and of course if the corp draws). you have more new accesses for the next run.
showing off is just a shot to get a few fresh cards in the middle of any typical medium dig plan (the kind of multi access which Kim excels at). and it’s cheap.
so I think you may be over thinking it. seems like a nobrainer.

demo run clears the board in an equally effective way. but I can’t see any reason not to also throw one showing off into this plan if you’re running medium.

edit: as someone said, successful runs with multiple medium counters isn’t something you’ll get often. your deck’s plan isn’t revolving around medium…much less showing off

You quite obviously can’t fit in both Showing Off and Demo Run without missing something critical. If you can only pack one, which of those two would you rather have?

you definitely shouldn’t be choosing between them. if there’s no room then there’s no room.

I was trolling, half-heartedly believing my own comments. I just wanted to live the dream of seeing a Showing Off in a well-tuned deck. The similarities between the two are nearly identical. One is just newer and more shiny.

A viable alternative, if you despise holding onto Demo or ShowO as a dead draw for half the game, would be just another cutlery or econ option. Hardly exciting, but could prove more useful than a 1-of those events. I’m just a simple sucker for them, that’s all.

Underwhelming. It obviously has synergy with SMC, but most of our programs are cheap enough to just find with SMC th old-fashioned way. I’ve been toying with the idea of switching to Inject/Clone Chip in order to get more value out of Deja Vu as well as cycle through cards faster (and same on some influence), but that may be for another deck.

This is true, but Vigil installs for one less and will also certainly get us some amount of card draw. It also places a odd sort of pressure on the corp, as if they hold five cards, you get a draw, but if they don’t, you get better odds of hitting that key card in their hand. I’m also beginning to think that I have to use Sneakdoor the way Gabe does, where you get a few surprise runs out of it and then trash it later on to install something else. I could very easily be swayed back to Grimoire if it doesn’t work out, though.

2 Imps seems reasonable. I’ll give it a try.

Oddly enough, I am also located in Wisconsin! I’m in Madison, how about you? Maybe we both played in the store championship in Middleton last week?

Lukas said that if you win a Regionals event with a Showing Off in your list he will make an official 2016 Store Champs playmat featuring your face 'shopped onto the Showing Off artwork.

With the luck I’ve been having with double elim lately, I’ll settle for winning a Store Champs without Showing Off :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s just basic Anarch stuff, get a ton of accesses, win game. It’s almost the reverse of going down the rabbit hole - just clean plain Netrunner, with added disruption from Kims ID text.

I have played with showing off and it’s just never better than demolition run. Even if everyone in your meta is running DBS they maybe put agendas on the bottom where you’re almost always going to demo-run ICE into archives which is so very very nice.

as far as demo or a card like showing off I’d say it’s ‘live’ at a 3+ card dig. that’s pretty reasonable to obtain.

15 influence spent (max 15)
45 cards (min 45)
Cards up to Order and Chaos

Deck built on NetrunnerDB.

Should play similarly to what Hannibal and I have been cooking up, but I want to give Inject/Clone Chip a fair shake. It may end up better - the deck will have stronger draw power, and you get to play programs that you lose to Injects out of your yard with the Clone Chips. Deja Vu also becomes a value play more frequently with viruses entering the yard.

I respect your choice of Gordian. 2 is only 2 more influence than double Personal Touch. have you considered 1 Gordian 1 Yog, though?

I agree. Especially with datasuckers Yog can solve a lot of problems. I guess though if you only want to install once might as well be consistent.

I have considered it, and while I like Yog in the FA matchup against stuff like Quandary and Pop-Up, I really wanted to avoid having to rely on Datasucker tokens for 2 of my breakers. I think if I switch back to the SMC route, I can more easily swap to 1 Gordian/1 Yog, as I can pull the one I need depending on the circumstance.
