E. Kim Appreciation Thread

Yea my early solution was 3x Knight. So far deck space hasn’t allowed that. And so far I can get solutions out to ice, but it’s maintaining that solution that seems to be the issue. Guy was running a Next Design so early facechecks were going to be worse there.

Yes, I lately skip on installing Grimoire quite a lot also. But why not Vigil instead of Astrolabe? An extra credit, which hurts, but it’s influence free.

Is Paige Piper worth it in this build? The only duplicates you definitely want to get rid of imo are Paige itself, Grimoire and Kati (maybe Liberated).

Hitting a Cortex Lock naked isn’t significantly worse than hitting a Katana, it just changes the rule of thumb from “have at least three cards when running” to “…four…”. In fact, in one of the most common scenarios (drop a Sucker, start probing centrals) it’s completely identical.

Oh yeah undoubtedly. Its not going to kill you or anything and as with many flatline avenues can be played around. My apologies as i admit my comment was more bait than anything else, hence it being so short and flippant. Still iv won games where the runner has hit an early cortex lock and lost 4 cards worth of econ or breakers. Taxing cards and taxing recursion is a thing.

I think if you’re playing 3 hotel the Wyld Pancakes solution might be stronger. It’s definitely worth testing.

This is what I used to like the most about playing pre-O&C Anarch - all the redundancy necessitated by not having access to tutoring/recursion in-faction meant losing a copy of something is actually irrelevant. It’s a trait I’m still trying to preserve in my current Anarch builds, too :stuck_out_tongue:

(there’s something inherently badass in running through a Komainu saying “Take all that crap, I don’t need it anyway!”)

Haha yeah, iv thrown whole hands away to komainu before and still won. In noiseshop you get to be all “all my stuff in the heap huh? well, at least i know where it is”.

However, with ppvp kate taxing recursion can be as useful as the net damage itself. I think cortext lock is pretty strong for this reason, although obviously you can just install 2 SMC’s and laugh your way through.

Getting back on topic, im thinking sneakdoor might be an interesting include? It works with hacktivist to create a massive amount of HQ pressure AND archives pressure. Both those cards will hurt whats it your hand (with Kim’s ID ability anyway in the case of sneakdoor) and create a real need to defend archives. Progentior can hold onto the datasuckers and still leave enough memory for the full breaker suite as well as sneakdoor.

My experience is as follows:

Sneakdoor- 2 mu, meaning you can hardly get/keepany breakers in play with it without mu support. SMC is a no-go with sneakdoor without playing a console first, or without waiting on Djinn to host it.

-HQ pressure is not that impactful now with Ash and Caprice so ubiquitous, because top decked agendas can always be dropped in a remote and be more safe under heavy HQ pressure. Remember a Corp is not likely to hold ops against you- HQ is reactive pressure, as you’re threatening a place the Corp can prune and control to the match. R&D is where to be, intercepting ops and actually denying the Corp those benefits.

Remember as Anarch you have 4 gear checks (unless splashing zu/gordian), so mu is thin unless you further combo up your deck with Memstrips or Djinn on top of Grimoire. Corroder/Yog/Mimic/Datasucker is your core, now add Medium for your multi-access and Atman/Knight for Lotus Field, that’s 6 mu already. I tried Progenitor for Datasucker (awesome in theory, CVS-proof!) but then I need to draw Progenitor first before playing Datasucker, or install over the first sucker with a second later in the game; I tried putting Medium on it, which wasn’t bad either, but Power Shutdown is apparently still used sometimes, as I have lost stacked mediums a few times to Shutdowns.

Kim really seems to want no frills in his program choices so far to me- I am finding I gain my edge in the selection of my resources and events. Less programs means better Injects, and cards like Career Fair and Ice Carver are pretty solid for Kim, helping remove Datasucker dependency.

Thanks a lot @ItJustGotRielle  I appreciate the input. I too was worried about PS taking out progenitor.

Re: datasucker, would you consider ice carver to be a replacement or addition? Im struggling with deck slots as it is haha

In the same way, do you think personal touch is worth it? Im suspecting its not, in something like maxx iv seen it (personal touch) used to good effect but then she already has the inbuilt draw power to grab it.

I tried personal touch early on, after I dropped the supplier overmind idea, looking for a way to deal with lotus field and help make runs affordable. It’s amazing, seriously awesome- if you can draw it. Having no hardware tutor you are either slotting 3 of it, (6 influence for Lotus Field?), or the more reasonable 2. At 2 you can’t search for it, and just have to draw it; think back to rush decks seeing you’re anarch and throwing down a single Lotus Field to rush an agenda behind because, well, you’re anarch. Finding it early is so pivotal, and if you can’t, you really give up the early game. That’s what led to Atman/2 SMC, a three-card answer to Lotus Field AND additionally an answer to any ice in the game (except Turing, then you need ICE CARVER see where I’m going with this :P) on demand.

I run 2 sucker and 1 ice carver, and I enjoy the flexibility. At one copy ice carver will never ever be a dead draw, which can be the argument against most “utility” unique resources. Like I was saying, expanding your utility and keeping your program count down really makes Inject and Earthrise shine, though it takes some piloting practice to learn what you should and shouldn’t play when considering your future late game with respect to Inject. Here’s the list I’ve been using in SHL4:

Get right out of town.

Basically reserved for Tsurugi and Excalibur, my two least favorite ice to deal with. With breakers out it pretty much costs me like 3 credits to get into pretty much anywhere, and parasite just what I can’t break or brings it in range.

I think Kim is arguably the exception. You can steal agendas. You can Kim-smash ops. You can pay a trash cost on assets and upgrades. This leaves ice.

And come on, are we talking anarch or not? Outside of Lotus field, Anarch is great at either rendering ice irrelevant or destroying it. Even then, I pack Atman for Lotus Field, which turns it into a one credit tax.

Imp as an econ card is alright (especially with Grimore) but scrubber has a way higher ceiling and doesn’t eat MU. Also I don’t need/want to give the corp more reasons to purge.

Hmm.

I like Gordian and Fair. I’ll second to Vigil reference - it’s more swingy than astrolabe, but still solid. Problem being, then you are going into 5 MU, which is potentially troublesome.

The six spare influence could work as two SMCs, or a set of clone chips.

I’d probably run into MU problems with this deck(especially with SMC). I’ve gone to 1 of Memstrips for lategame all breakers+viruses scenarios.

Only one medium, and no way to tutor it up or get it back? That’s going to compromise your lategame. Medium digs are awesome with Kim. Although I guess you do have Paige, so you’ll deck thin to it pretty easily.

I’d also try a few scrubbers/Hacktivist Meetings in place of Imp.

was thinking this as I fell asleep. both are more targets for Career Fair and Paige, which is good. I often find myself only removing 1 Earthrise with Paige, sometimes none.

I like this idea, too. Pretty safe to thin at least 1 Scrubber after the first install, more likely 2. Also Scrubber can’t be purged, and it would ease up the MU pressure. Imp is good for clearing ICE out of centrals, though. tough call

thanks for the feedback all. will probabl play this more today and report back. Think I’ll slot Vigil, too, and if it doesn’t pull it’s weight try Astrolabe or Clone Chips.

Paige targets with original build: Paige, Kati, Grimoire (console), 1 Liberated, 1 or 2 Wyldside, duplicate Breakers, 1 Imp (usually)… definitely not pushing her targets to the limit, but my idea was to be able to pack triplicates of important cards then ditch a few or the rest to make draws better. new version is going to try -3 Earthrise +3 Wyld +3 Pancakes, so that’s some more Paige food. totally valid question, though; like I originally said, wanted to play with Paige and Eddie

also want to try 3 ProCo as draw engine, Wyld Pancakes seems good but it’s 6 cards as opposed to 3. also 1 ProCo with Career Fair is only 2 c, ditch the others (ideal world). it’s just very click intensive.

This seems better to me in a Paige deck. Paige should increase your draw quality anyway, and Wyld Pancakes is likely to overdraw an already thinned deck.

Went 6-1 tonight with my first outing with kim. Had fun, but apart from the games against blue sun didnt feel like i was really leveraging kim’s ability. Sneakdoor was funny, maybe not correct but still did work. MU was obviously the problem. Hacktivist meeting was pretty cool. Im on my phone at the minute so will post the list tomorrow.

Hitrate is kinda part of the deal here - When you just trash an Interns, you don’t feel like you just did something worthy of an ID power. It’s cool, but you’re not exactly excited. It’s only obvious when you hit a high value target (OAI, tag and bag ops, Biotic labor).

It feels way different on the corp side, I find. Econ seems just a bit short, things move a bit to quickly, and random ops will get yanked out of HQ or R&D.

I’ve had games where I took out that key Celeb Gift screwed their ongoing econ, but that Next rush deck was running off Melange didn’t have many great targets.

hey, Interns is a powerful card especially in this meta
