Account siphons and keyhole really wreck PE. It’s very hard for any of the PE builds I’ve tried (and PE was my favourite corp for a very long time) to get any foothold in the game at all. Chronos Project is inconvenient rather than catastrophic to MaxX unless the game goes long and there’s no reason that it should.
I’ve had to Deja Vu a Corroder or Mimic enough that I’m thinking about Retrieval Run. Even on a 2 cost breaker that’s not a bad deal. The popularity of Keyhole Maxx is leading to occasional preemptive Archives ice but worse case scenario is they waste resources to rez otherwise useless ice?
Also thinking about shaking up the Cutlery a bit. Already had a few games where I get two Knifed in hand against a field of Code Gates and Sentries.
10-1 with the deck so far though. The loss coming to a Government Takeover 6 point Punitive. I had 18 credits, I’ve Had Worse in hand and had Imped his Scorched Earth and SEA Source away. Utopia Shard for a 50% chance to survive?
This Maxx build dont run AS or Keyhole, that’s why I’m asking about it.
Also, you can meta your Jinteki PE to be “ok” against those builds if they are popular, adding Hokusai Grid or Trick of Light.
Ah, the post you replied to was mine and it was about MaxX Siphon, hence my response!
I’ve had worse is a good card for allowing you to dig in relative safety. I do think the regular MaxX build is weaker than the Siphon version against PE, but PE is pretty much unplayable at the moment because of the prevalence of the former so it doesn’t really matter.
MaxX Siphon is powerful, but I agree with @Calimsha . The more people play against it, the easier they find to beat it.
Isn’t that true of any deck?
My win-rate in Stimhack League with my MaxX deck is 83%. That’s quite a bit higher than Calimsha’s win-rate with the regular-ass MaxX version. Calimsha is most certainly a better player than me, so what conclusion do we draw?
Ah! told you so.
There’s probably several conclusions. One is that the Eater deck is better. Another is that Eater/Keyhole is easier to win with against players that are unfamiliar with its weaknesses. Another is that the players you are playing against are worse than the people Calimsha is playing.
I’ve personally found that the more I play against it, the better I get at defending. However, the first time I played against it I felt helpless, and it basically destroyed me. So based on my own experience, I think that the second possible conclusion is a likely candidate, but that’s just one man’s experience. I’m not trying to shit on your accomplishments with the deck, mind you, 83% win rate with a deck is fantastic, regardless of circumstances!
You’re right, it certainly isn’t proof of anything on its own. I just think that we’re looking for excuses rather than admitting that it may be a stronger deck. Occam’s razor and all that.
I should point out as well that in two store championships the win-rate is even higher. I’ve played 13 matches with it at those and lost once by a single credit. My most recent win with it in Stimhack league was against the current 4th placed player. The idea that he isn’t familiar with the deck is pretty hilarious as he’s played a variant of it in pretty much all of his runner games in Stimhack league (some 35 games against all comers), but he still lost 8 points to 0.
I definitely agree with the prevailing wisdom that it completely flattens players who aren’t aware of it. What I’m not seeing is any evidence that it suddenly becomes weak against players that are.
I’ve lost 2 games in league with my RegAss Maxx (twice against kill deck) and 2 games outside (once in tournament against @fluffdasheep and once in a fun match against @bayushi_david). I’ve won every other games I’ve played with (around 50-60).
Then why is your recorded win-rate so much lower than that?
To answer my own question, looks like you switched over from Kate about 25 games ago. In that time I see 3 reported corp wins vs your maxx I think? That puts you at basically identical stats to my MaxX deck.
Sorry for multiple edits: bblum, apo and grimgravyboat are the defeats I see for your MaxX deck.
Because I’ve played a lot of craps during the start of the league and only started to play regAss Maxx since last week Monday. Against you in fact. If you pay attention to my win ratio it started to climb after I stopped playing Titan.
Keep playing guys! OCTGN data will reveal all!
I’m pretty sure the Octgn data will only tell us win-rate of IDs, not archetypes. It would be awesome if we could get more detail about cards played within ID data though. Is that possible?
I suppose that’s true. Damn, that sucks - we really need a way to label decks as archetypes based on card combinations.
I have an idea! When reporting the matches, make a bunch of notes about what exactly was in the deck. That way, people can better track the stats about what specific decks are winning! Surely no one would have a problem with that! It has no downside at all, right guys? Right? …Right?
No one would have complained within the last week about people even thinking about posting just IDs on challengeboards, would they?
Neither here nor there, but I’m calling my regular-ol’ breakers MaxX build “Minimum Punk Rock”
.
Hungry MaxX: eater/keyhole/cutlery
greedy Maxx: siphon recursion
Mandromeda: MaxX with breakers
Are you still persevering with Magnum Opus? I tried a variation of MaxX yesterday with MO in my opening hand against NEH and just found it way too slow to keep up with trashing sansans and still getting accesses. How is it working out for you?
