2.5 miles, that is not very far (?), I mean walking in a blizzard might not be the optimal way to get there but splitting a cab with a couple of people, how much could that cost? Maybe cabs are run on liquid gold and extremely expensive over there idk? At home cabs are indeed expensive, compared to international standards, but 2.5 miles and splitting would be no issue, or?
There are no venues for reasonable cost on a Friday nearby that can hold 80-120 people. It would take a harder cap, or most of the entry going to the venue.
The lady at the VFW noted whomever rents it on Fridays (weddings) usually pays for a bartender, and has them make food. They’re trying to maximize their money, and are holding out for that. Over 8-10 hours, we can drink $1000, right?
Depends on how dank the beer is.
I don’t know, I am not used to whatever you call beer over there. But I am willing to give it a try.
Yeah, it’s a VFW. I’m sure it’s weak sauce shite beer.
I’ll check again with the Radisson, but, I think the cost is untenable. There’s not much nearby, because, it’s Roseville.
I’m pretty sure I can drink that much. American beer is like making love in a canoe right? F£&%ing close to water.
If you get 100 people spending ten dollah (love you long time GI) each, then that’s your 1000 right there.
What about food? If it would help solidify the venue, would people want some food made by old ladies?
In Germany we have a saying: “7 Bier ersetzen eine Mahlzeit.” meaning Seven beers are equivalent to one meal. And lets be honest, when you are having a meal already, you really want something to wash it down with.
That said, some solid food during a long tournament is certainly something nice.
Food in the venue is definitely better than having to scavenge during a break.
i think food should be secondary if it puts too much hassle in getting a place booked. I can pitch in extra to secure a space.
Man we need to show these damn foriengers what real american beer is all about, you guys are nuts.
Guilty as charged
We threw an anniversary party a few months ago and rented a shuttle to get people to our venue (the 612 Brew taproom). The company we used were awesome, but they do have a 4-hour minimum. We ended up doing two 4-hour blocks to get people there and back, and it was $391 for each block after everything (tax, etc). That got us a full size bus.
If we could get away with just doing one block, it might be possible to finagle a different venue in the same price range that you’d pay for the current Roseville option on the Friday.
My main concern is space for playing.
Whats your limit on distance?
The only other place that I could think of in the area was the Roseville Oval, it has some banquet facility options and is about 2.5 miles from FFG’s Event Center.

Well, I’m trying to make it as easy as possible on the out-of-towners. Having people have to Uber it across town…
re: the Radisson
I just checked their capacity chart, and the only way to get enough space would be to either do two rooms totally $750+, or their entire main hall, which is going to be over $1000 (used for weddings mostly).
I can check other VFWs or the sort, but they will be more of a haul (8-10 miles+).
I think I can push 30 people in my house and am willing to put that up. I don’t have the most luxurious crib but its certainly serviceable and that puts food and drink in our hands.
Transportation would become the next concern but certainly cheaper than a space.
I’m going to be spending the weekend with an event coordinator. Remind me of the dates and I’ll see if she has a thought. Target cost also please.
Well, the rooms go from 60 max. to 240 max., and the cost for the latter would be $500 for 8 hours.
If rental for space was cheaper would distance become less of an issue? (I’m sure people would give rides) Also where are we trying to base it from? Roseville or MOA because that is two very different things
