Thanks, that’s what I meant. It is no longer possible to play NBN from a single core set according to the rules, which slightly undermines the idea of buying the core as a standalone game. Given that’s supposed to be an option I was dreamily speculating whether this means they’ll have to re-release an updated version.
I guess that means I get to care about this game again!
I think I also spied a couple of interesting changes skimming the FAQ text (besides adding in some unofficial rulings, like Jeeves with double events). For example, Targeted Marketing no longer pays you off if you named a current that the runner then plays - it just trashes the TM.
e: I’m also unhappy from an aesthetics perspective about the errata changes, but what can you do, the monsters had to die. Too bad Damon forgot to fix Mumbad City Hall, so the beast is crippled but not dead.
The first edition of the MWL came out as I was learning the game. It was one of the simpler things to wrap my head around.
I took June off from ANR and was planning to pretty much take the rest of the summer off as well – I didn’t sign up for the SSCI and didn’t even schedule my June coaching session with Dan. I’m interested again after this. Whatever my feelings about the individual changes, I have to say that I really appreciate Damon’s willingness to watch the meta and try to address the things he sees as problematic. I was skeptical of the designer change initially, but I’m definitely coming around.
I agree about not liking errata, but I think they are justified in the case of obviously broken cards just from the standpoint of minimising harm to the game. In this case I think they’re pretty acceptable, they’ve also managed to avoid errata’ing the actual mechanics or numbers on cards which is definitely a plus.
Agreed, even the most casual of players in my area keep up on errata and deckbuilding restrictions.
Technically, but that’s definitely not the intention. Ma’ and Pa’ playing their single core set at the kitchen table shouldn’t be concerning themselves with MWL or changes made to core set cards in the scope of 5 cycles and 4 deluxe expansions.
These changes might not be perfect, but if they are enough to make Museum decks not degenerate then I will be very happy.
My soundtrack right now:
I initially missed this, but they did also take Astro off of the MWL. I believe it was the only subtraction, but I’d been wondering whether pre-paid would stay on.
Sad about Astro and David to a lesser extent. Other changes seem fine. They really want people to play Merger don’t they?
It’s less relevant now that it’s just a 1-of, I guess. I never thought that PrePaid would leave, though. Kate just makes that card into something way too powerful.
its interesting that SanSan stayed on MWL even after the astroscript errata. Is NEH fast advance even a thing after this list? There’s only 4 3/2s in faction and you can’t easily fast advance 4/2s without SanSan/Astro token.
Fast Track is a thing. But, yeah… HBFA is King FA again.
You’re probably right, I’d actually been missing it with all the anarch around and thought they hit it too hard the first time. Part of my logic for removing it was to punish Fastro as well, which it turns out they did anyway. I would in general like to see cards rotate off the list occassionally so that it remains short, something like NAPD would be less of a problem now that sales team exists for example (though I think in this case it ought to stay).
I think it’s easy to say that Kate will come on top of the changes anyway. Giving her PPVP back would be hilarous.
Anyway, i see runners, especially shapers, as the clear winner of this MWL, since they can build a little bit slower and thus more consistent / better in lategame now.
Wow, I am very much positively shocked and pleased by these changes.
Shocked, because I was not expecting FFG to be willing to take and apply the hammer as was indeed needed and asked by the community.
And of course pleased, because this will make the game 1000x more exciting and fun again.
10 thumbs up, FFG!
Yeah, these changes make me way more interested in Netrunner again. Though I wonder how much of a hit IG will actually take… Mumba Temple on the MWL, Museum being unique, and MCH not having that gross interaction with Heritage Commitee are all nerfs, but not crippling ones, and there will be a lot less Whizzard played with the anarch suite going on the MWL.
I’m on the opposite side of the fence. The changes to Breaking News and Astro give me less confidence in Damon’s ability to properly curate this list and balance the game. I will post something longer later; break is over at work.
I really don’t like the Astro change. BN I can see, it was silly good with EoI, but Astro basically puts a shotgun to traditional NBNFA, in a way that fundamentally changes the game. The only other major archetype that got murdered this bad by MWL/errata was Prepaid Kate, and Kate can still run the same breaker suite with alternate econ like ProCo. Hosing NEH this bad fundamentally changes the way runners deckbuild.
Admittedly, I’ve been out of serious play for several months, but I’m under the impression that those changes are pretty significant to the IG/Gagarin nastiness. The Heritage / MCH nonsense was spectacularly absurd, and only one museum makes my heart sing.
