oops, my apologies. Messed it up with criminal resourse which gives 2 credit discount on hardware/resources.
Dude who had the Blueshin No Shin deck, that finished 28th or something, was running a 2 Autoscripter Noise deck. Cool idea.
Autoscripter + Wyldside is basically 6c for six-click turns that have to begin with two draws and include a program install somewhere in there (and never having an unsuccessful run). That’s an interesting trade. Still leaves you with 3 free clicks to work with, but you’ve added a virus install.
That’s an interesting framework for sure.
With Earthrise Hotel you would pay a bit more for three turns with four clicks, two card draws and a virus / program install. Sounds pretty strong to me.
I have tested autoscripter against NEH and it seems to be decent. Not sure if it’s worth it against a glacier build. Then again when playing Noise you get more clicks to install virus programs with, so more milling and getting lucky with agendas in archives
All hail Autoscripter!
I use AutoScriptor + Mass Install + Duggars + Joshua, and origami/aesop
Still a bit too “lumpy”, so I might go back to Wyldside.
Been trying that myself. One autoscripter and one beckman for giggles. Hasn’t won in eight or so games so going back to the drawing board for now.
The Auto scripter and the mass install works brilliantly. The rest is too many clicks… slows the deck down. somehow pads/cyberfeeder/astrolabe trade in in some combination seems interesting.
So I’ve now played against three Cambridge PEs with my Noise list and lost every time. I also lost to a PE-style Nisei Division deck. I either get too greedy on overdraw and run out of cards, or forget that Ronin exists and end my turn with too few cards in hand. Both of these have happened multiple times.
What’s the right way to play against Cambridge PE with Noise? What do you do about remotes? How often do you run centrals? Do you ever multiaccess?
On another note, having the 2x Djinn has been nice so far, but without SOT it’s very easy to run out of Déjà Vus. Being able to start the Cache train or get a Datasucker to charge up and eat an Eli is pretty nice, though.
A medium and accessing two new cards (not more) a run can be very strong.
feedback filter.
The #1 mistake I see people making is not running HQ enough. With 3x Imp in your deck you need to get in there and nuke Mushins and EMPs, plus pay credits to trash ambushes before they hit the table. Eating Snares is a small price to pay for information and forcing them to spend extra clicks redrawing.
It’s more important to Deja Vu Imp than it is to get your Caches back - you do NOT need a ton of money in this matchup.
I usually won’t install any breakers. I can just pay through Pup and kill Yagura and Eli with Parasite. The standard Cambridge doesn’t run Komainu but having an instant Parasite available is a good idea if you suspect they might have one.
Overdraw then R&D multiaccess is fine especially if you’ve seen some number of the 3 net damage cards (Fetal, Snare) are not in R&D anymore.
Keep an eye on R&D’s size. If Corp hasn’t been scoring enough, at a certain point you can just stop running and install 2 viruses a turn until they mill out.
1x Feedback Filter is fine in Andy where you can reasonably expect to see it. It seems less fine in Noise where you have to spend precious influence, probably cutting Quality Time, and then hope to draw it. On the other hand, the deck can certainly generate the money to fuel it. Still, I feel like Noise has the tools to deal with Jinteki traps, and I’m just playing poorly.
I usually make a point of running Jinteki HQ with an Imp on the board, although I did fail to do that in the Nisei Division game. Since I’d seen one EMP on a previous run, I definitely should have gone back once I got an Imp.
I do both R&D and HQ multiaccess on a limited scale, and ramp it up if the Snares are in Archives. Maybe I’ll try going for the 2-token Medium a bit sooner.
Recurring Imps over Caches is a very good point. I was using my Caches as cheap mills to get extra accesses, but I ended up so rich in all of the games that I was definitely overdoing it.
I mostly just install my Mimic if I see it, not my other breakers.
I find that since I rarely run remotes, the Corp is usually on 4-6 points by the time R&D is dwindling. And at that point I’m usually getting pretty low on cards myself, which inevitably leads to a loss. That’s why I’ve been wondering if I should be checking remotes more aggressively. I noticed @mediohxcore checking Minh’s remotes way more often than I would have done in the first Finals game.
I think I’m just not good at playing against shell game decks. My best sustained runner performance came when I was playing Kate all spring and summer and had 1-2 DX and 0-1 Levy in my deck at all times. I don’t really want to be constrained to only playing Shaper or Andy with Feedback Filter, but people in this meta loooooooove their mindgames. Although I guess lots of Jinteki means lots of opportunity to get better at beating Jinteki decks.
Good feedback (pun intended) so far. Thanks.
I played Noise vs 2 PE decks at worlds, 1 was against 6th place finisher Kenjy, who beat me round 6 on table 12, and another player around table 30 the last round, who I beat. Both matches I checked unadvanced remotes religiously. Against Kenjy I lost my deck and flatlined to double EMP after shocking on RnD. I agree it is super tough as Noise, and running all the face-downs is not really the best solution all of the time IMO.
From my standpoint I feel wyldside is better than QT, based on how I run my noise deck (which was 5-2 on the day), so I can swing the 1 inf for FF, adding in hades shard vs clone chip/scavenge, but I am too stubborn.
I believe the change I made playing the second time was to djinn up a medium and just take 1-2 cards, 3 if the corp is below 4 credits, and do it as often as you can (wyldside helps restock your hand), so you can scout what is coming out of RnD, and you take the choice away from the corp on what they’re installing. I used parasites to trash away the ice on RnD, and keep the ice on HQ low. You can also imp-scout HQ with NA (be careful with NA though).
A good PE player understands the psychology, hand size, and board state of a runner and can exploit that by installing the correct traps/cards. Removing the player from the game seems like the best way, if a little risky. Also, vamp/siphon helps a ton, but that doesn’t jive with resources. That said, they could just dedicate all ice to RnD and make your life hell.
also demo running HQ to clear out BS like neural and scorched can be pretty good if you’re sure you won’t multi-access to death.
I’d bet Dan knew Minh had no Overwriters in his list, he checked a couple of Mushin cards right off the bat. Aggressively running unadvanced cards seems to be the smart play, gotta steal the HoKs before they can score
NZ Nationals Noise vs Jinteki: PE
There’s some commentary on the matchup there and it goes pretty well for Noise (me).
Also definitely this.
Yeah, you drew a lot less aggressively in that game than I do. I don’t play Wyldside, so for me, I think I should generally not play Inject in this matchup.
I kind of feel like sticking with Noise through Order & Chaos so that I have a higher level of comfort with Anarch play by then.
Played for the first time in months, Noise and Hilarious Euro Panic Button CI.
I feel like we need to have a national conversation about The Anarch Draw Problem as exemplified by Inject. Ye gods what a brutal damn card. Never enjoyed playing it, but I guess the credits/draws were alright in the end, mostly. That Aesop bastard is literally key and literally never likes showing up to the party on time.
Don’t do drugs, kiddos. Unless you’re running Anarch, in which case you kinda have to, especially if you’re not into clubbing at Wyldside anymore. It’s the worst card draw except for all the others in faction.
Oh, and Noise is really pretty good. Lost a couple only because I’m dumb and like to throw on the Viking hat, turn up the Noise, get my Inject and Stimhack on and make all manner of inadvisable runs.
Just check into a Hotel and forget all about it. Inject actually makes more sense with that card, because you’ll happily trash a couple progs to get your hotel chain rolling. Once you have them, you’re just holding Inject for when they run out, then Inject again. Seems mostly fine to me.
(and I really, really, really wish I had a time machine and the personal persuasion skills to make Lukas color Aesop red instead of green :D)
This really needs to be either a T-shirt, or at least a meme.
If this is your objective, play other red identities too. Noise is a very specific subset of what Anarch is about. I’d suggest Whiz, he’s extremely well poised against the meta - everyone has trashable shit nowadays, even Weyland since they all went BS with bouncable Adonises, Roots and whatnot.
Also, All Jacksons Must Be Trashed™!
If he dropped the ball anywhere it was with Darwin. Think about it!
Darwin costs 3. Atman costs 3. Darwin costs 1 per strength (slowly, and can be purged). Atman costs 1 per strength (ready to run at the get go). Darwin: 2c to break subroutine. Atman: 1c to break subroutine. What the hell!
This is relatively off topic, but I don’t care.
