Not playing 3 Aesops in Noise is like not playing 3 Desperado in criminal
Two influence is a pretty big difference in that comparison – but a Noise build like yours is absolutely reliant on getting it early so it’s a fair statement from that perspective.
It seems to me there may exist Noise lists that don’t need to see it as early, leveraging more bursty econ and draw to stay afloat early on. In that situation, Aesops is more of a mid game-late game inevitability.
That said, I trust your experience with Noise over mine
This is the list I’m running for now, and it seems to be doing well.
Mimic is in there because breaking Architect with Faust makes me cringe every time.
Corroder is there for Wraparounds, though it currently hasn’t been pulling much weight…
Knifed is there to make it easier to kill Eli.
Yes, there’s no Scorch defense unless you count Lamprey. I might end up putting a plascrete instead of the Corroder.
3 Imp is mandatory. Brilliant whenever I see them.
The 3rd Chronotype is possibly removable, but I feel like molasses until Wyldside is out, then I feel choked until I get the Chronotype. So I still want to see them as much as possible, and Faust lets me pitch the extras.
Levy is pulling its weight so far. It lets me aggressively throw cards away to Faust, knowing I can eventually get them back if needed. (Medium or D4V1D, for instance…)
3rd chronotype is almost never good, but you do have faust…I’d still rate medium #2 above chronotype 3, because you at least have use for medium after you discard it with faust if you need to. 100% on 3 imp, its possibly the best card in the game, for what its for, that isn’t called desperado. Surprised on not 3x datasucker if you don’t have Djinn too. I like lamprey, but its been underwhelming lately, you could possibly improve by doing:
I’m also not sold on levy, but I don’t have your rational for including it, so I’m not touching it. That said, the 3rd chip IMO is better than the levy, and then you could have the full 3 aesops which is super important too. Again, redundant copies are faust food.
Pawnshop has been such a great economy engine that i can not justify having less than three. Especially now with Faust included (i’ve been running Crypsis originally) where it is easy to dump 2nd and 3rd.
Also, would swap Chronotype and Knifed for 2 IHW to be protected from Scorch.
That brings the deck more or less to the list i’m playing atm.
Cut the Corroder for the second D4v1d. What ice are you breaking with Corroder? Wraparounds aren’t that oppressive, and 2 D4v1d is fine for that matchup.
Levy is not really needed, definitely worse than 3rd clone chip and aesops.
For me, also lampreys have been underperforming, so I’ll possibly cut those. And Schecherezade is now a liability with Marcus Batty everywhere, she probably goes away too.
I wouldn’t cut my Lamprey for anything. It gives you pretty great HQ threat which the deck is lacking somewhat without. Nothing like punishing a biotic play by putting them to 0 right after.
Imp is your HQ pressure. I was up to 2 lamprey 3 fester at one point, and it was a crazy good lock, but in the matchups its bad, its not that great, and better suited to ‘just win’ with medium and more money.
I dont know if shez is that bad post batty. I dont ever store loads of programs on it, normally cache or lamprey and those get sold with shez being sold the turn after. Probably a wasted deck slot but not a danger id say.
I would agree if Bako didn’t exist. The only way to get through it is Instaparasite, Faust, or Corroder. Of those, Corroder is the least taxing as I’d rather save my Clone Chips and Parasites for more problematic ice. You might be able to get away with it if you play Faust, but I wouldn’t give up my Corroder any time soon.
I’d say Faust is better than Corroder for Bako in a Noise party-pancakes deck. Same for even Ice wall. I’d rather have 2 D4vids to threaten Blue Sun more consistently and make Tollbooth remotes weaker.
That said, I’ve been considering Yog in place of Corroder a bit. Love da Yog, and could be a Parasite conserver. Problem is it’s too expensive to play early and often not impactful late.
Yeah probably, never been hugely excited about shez to be honest, i normally hand over 2-3 programs at most but thats over the course of shez being installed, they get sold pretty quickly and then shez itself gets sold. There could be a more effective econ card for that slot.
If we are worried about batty-trashing however id say thats not even the most likely threat, shutdown for 0 is a thing now NRE is out, im finding more and more shutdown for 1 is a good way of sniping clone chips out from under recursion happy anarchs. Shutdown basically is bigger pain than a psi game for a possible trash.
