Im sorry if im asking you to repeat yourself, maybe iv just not had enough coffee yet, but from what i just read you like yog.0 because it means saving parasites for things like…lotus field?
Confusion aside iv been having fun with yog in my val deck, maybe i should give it another shot in noise.
I was joking about lotus, but the rest stands. Enigma, quandary, tollbooth sometimes, but overall parasite can be reserved for other ice, and recursion saved for other viruses, if you want.
So I took the Levy out because it hadn’t really been performing very well.
Added back in the third Pawnshop and a Utopia Shard joined the Hades Shard. Running HQ, Imp’ing the ICE/Op you accessed, then popping the shard and going back in is a pretty brutal play.
Lamprey has routinely been pulling its weight, and gives me percentage against RP, letting me drain some money before running on Caprice servers.
The Corroder keeps flipping between useful and trash. I’ve taken it out most recently, I think I like D4V1D better.
I’ve never been convinced on Inject in Noise. Val, Quetzal, Max, Kim, Whizzard, Reina, sure. The problem with it in Noise is that he wants to be installing things nearly every turn, specifically Viruses if possible. He loves installing things and getting value from the mill of his ability. The other Anarchs are more precision-oriented where they get a specific rig and then go, whereas Noise tends to just spam a bunch of things and see what sticks. It’s ultimately the reason I’ve stuck with Party-Pancakes in Noise, because I need to draw so many cards, and 6 credits and two clicks for 12+ cards is the best rate I can find. (Inject is frequently 1 click for 2 cards and +1cr, since half the deck is programs.) I’d been running IHW before Peddler came out for the setup speed, not for Scorch protection. Peddler is nearly as good as IHW, since I usually only need one card out of my next three anyway.
Finally, I hear what people say about Aesop’s, but I’ve always had the most trouble when I don’t have Wyldside out. If I could pick one card to absolutely, positively have in every game, it would be Wyldside.
I can totally sympathize with the wyldside thing since cards are power for noise. You need to run 2-3 inject, inject makes finding those pieces sooner. Finding those pieces means finding other pieces faster. Binning viruses is fine, since you’ll sooner draw into deja and clone chip to utilize them, while digging for the wyldside and aesops.
Inject is alright for Noise. But, is it better than IHW or Peddler? I’m not sure if anyone is suggesting to run 2-3 Injects, 2-3 IHW, 2-3 Pedders, and 3 Wyldsides, but maybe 2 of each and 3x Wyldside is good. So you have to make a decision on which draw cards are best for Noise.
Peddler seems better because it saves you a click and a credit to install one of the pieces you were looking for, plus lets you pull off other shenanigans when you’re not looking for pieces. Downsides are you see one less card and there’s a small chance that you put 2-3 of your missing pieces on it.
IHW seems better because it protects against flatline and doesn’t reveal the cards. Downsides are you see one less card and slightly less economical in credits/cards. Plus if you’re running Faust, you want more cards in your grip, instead of a few more credits; it would totally suck if you were hoping to draw 3 cards, but ended up with 1-2 cards and 2-3 credits instead before you make a run.
Inject does get around the Milling Fallacy in long games because you often get down the last few cards in your stack by the end of the game, and a IHW would probably be better.
I’m trying out 3 IHW and 3 Peddler with Faust and it seems very good.
I don’t run IHW because I don’t play scorch protection, I’d much rather just imp, apply significant HQ pressure, which opens RnD to savagery. Also I run faust, but PancakeSyde is enough for me, since I don’t lean on faust, but rather use it as a backup…where wyldcakes +2 clicks to draw is often more than enough because of the other breakers. If you want 3x faust as your only breaker, then sure, I suppose 3 IHW is better. I just don’t need IHW that much, and if you’re not using it to double as scorch protection, its pretty poor quality draw.
I’ve been running IHW & Peddler. I feel like if you are running Faust, IHW just makes more sense. Maybe it is because I run more econ than most noise builds but seeing one less card and playing/fausting them all seems better to me.
Inject puts you in a win/win position while setting up because it either digs up combo pieces or gives you money for programs. However, later on when you have to turn around and spend money and clicks to pull those viruses back doesn’t that negate the advantage? Before Faust you could argue that you may have milled programs that you didn’t need but everything is Faust food now.
To be fair, my jokes are usually just for me to laugh at. The very best kind of joke. The joke is when someone reacts to my plainly bad advise, I laugh because they took me seriously. It’s a terrible habit, but oh well! I do mark the intentionally bad advice with italics though.
Don’t ever play Dominion with me, I’m chock full of bad-joke advise on card selection in that game XD
The point though is that you have secured the needed components like aesop’s, sacrificing slight inefficiency later, for board state now. Also, it lets you be more effectively reactive to the corp (having parasites and imps ready to go off deja), allowing you to smack down corp plays.
After more testing I’ve really been liking not relying on Pancakes combo, again I don’t run Faust. But I will say that even when I had Pancakes combo I ran 2-3 Inject just to get everything setup quickly. As has already been stated to death, not seeing Wyldside or Aesop’s early can be brutal.
I’m really liking the Clone Chip-like plays that come off of Peddler as well, it is one of the few cards (maybe the only card) that is installed and has hidden information from the Corp. It can really mess with opponents knowing if their server is secure or not, just because the answer breaker isn’t visible doesn’t mean it isn’t there, which to me is a really cool mental effect all on its own.
Played Noise in the Durham Regionals yesterday.
I only picked up one win.
One loss was super my fault, running Archives last click against facedown ICE, against NEH. It was a Gutenberg. Got tagged, died to Scorch + Archived Memories + Scorch the next turn. Sigh… Gutenberg on archives…?! Ah well, can’t complain, I shouldn’t have run.
The other losses were to Jackson, or else not milling enough agendas. The win I got, Noise did what he’s supposed to do, and when I popped Hades Shard, it actually hit agendas. Every other game, even if I got Hades Shard popped, it hit no agendas. The only flatline loss was the Gutenberg on Archives.
On the whole, it felt like I was too poor, I probably didn’t have enough econ…
Peddler performed all day long. There were some awkward peddles, but in general it always hit something that I wanted. Twice in the day, I hit my singleton Clot with a Peddler. That was fun. Was a credit short of installing it against Psychobeale, and he had exactly enough credits to do it after I Lamprey’d a few times.
I’d believe it! My runner game needs significant improvement.
If I didn’t draw a Hades Shard, I would run Archives about every fifth mill or so. If I did draw a Hades Shard, I would wait until something significant happened that indicated I needed to use it. (For example, if they Jackson to get a bunch of cards and then ditch a bunch into Archives, time to use Shard. In one game, HB at 5 points, and they install facedown in remote. I get them to only two credits, and they advance the facedown once and take two credits. I don’t get in on my turn, so I use the Shard because otherwise they’re winning next turn.)
The point is that you threaten all 3 central servers - archives with mills, rnd with medium and hq with imp/lamprey. All the time you are killing off their ice, negating them either ice or economy or agendas by milling. So they will be poor from not having enough economy cards and rezzing all the ice, they will be iceless because of all the ice you’ve parasited away and/or milled, and they will either stack agendas in hand or lose them to mills.
Your mission is to focus on all servers, making them rez all the ice, kill all the ice asap, and once you cannot get in one server, go on another.
Sometimes this won’t work - they’ll rez 2 architects and a lotus field, and then you go into heavy duty mode, go get your economy going like a boss, get that crypsis and run like you don’t care.
It’s NEVER about milling enough agendas to be able to hades shard or access them at once.
