In addition to just not being worth the influence, Hades Shard is a crutch for Noise-learners.
Honestly the best way to learn Noise is to play Anatomy of Anarchy Noise first, and then transition that mentality to standard Noise, just without the Account Siphons
I was doing all of this.
I run all the servers, because Faust lets me. Iāve played a passive Noise before, and Iām definitely an aggressive and active Noise now. And no, Iām not accessing all agendas at once with Shard. I use it if Iām about to lose the game, as an āOh hey, letās see what my random accesses have turned up right before I get hit by the second scorch⦠Oh look, I win now!ā I attacked butcherās HQ whenever I could find my Imp (who hated to show up against NEH for some reasonā¦) trying to get rid of the Midseason. Even dug myself out from under a Midseason without dying.
Both HB games I lost they had an early Architect on R&D. Mimic is in the deck to deal with that, because Faust doesnāt like breaking it. For Lotus Field I have a singleton Spooned because nothing else gets rid of it, and itās a big blow to their economy, even if I can Faust through it for only two cards.
What does your decklist look like? You might want to try a version without Hades Shard; I think @pacer is the only one around here who doesnāt prefer 3x Clone Chips. I remember when I first started playing Noise, I had Hades Shard in my deck, and it made me play substantially worse, because I was too focused on sniping agendas out of archives and playing around Jackson. These days, I only run archives when Iām building up a Datasucker, or I really donāt have anything else worthwhile to do with my last click. I just take it as it comes, and if that means they sometimes get to Jackson some points back, so it goes.
My decklist, for reference:
HB should be your easiest matchup, because Imp deals with their assets, NEXT ice is Parasite food, and D4v1d beats Turing or other random big ice. Architect is really annoying, so I feel you there, but even if you canāt run on R&D, it should be hard for them to maintain an economy and a scoring remote that you canāt get into. What did the board look like in these games?
Decklist I ran: Deckbuilder Ā· NetrunnerDB
I find Clone Chips to be mostly useful for Parasite mid-run, but Faust helps so that itās a very rare situation where I actually need that effect. Faust can usually protect me from any ICE thatās rezzed mid-run and then I can parasite it later. Iād tried the other way, 2x Aesop and 3x Clone Chip, and I needed to see Aesops, and only wanted to see Clone Chip.
Spooned is because breaking Lotus Field gets tiring after a while.
The Yog was an experiment, and it was useful in one matchup on the day, and didnāt see it in most, and got pitched to Faust once or twice. The theory goes that itās good to have against Quandary/Enigma so that I can pay 5 and get permanent Parasite on all small Code Gates. The time it worked he had a Quandary rezzed, and it turned out he pitched a pair of Enigma to Archives during the game after I installed the Yog. Iām āmehā on this one, and can be convinced otherwise I think.
Utopia Shard pulled its weight, being another reason to hit HQ and get value off it. It saved me from a Scorch kill once, and put agendas in the bin another time.
I keep waffling on the Daily Casts, and ultimately decided to run all 3 because I kept having a hard time with money. Lamprey and Datasucker at 2x has never been a problem; Iāve always had them available if I wanted them out.
Yes, Imp does kill Eve Campaign. It doesnāt do so well when a server has a rezzed (via OAI) Wotan on it. The other HB had an Ichi-Tollbooth-Turing Ash server. I broke in once with David and parasited the Ichi, hit the Ash without enough money. The problem against HB both times was drawing in the wrong order. The first game, I had an opener of Peddler - Chronotype - Wyldside - Cache - Deja Vu. Peddler install gives me Aesops/Grimoire/Cache for choices. I choose the Aesops. The other Grimoire is on the literal bottom of my deck, so all game long Iām juggling memory. (Faust+Mimic+Sucker was preferred permanent rig, because of R&D Architect. Imp/Lamprey/Parasite was the fourth mem.) The other HB game took me too long to find an Imp to stop their economy rolling, so they got most of their econ rolling and ICE rezzed. The last one Noise did what heās supposed to and I ate his econ, his hand, and his deck to get 7 points relatively quickly.
Running Archives last click got me killed one game, lol. Super my fault, though, no breakers and he had unrezzed ICE. It was a Gutenberg. Died to meat damage next turn.
This is my fear for Peddler. Inject gives you ALL the crucial cards, not just one of them. If I get a wyldside/aesops with pancakes on a peddler, itās quite possible that I donāt see another pancakes for a long timeā¦
Peddler gains a lot of value when you donāt use it immediately. Iāve been messing with a (Tier 2) Quetzal deck that runs Inject and Peddler. What I tend to do is save Peddler until the mid-game, when I have a good idea what it might find or I know what I have drawn/what recursion I have. That deck uses a fair number of events, so itās good to put some thought into when you play it.
When to peddler depends soley on what you have and what you need. Very often, because of how Noise works, playing right away is crucial because finding wyldside and aesops is so important. Finding chronotype is nice, but not necessaryā¦and getting caches accessible are probably next most important WRT econ/engine (this ignores parasucker, which is also a priority). Thus, I find that peddler is very often 95% play right away within the first 5 turns, 80% play mid game, and trash without use late game, unless you STILL havenāt found your stuff, so like 20%. Total ballpark, but kind of gives you a flavor for how I do it.
Thereās been one time where I specifically withheld Peddler: I already had my pancakes combo and workshop rolling, and I had all three Parasites in the heap, but I had only seen one Deja Vu. At this point, I want to see my Dejas, and donāt particularly want to get anything else right away.
Otherwise I jam it asap just to get the options up, so I know what I can do in the future. Itās like a Diesel that you donāt have to discard down to handsize at the end of the turn.
Oh, I suppose I didnāt play a peddler out immediately when I was floating tags from a Midseasonā¦
Then you could always hold off in trashing the peddler until you got one of the two pieces you were missing, so that the last piece was what you need on peddler. I.e., you have Aesops in play, with wyldside+pancakes on a peddler, you just wait until you get either a wyldeside or a pancakes, and then you pull whichever one you didnāt draw off the peddler.
I think thatās selling it a bit short. The third Clone Chip isnāt going to do anything mind-blowing, sure, but itāll always get something nice for you: another Parasite (and a mill), another Imp (and a mill), bring back a breaker lost to Peddler/Faust, etc. I like it, anyway.
Sounds like a rough couple of games. I have absolutely no idea what you do vs. OAI-Wotan as Noise. Hahaā¦Iām glad that didnāt happen to me.
I can definitely imagine how you could fall behind with a bad draw vs. an HB with a really good draw, although I didnāt see the game. I think you were already moving in this direction, but Iād cut the Yog.0 for a second Mimic if you expect to face multiple HB again; Architect is a butt.
I was happy when I saw this list, as itās similar to what I would have if I were to update mine for Faust and Peddler. 3x Lamprey is the jam and Iām glad you won with it
I was about to mention Schez, but I see someone on NRDB already did that for me. I like Schez better than Daily Casts since casts is a tempo-hit for 3 turns while Schez gets going immediately. Maybe I need to re-evaluate Casts in the world of Peddler though, since that certainly makes it a little better.
Parasite, I guess? Or run 2 D4V1Ds. High strength 4 sub ICE is a neat blind spot for Anarch right now; I wonder if Red Coats might do pretty well in the current meta against Red everywhere.
My only losses with were to @Webster playing NEH FA and to a HBFA where I didnāt see a Mimic or Wyldside the whole game and he had an incredible start including at least 2 Architects. Ironically a very similar build of Noise (+1 Corroder, -1 Mimic) knocked me out of top 8. Of all the regionals Iāve played in this build ran the best. I beat 2 RP, 1 CI, 2 NEH FA, and 1 Butcher Shop.
On the topic of Hades Shard, it really does a lot more than sneak a win against an unsuspecting opponent. That being said, it isnāt for everyone. You canāt rely on it for the game but you can use it as a tool to help win. It gets around Midseason, puts pressure on Jacksons, allows a chance to win if you get locked out, and in conjunction with Utopia Shard can put pressure on HQ. I recommend playing with it. I also recommend never less than 3 Imps, 3 Wyldside, or 3 Aesops. I never missed Yog all day, didnāt really miss Corroder either. Mimic is necessary I believe. I canāt find room for Inject or Sure Gamble. Peddler was amazing all day. Once for a surprise Clot but mostly for a quicker cheaper set up time.
For me, I eventually got in with D4v1d, breaking three subroutines, leaving the āETR unless ⦠trash 1 programā. I trashed D4v1d. And then Ash made me go away and come back later, as I expected. Honestly my problems were summed up with āWhere is my damn Imp?ā pretty much all day.
I used the following list the first time I played Noise in a tournament (only a 11 player game night), I am used to playing Kate, Andy, and Gabe most of the time.
Noise: Hacker Extraordinaire
Program (17)
3x Cache ā¢ā¢ā¢
2x D4v1d
3x Datasucker
3x Imp
1x Incubator
2x Medium
3x Parasite
15 influence spent (max 15)
45 cards (min 45)
Cards up to The Underway
So far I like the list a lot one thing that kinda bothers me is the economy, thatās why I go with 3 Daily Casts which I donāt really like a lot but just swapping them for Lampreys seemed a bit over the top, since there is not a lot of economy once I cut the Daily Casts. The breaker suite was working fine but I think a 2nd Faust is probably the way forward. I really like the way you can abuse Fausts ability to get a nice program in archives to use for a Clone Chip, can be a big surprise for the corp. I really like Stimhack in the list and in one game I was able to make a Stimhack on HQ -> install Utopia from hand -> install Hades from Street Peddler and use both to secure the win.
I have 2 lampreys, 2 mediums and 2 clot. Iāve went down to 1 schehe, probably going to drop her completely since atm I run 47 cards (I know! ) . I donāt have any corroders, since barriers are prime target for parasite or usually handled by david for 1 token (firewall, wraparound). 1 mimic for those pesky architects. Faust is bonkers, I love it to bits. Easy replacement from Crypsis. Wyldside fuels it so well.
I donāt play daily casts, but I do play cyberfeeders.
Also, I donāt have Iāve had worse, but pack a single Plascrete.
Iāve been doing really well with this (and previous incarnation with injects and crypsis instead of peddler and faust). I think still undefeated in SHL with Noise, and doing very well in local tournaments as well.
