Brothers of the Noise church, our lord and savior brought home a win in Plano, TX. Hail noise!
Three in the top 8 and a couple more sniffing the cut if I remember right!
How many of them were running Faust?
My feeling is that Faust is going to be looked back on as one of the strongest cards in the cycle. I still donāt know what to do to play against it, aside from play Jinteki PE (and Faust decks tend to play Levy, so thatās not so great either).
Multi sub ice? The thing with Faust is that you canāt go on breaking stuff all the time, itās super awesome to break stuff occasionally. Which is EXACTLY what Noise needs
You canāt do a crazy criminal style running economy, but if you can cheaply break everything on all the runs you do need to make, itās really hard to do any kind of a taxing server. I think Caprice is probably the best counter, since if your server sucks enough theyāll have to drop a lot of cards to get through. Maybe some kind of toothy Jinteki that has a scoring out plan but also packs some murder? Ronin behind Turing would be quite strong against Faust decks (though it would be D4V1Dable. ARGH!).
IG is really well positioned against Faust right now. Strong ice and a solid scoring plan backed up by pretty solid net damage potential. I think itās probably Faustās worst matchup.
Thatās a good point. I think once Film Critic comes out (Yellow Flash is my current anti-Faust plan, since itās ICE agnostic and really just cares about money, which Faust decks might not be running as much of. It gets hosed by Film Critic, though) Iām either going to try Argus or IG for me āScrew you, Iām taxing your life not your money!ā plan. Argus gets hurt a bit by Film Critic too, unfortunately. Then again, so does IG since TFP doesnāt keep your RnD as safe as it otherwise would.
Yeah, I think running Snatch and Grab is going to be mandatory for both those decks once we see Film Critic.
Or Contract Killer
Is anyone else really looking forward to Trope in the next pack? I know I see the bottom of my deck in almost all of my games, and being able to throw back all of your clone chips/deja vus/more viruses depending on when you saw trope seems really good. Even if it only sits for 3 turns, getting all of your clone chips back seems crazy strong.
Canāt find the slots for it, its a nice to have that ranks below other things IMO.
Iād love to be proven wrong though.
I think itās totally worth dropping 1 Deja Vu for 1 copy of Trope. I think the recursion provided by Trope is going to be stronger just for being able to recur other recursion.
I would even cut a casts. Trope is a good card and I was down to my last 5 cards nearly every game that wasnāt agenda flood. Definitely canāt play like @kiv though and run only 1x optional Grimoire with Trope. Faust and Trope can quickly choke out your MU without it. Itās scary to say that Noise may have a competitive shell comprised of 43 ārequiredā cards, depending on how you value Lamprey or Mimic it can be a tad more open.
A fellow Noise in top 8 was completely decked against NEH Fastro and had to squeeze out a win clicking through Eli, 1x Trope wouldāve made that situation never happen. It was a crazy game and the Peddlers mustāve been brutally bad luck for Noise in that one.
EDIT: On second thought, I donāt know if Trope would be worthwhile versus other big 1-ofs. Trope is the safe option, and would definitely make the PE/IG matchup much better if those decks come back into style. Otherwise I would rather have a Vamp Wanton or Immolation, because by the end of the deck Noise is sitting on 15+ credits that have no internal outlet outside Corroder.
The only problem I can see with Trope is slowing down the deckās tempo.
I have noticed that I need to play quickly. Simultaneously applying early pressure and getting your rig up is a hard task, and takes a lot of support. Peddler is an excellent card for both of these tasks, and I seek cards that reinforce this. Trope may be good if you go heavy into Faust usage, but I have found that itās best to win before decking yourself.
Just ask yourself, āDo I want to see Trope in my opening hand?ā
I could see Trope as a meta card against damage that you can otherwise pawn for $2 net, but itās pretty rare for me to need its effect in normal play and Iād rather not have it clogging up my board or hand early on.
Iām probably just going to test it in MaxX instead of Levy as a way to free up influence to hit harder on the first pass through the deck. Itās going to be pretty useful in MaxX when you can just put the breaker or Grimoire or Legwork you need into your (empty) stack.
Every single one.
I like 1 lamprey. It is a great utility card to provide some econ denial. It only came up in one match vs RP where I clone chipped it in to take away their last 3 credits so they couldnāt bounce back with a Celebrity Gift. I guess I would think about it similar to Medium. Excellent to be in the bin, for recursion on successful access.
I thought about having more Mediums so it could be drawn. I got lucky with one in a opening hand for a opening 2 turn dig for 5 pts.
I never played against Fast Advance all day, so I do not know if my 1 of would be enough.
Scheherazade is really good. I think of it as a āprepaidā for installs, except ALL installs are 1 less. Imps for 1, Mediums for 2. Bonkers! There was some power shutdown, but as rule of thumb I donāt put my breakers on it, unless I know I will use up all my David tokens.
I would hate to have to use David counters against Wraparound for the entire game. Yes, its good clutch play if need be, but David is better used for remote pressure.
Totally agree. Faust is truly bonkers, especially in Noise. I played against a Blue Sun Grail deck, and once Faust came out, Grail lost all Gear check potential. You could say the multi-sub ability of Grail is taxing for Faust, but I countered that with Imp runs to HQ, and having Corroder, Mimic out early.
I am neutral on Daily Cast as a staple include.
Cyberfeeders have their issues, but could be pretty sweet with Peddler discount. Many have talked about the pros/cons, but I found them almost too slow for my liking. Scheherazade has a lower barrier entry to play, and is for every install.
People have this illusion that Noise is a slow rig builder, but if you can catch them off guard with early game pressure, being up 2-4 points early gives you potentially some time to slow down a tad and get a solid rig up and running for the final push.
Lets all pretend weāre cutting the 3 daily casts, what do you put in its place? 2 hacktivist 1 medium? Iāve got a wild hair to try 2 human first in my 2 slots (I only run 2 DC)
Without a doubt, 3x Spoilers. This rage-inducing card is exactly what modern Noise wants.
- Aesops synergy
- 1c Cheap
- Playable in the ālife is sufferingā scenario (no Aesops, no Wyldside) to have a visible impact on Corps.
- Brutal stacking with Noiseās ability
I would probably put in 1x Inject to compensate for the increased reliance on finding the two important resources.
I looked at it for a second, I dismissed it. I canāt imagine it being that great. Iād rather have a 1 cost card that give me money rather than a random mill. The credits gained can be put into installing a virus that gets a mill and advances my board state. Iām open to testing it thoughā¦I mean, why not?
