Novice impressions of Corp versus Runner

Red Coats is certainly playable in the current meta. It’s probably not quite as good as others but no one’s going to think you’re crazy for playing it. Mainly I would suggest playing the deck you are more comfortable with at the time of the tourney, if you can get enough practice in between now and then to get comfortable with Red Coats, go ahead and play it. If you don’t think so and you’re still having some fun with RP, you should probably play that.

Take whichever deck you think you’ll enjoy playing the most. Even if it’s uncompetitive nonsense. There’s no shame in taking a pet deck or a multiple store champ winning net deck. Remember you’ll have to play 5-10 games with it. So take something that gives you joy.

One concern is timing - if this is post hollywood, Film critic is likely to be around.

One thing I would check is to see if this area has a social media presence, so you could ask them directly about meta.

Thanks guys! What are the implications of Film Critic?

TFP is much, MUCH easier to steal. NAPD’s payment can be deferred (and changed to two clicks) and Currents get better.

For the Corp, or the runner? The Corp, right?

Corp currents actually get worse for the runner, because you’re not stealing an agenda using Film Critic, so it hangs around even when you add it to your score area.

As has been mentioned, TFP and NAPD become easier to steal, but FC also hoses Midseasons, since you’re never stealing an agenda. Likely, Butcher decks will switch to a SEA Source build instead, if FC makes a big enough splash (and I very much doubt that it won’t).

Yeah, for the corp. However, this is only true if the runner has reason to use film critic (which they do versus RP). Although, as knock on effect, it might be a good idea to run currents and film critic together if the corps take this path.

I think I’ve played a lot of crazy Corp games against you, I think the runner has an easier time against the best Corp decks. Could be wrong though, all our games are wicked fun though

Yesterday was a bad day for the Red Coats with 3 losses out of 3 games. We were unbeaten prior to that!

I lost a close game against Chaos Theory- she managed to scoop up two 3-point agendas early with a Maker’s Eye dig. Although the game was close thereafter, I (inevitably?) succumbed to another score much later on.

In another game I again came up against 3 x Au Revoir and a Snitch. Although I knew what it could do, it was still not easy to counter. I tend to agree with my opponent who noted that this is perhaps an undervalued economic arrangement.

Finally, I got hammered by Nasir- he slowly built a huge rig including 6 recurring credits, meaning that I couldn’t stop him from running anywhere in the late game. He ended up assaulting R&D over and over again with two R&D Interfaces. I think I should have played faster in that game and got some scores out earlier. But, since I’d never played against this ID before, I didn’t know what to expect

It seems that the Red Coats really need to prioritize the defense of R&D to avoid variance losses.

Despite these losses, we will fight back!

Reflection on your games is a crucial part of improving, as is playing in a tournament setting (so good work on both of those!). Hope you had a great time.

Very much so. RP has the luxury of a especially sturdy R&D (at least as far as agenda theft goes) so they can play a bit more aggressively.

Here’s my current Red Coats deck (adjusted based on last night’s play but not yet tested):

I really like Caprice combined with Ash, so much so that I took out 2 Tollbooths to make room for the influence. Excalibur also comes in to help defend the scoring server (same use as in Jinteki RP). Biotic Labor is primarily there to help disguise the 5-pointer agendas as NAPDs. I also threw in a Wotan to potentially rez with a Priority Requisition. Code Gates are reduced in favor of more Barriers.

Any observations/suggestions guys?

You need to either publish the list or set your private lists to visible on netrunnerdb. I can’t see that deck.

Done (I think), sorry pal!

Alternatively, you can set all your decklists to be accessible via direct link sharing - “Edit Account” -> “Share your decks”.

(it’s still better to publish them, for long-term availability, the direct link stuff is just better for IM decklist teching sessions and such - as you update the deck, your partner can just hit refresh and see the new version)

Thanks guys, I’ve done that:

Edit: the above link has been disabled. There is another link further down the thread.

You have too little money, only 8 cards, especially comparing to the cost of your ICEs.
