Official Rules Question Thread

Good point. I don’t really know if peeking at a card before a shuffle is a big deal. The only thing I can think of is decksize means it becomes easier to manipulate card placement, but I don’t know anyone who would do that. Cards are less valuable in ANR than in Mtg because we can click to draw. But if a player was worried about information gained, they could always shuffle the opp’s deck.

When the “Glenn Stationgate” arised Lukas made a this ruling :

If a card tells you how to host on it, then that is a hosting restriction and you cannot host on it another way.

But it was not included in the latest FAQ. So is it still legit ?
This may be important for Worlds Plaza. Can I install a Snare on WP without using its click ability ?

Please don’t dodge the first question by saying that the ruling is for “hosting” and WP says “install”. :innocent:
After all, what we have in the FAQ is that :

The state of hosting is distinct (but not exclusive from) the state of installing. Most cards are hosted on another card when they are installed.

So I’m pretty sure that when WP says “install on WP” it means “install and host”.

Does anyone know what happens to currents if you Apocalypse? I’m sure this has already been cleared up but I can’t find an answer I’m afraid.

Apocalypse only affect installed cards. Current are not installed.

Thanks!

Think of it this way: installing is the action. Hosting is a card’s ability to have cards placed on it. A card can be hosted but not installed (and thus not active, re: personal workshop) or it can be hosted and installed (and active, re: world’s plaza). It depends on the card how hosting works.

Hey if you 24/7 a Breaking News do the tags go away in the unlikely event the runner is still alive? It says “when the turn you scored Breaking News ends”

They stay.

Thought so, just making sure.

I lost a tournament game that way. @cranked fired off his combo and I clone chipped a program in as Geist to give me 6 cards. He cussed and passed the turn and then on my turn like an idiot I forgot to clear the 2 tags, and he promptly murdered me.

I searched and couldn’t find an answer, Does Sync’s ability to trash a resource for 2 credit reduced cost count as a card ability to counter WNP. I know that it has been ruled that the ID card is a card in play as Tennin can place advancements on it. Has there been a ruling on this? What does the not through a card ability refer to on Sync’s text? Is that in reference to the runner or the corp?

no

“Not through a card ability” is to clarify that “when spending a click to trash a resource” specifically refers to the “click, 2 credits: trash a resource” corp action built into the game. So if there were some asset with the ability “10 credits: trash a resource”, then Sync’s cost reduction would not apply to it (in the same way that Wireless Net Pavilion doesn’t change the cost of Freelancer).

“Not through a card ability” on SYNC refers to exactly the same thing as on Wireless Net Pavillion. SYNC doesn’t introduce a card-based resource-trashing ability, it simply modifies the cost of the basic action. With both in play, the basic action cost (2 credits, click) is reduced by 2 credits (becoming just click). Then an additional cost of two credits must be paid due to Wireless Net Pavillion. In essence, you’re back where you started.*

*In the absence of any third-party effect that distinguishes between base costs and additional costs. Not sure any relevant ones exist at the minute.

Inspired by talk of Sacrificial Clone in another thread, what happens when your Sacrificial Clone runs into a Snare! for you?

Sacrificial Clone is a prevent damage effect that also says “remove all tags”. Snare! gives you net damage and a tag seemingly simultaneously (like the credits and tags from Account Siphon). So when you trigger Sacrificial Clone to prevent the net damage, does the tag that is simultaneously resolving at the same time get removed? Is it “there” to get removed, since Sacrificial Clone is literally happening at the same instant that the tag is coming into existence?

No. Prevention happens before resolution.

I wanted to verify we played this situation correctly:

Corp has scored House of Knives:

Hosted agenda counter: Do 1 net damage. Use this ability only during a run and only once per run.

Runner has Snitch:

Once per run, you may expose an unrezzed piece of ice when you approach it. You may then jack out.

Looking at the timing structure of a run, it seems like the first paid ability window is during approach. If the runner runs, will they have an opportunity to use Snitch and jack out before the corp has the ability to use HoK?

Correct.

Snitch is a cool Golden Rule card
