Official Tournament Winning Decklists Page

@Calimsha @Ajar

I understand that you guys are trying to preserve the tournament scene (or whatever you’re doing). Post them up or don’t, it really makes no difference to me.

Despite your poo-pooing and the restriction at the tournament, 61 players from our community participated. Sorry you couldn’t be there to enjoy the fun.

As the winner of the tournament when you guys are going to every thread and downplaying the relevance of the tournament it feels personal. Maybe you didn’t mean it as personal, but I fought tooth and nail to win that tournament against good players who were trying to do the same despite deck restrictions that we didn’t create. Maybe have some respect for the people who went and had fun and played their asses off and just say nothing if a similar situation comes up again.

I specifically stated that the restriction in no way implied that this wasn’t a high-level tournament. That said, I was actually very surprised you didn’t mention the restriction yourself when you posted your decklists – it’s not a question of downplaying the result, it’s a question of providing necessary context for the result. A meta change as big as restricting AstroScript is very relevant when attempting to interpret the results.

This tournament was a different meta than one played under the standard rules. That doesn’t make it more challenging or less challenging, lots of people are still good at playing Netrunner regardless of which cards are allowed. The point is that these winning lists aren’t from the same meta than the other winning lists from tournaments played during this data pack window. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t go on the decklists page; I asked the question because I honestly don’t know what the right way to handle it is. I don’t think they can just go under The Source data pack category, but it seems like there should be some way to make it work.

I also want to be clear that I never pooh-pooed the restriction. I’m sorry if you think I did and if you think I’m belittling your win because it came in a different meta. I didn’t intend to do that, but I do think it’s extremely important for people looking at the winning lists to understand the meta in which they appeared. It’s much the same as looking at historical decklists from the current winning lists page – you need the context to interpret the results.

Finally, I’m not opposed to modified rules tournaments. I would have done this one differently – if you look back to when the tournament was announced you’ll see that I actually suggested an alternative – but I wasn’t the organizer and everything I’ve seen suggests they threw a fantastic event. Great prize support (one-upping FFG in a big way), great turnout, everyone talks about it like it was a ton of fun. Which is great for the game, and I’m glad it’s gotten big enough that stuff like this is starting to happen.

Oh, right, one more thing: congratulations on your win!

Maybe the best way to handle it is to treat it like another datapack. Just like the datapack headings specify the rules in place at the time, you could have:

The Source (Astroscript restricted in tournament rules)

So it appears separate from the rest. It’s not neat, since I’m not sure how many other tournaments will include that same restriction, but it seems the cleanest way of viewing it.

That makes sense. I’d been thinking about a variant rules tournament category or something, but it’s better to have it at the right place in time if we can.

Care to share? Especially the NEH list!

It’s only fair, since I shamelessly stole both lists.

This deck, surprisingly enough, is even killing people who know the score. So far I’ve only lost to massive agenda flood and to @Calimsha in a close game, otherwise I either score out around the threat of DRT or get a Snare + DRT kill when a Runner gets reckless or desperate. I’ve since made a slight tweak to this list - removing Tollbooth and Archived for 2x Executive Boot Camp. We’ll see if that’s better or worse, but to this point the biggest thing slowing the deck down has been ensuring I have a DRT on hand when I’m ready to threaten.

I may or may not keep playing it after O&C, because I think a lot of people will be playing Anarch and almost all of them will be packing Imp.

I don’t doubt it’s a great achievement - plus you got some awesome loot! Sorry for coming across as dismissive. My only point was that if tournament winning deck-lists are there to showcase the current meta, then next to this decklist it should be explained clearly what the meta was.

Anyway, congrats and I’m v. jelly of the alt-arts.

Since the ruling was in favour of special tournament results getting posted, I’m going to put up one here from 2 weeks ago. It was our city’s largest attendance at an event and highly promoted in our local area, so I’d like to post it up here for the glory! I’ll write how it was restricted after the decklists…

How this tournament was different was that it was a double elimination tournament straight from the opening round. This was the conclusion of a League, where people’s standings in the League determined their seedings. It was still open to the public. People who did not attend were considered to have zero prestige (which, aside for a few earlier match-ups of a few strong players vs other strong players who never participated in the league, didn’t impact very much). Also proxies were permitted, so long as the proxies were of high quality and contained all of the card’s information.

Congrats to Nick for taking the MEGA BOWL!

That’s awesome, and it’s great to see Netrunner going on in my home province! My league is doing a similar double elim tournament for the top 8 after the 10-week league concludes.

Proxies for existing cards (I.e. I only own 1 SanSan so I’ll proxy 2 more) or were y’all going as far as to proxy for unreleased spoiled cards? I assume the first since I don’t see any unreleased cards in your deck, but the second would be crazy interesting.

Using a different tournament format is completely different from using a different card pool. Don’t think they should be treated the same and both probably would need to be looked at in a case by case basis. (unless there is an overwhelming amount of them, which is currently not the case)

Oh, right on!

We only had 5 games in the league - it was supposed to be 6, but some scheduling and projected attendance mishaps caused us to cut one… One for every datapack! The store sponsored our event, giving the datapack to the winner. The Winner of the MEGA BOWL will get a free copy of Order and Chaos once available. (Plus a whole bunch of other prizes that I managed to scrape together… Nothing to the scale of ChiLo Grudge Match’s awesome prize pool… But along the same vein.)

For Felik’s question, yeah legal cardpool cards only. I wanted to let people have that 3rd Desperado, and be able to bring their best possible decks to the MEGA BOWL, not being restricted by only owning half of the cards. One guy did this to great effect and managed to get 3rd place with a Corp deck that was 33% proxies. (Didn’t play his runner, but I assume it was a similar story!)

Restricting APP to 1 per deck is pretty lame and makes the competitive level of that whole event suspect IMO.

I had my semifinal match recorded against a great Leela Patel Deck.

They will be uploaded to youtube in a few days, we are trying to get me an the other players to commentate on them.

Unfortunately, I don’ t think we recorded my match against Timmy’s Industrial genomics deck .

If I remember correctly, you had already been a cheeky git, and dumped a Project Wotan into archives. If you hadn’t done that, you would have been fine :stuck_out_tongue: And you won the trip to worlds in the end, didn’t you?

Iain Reid also definitely learned his lesson. He played security testing prefectly this weekend by moving his Security testing marker back from the server to security testing every single turn.

I sort of agree. One of the main reasons to include data about winning decks, etc, is because other people want to see how people win in the current meta. If you restrict astro, it makes it a different meta. On one hand, it’s hard to call it ‘competitive level’ because people are playing a slightly different game than the rest of the ‘competitive level’, but on the other hand, people were trying their best to win and it was a big tournament.

Obvious solution is to post it with a lot of asterisks and maybe a parenthetical note in the title. Grats on the win @DJhedgehog!

I don’t see how restricting a big source of variance (and therefore potentially serious negator of skill differences) decreases the competitive level of a tournament. Unless the axis of competition is: who gets the AsPP’s first?

Even then, though, isn’t it harder to get just ONE Astro than three? I would thus assess the competitive level of this tournament as approximately triple that of weaker, full-Astro, metas…

EDIT: for embarrassing grammatical error that I will now try to play off as a typo.
