The Geist Zeitgeist

Replicator+Bazaar+spyCam is bananas. This deck is really fun and combines early pressure (a few spy cameras threaten R&D sniping, Account siphon pressures HQ, Inside Job pressures single-iced servers), strong econ (powered by tech traders, tech writer, disposable breakers) and a crushing late game (infinite money, permanent breakers, risk-free R&D lock, HQ multi-access). It can sustain an insane amount of damage and is immune to Genetics Pavilion (draw on the corp turn).

Still tweaking it, might want to get in a hostage to help TT hit the board faster.

I don’t know about Replicator, I guess to be efficient you’d require more cheap hardware than Spy cameras only. Atm I am trying out this

So far it seemed alright.

That’s crazy, go 6 Spy Camera and 46 cards. You know you want to.

I love the Freedom Through Equality - I think that card is a great complement to Spy Camera, and it kicks GFI decks right in the junk.

FTE is a great idea. Raymond flint + off-campus + geist is also really cool.

I was definitely torn between replicator + bazaar with extra hardware or off-campus + connections. There’s not enough slots to go all-in on both of them. After the buzz of installing all this stuff wears off, I’ll try out OCA again, as I think it helps the setup speed immensely.

Thanks for sharing the list! Congrats on the win!

It’s not my deck. Just sharing.

cool deck. i’ve been trying to make Replicator / Bazaar a thing. my idea was something out of Shaper with the NetChips as well, since Spy Camera would be the only thing that cost any influence, and it can install for 0c
i love Geist of course, so i’ll try out something like this

Apologies to your family, still fine-tuning. I do miss having an early TW sometimes, and I’m almost never sad to see a fall guy.

I could probably get rid of the PolOp (just added it recently), though I really hate caprice and it gives you a way to take out jackson before a spycam run. The HQIs are a recent addition that I like, but could maybe be a single legwork and a free slot. I have never played with demo run before and thought it might have enough synergy with HQI and spy cam to be interesting.

Again, tell your family that I’m sorry and that I miss them dearly

I tried Rebirthing Andy to Geist (using a spy cam/replicator/bazaar deck like above) last night. The hope was that since the deck has a few moving pieces, you had a better chance of setting up your engine right off the bat and could rebirth within the first few turns. It went…pretty poorly.

While I was able to set up tech traders/replicator/spy cams very quickly, you are still not super-likely to get rebirth in your opening hand (20% per opening, 36% with a mulligan). I think that maybe if you could leverage 6 spy-cam + a few secondary HW installs to reshuffle if rebirth’s not on top, you could work something out. I probably missed some chances to repli-shuffle and set that up, so I’m going to keep experimenting with it.

Stop using Replicator, you’re going to janky with the jank. If you draw all 5 spy cams, you paid an entire influence for a 1 credit discount on a quality time that doesn’t work if you’ve already drawn too many spy cams. It’s a little better than that, but, it’s not great.

If Geist is involved, just draw your whole deck with geistliness.

I tried my Geist deck with rebirth and found a similar problem. Not impressed but very open to someone figuring out something good.

I put in about 4 games with it and it seemed promising, I switched back over to my old-school Andy list to practice for an imminent event though. 1x Bazaar, yoloing for the Rebirth. J.net testing for it is a huge pain because Rebirth isn’t implemented and Hostage OCA is a pain.

On first take it seems like an awful idea to be that heavily dependent on a 1x, but if you’ve played some Tech Trader Geist you realize you put some trash abilities on hold until you get more Tech Traders installed later, so it’s not hard to put them on hold because you’re waiting on Tech Traders and because you’re waiting on… Geist.

you can pry replicator from my cold dead hands, sir

i feel like Rebirth is bad for Geist, period

you really want a good stuff crim/anarch/shaper ID that morphs into another good stuff ID (and since you make the choice when you play the event, you probably want to keep your options open). anything too specialised, and it won’t work.

Geist really needs to be active the whole game to be worth it. you build a Geist deck by throwing in a million trashable effects that you would rarely consider in many other decks.
Rebirth in a Geist deck with an Andromeda ID is basically getting 4 extra draws at the start of the game at the cost of being able to draw every time you use a trash ability until you can actually find that nontutorable event that becomes all the more difficult to find because you’re not Geist

The fact that Rebirth is really bad in Geist probably indicates why Geist isn’t tearing up the tournament scene - the trash effects available just aren’t powerful enough for their cost (yet) to justify playing outside of Geist.

I think it’s less about the trash effects not being powerful enough on their own and more about Geist having an ID ability that you build a deck around. After all, Noise traditionally does well enough in tournaments, but you would almost never want to Rebirth into/out of Noise, just because his ID dictates your deck composition and game plan so hard. With Geist, you end up playing cards that you just wouldn’t want in other IDs (Fall Guy, Forger, etc), similarly to how Noise plays things like Lamprey that you almost never see out of Noise.

Well, maybe. Imp, Parasite, Datasucker are all staples of Anarch decks and very powerful in their own right. Cache and Lamprey are both marginal, but do see play outside of Noise (e.g. Aesop decks and headlock Reina).

The B&E suite and Spy Camera are just way too marginal.

Criminal draw (aside from Drug Dealer) has been generally pretty weak. Rebirth into Geist is bad because you need draw to get to the Rebirth and Geist is the only Criminal that doesn’t need a ton of support to get draw. Whatever benefit you get from a faster setup with Andy (are there any other good criminal starting IDs for rebirth? Silhouette for the deck size?) is offset by the fact that you either need to add draw (which is redundant when you’re Geist) or click-draw a ton until you can change IDs.

How have people been teching for the current meta with Geist?

Right now I’ve got a Hades Shard (IG), Film Critic (for TFP and midseasons), and Jak Sinclair (prevent NEH asset spam from sneaking out agendas with impunity). I’ve got 2x hostage mainly for getting tech traders, but also to grab FC/Jak in a pinch.

I’ve also got 1x Deja Vu for running back anything that’s important. So far I’ve mainly used it for polop, hades and as backup for SoT/Levy.
