Earthrise needs support in the same way drug dealer does, for this deck when you are setting up 4 credits is too much of a hit. I don’t think this deck has room to support this. It is pretty rough
Yeah, that’s why I want to move to gabe, the free credits give you card draw which lets you keep the pressure up. I’ll post a list soon but I feel like gabe + dealer is going to be the go-to crim now.
You could well be right, but since Gabe has conditional economy more so than Kate and HB I generally find I’d rather have more economy in a deck and have a strong ability which you get with Leela.
Whatever, will keep messing around with criminal.
Agreed, I don’t think the gain from Earthrise drawing is enough to drop 4cr on it, especially in the early game where Earthrise is at its most useful but your credits are most valuable.
I recently went 4-0 with Leela at a GNK. I found room for two Drive By and they were extremely useful especially in the dreaded Foodcoats matchup. What are your thoughts on Drive By, it’s not in the list you shared.
Great question and something I’ve been thinking about a lot recently.
When Drive By was spoiled I thought it was going to be great. However it is very easy to play around and therefore no very impactful. Because of this it’s not really played and this is what makes it good, people aren’t playing around it and I bet you can catch some people out with it.
It still has problems, it’s only going to catch someone out once. If you play them (or their friend) in the cut its again likely to get played around.
I’d consider it as a 1 or 2 of at a tournament, but only once, not as a standard deck include. Could be okay until PO comes out.
I rather like Drive By, because playing around Drive By precludes playing around Siphon.
Think about it, how many times have you been stymied trying to siphon a corp to 0, because they kept unrezzed assets? I’ve been seeing it a lot in my local meta, where they keep assets unrezzed to deflect Siphons. Heck, once I started paying attention, I realized I’d been doing it a lot by habit, and realized that a Drive By would’ve been 4+ credits for the runner, not even counting the ability it has to let you dodge Jinteki Mushin’s and other baits.
The true problem with Drive By I think is that for Leela in particular, you’d prefer they play around your Siphon rather than Drive By (you prefer Corp with more unrezzed things for you to return.)
Gabe: Early HQ pressure.
Andromeda: Quick set-up, early-game pressure. Easier combo set-ups.
Ken: Reliable econ ability, early-game pressure.
Silhouette: Unique ability to defeat corp Mindgames, low-intensity constant HQ pressure, small deck-size for quicker combo setup.
Iain: Low influence, unique comeback ability. (Imagine getting Gabe’s money without spending a click for it…)
Leela: Powerful, unique ability that’s useful in most games. (The corp can sort-of turn it off by having a completely rezzed board.) Because of her ability, strong Centrals pressure at any point, and forces corps to play to her beat/tempo.
Geist: Raw velocity in cards, but no guarantee on quality.
Fisk: Unique ability to provide the corp with velocity without quality.
Right now I think the default problem with Criminal is that none of their Identities really have an economy-focused ability. The closest three are Gabe, Iain, and Geist, but their economy-ability is dependant on the Corporation’s play, and that’s not where Runners want to be right now. (I suppose Andromeda has an ‘econ’ ability, if you count four free cards at the start, and nothing after…)
I believe Criminal has to rely on Unique Ability rather than Strong Economy right now, especially with the MWL hitting the strongest econ the Criminal had. Leela looks strongest in a vacuum, and I think Andromeda could find a place. Iain’s comeback ability might be useful if FA is everywhere, and especially if News Team in particular is everywhere.
EDIT: Geist’s ‘economy’ ability isn’t dependent on Corp play, but instead is dependent on board self-destruction, with a couple exceptions. (e.g. SoT, Tech Writer)
Ken also has an economy ability.
While true, it’s still relatively tied into how the corp plays. If he got 1cr for each Event, it’d be a true econ ability. As it is, because they have to be runs, he has to spend a card to get the credit, and he exposes himself to the corporation’s defenses to get his economy.
Still, I did forget him there. And with 17 Influence, he has some potential if we can figure out how to leverage that most effectively. I sort of want to see what happens if we ignore his ability and build him a normal Crim deck with 2 extra influence.
That’s a pretty good ID breakdown. Right now Criminal is really suffering from basically not having cards for 2 cycles. Genesis was ok, but Spin and and most of Lunar were not. Even SanSan hasn’t been great because most of those cards have just been Geist support, or 1-influence imports into other factions.
EDIT: Not to mention most of the garbage that is Honor and Profit
A few low-lights:
Genesis
Networking
Satellite Uplink
Cortez Chip
Muresh Bodysuit
Snitch
Spin
Executive Wiretaps
Lawyer Up
Leverage
Recon
Running Interference
Blackguard
Copycat
Expert Schedule Analyzer
Leviathan
Honor and Profit
Early Bird
Planned Assault
Public Terminal
Unregistered S&W
Window
Bug
Gingerbread (cries a little inside)
Push Your Luck
Theophilius Bagbiter
Lunar
Bribery
Paper Tripping
Three Steps Ahead
Unscheduled Maintenance
Autoscripter
Au Revior
Power Tap
Zona Sul Shipping
SanSan
Dorm Computer
Titanium Ribs
Enhanced Vision
Rolodex
I was actually curious about that, so I went and put together a list of useful Criminal cards not Genesis/Core:
Fall Guy, Hostage, Garrote, Silencer, and stretching for Savoir-faire from Spin
Legwork, Logos, IDs, Central-Only breakers, and SecTesting from Honor and Profit. (That’s a Weyland-level ratio.)
Switchblade, Leela, Rex from Lunar. (Au Revoir and Supplier honorable mentions.)
Career Fair, Geist, Drive By, Gang Sign, Drug Dealer, and FIS from SanSan (B&E suite and Forger honorable mentions.)
Wow, they really didn’t get much between Genesis and SanSan, and SanSan’s definitely been the best for them since Genesis. (Argument possible for Honor and Profit being good for them as well.)
Hey, Networking is good against SYNC.
It’s really a depressing state of affairs. The only faction worse off is Weyland, probably followed by Jinteki. But at least those red cards have Caprice Nisei? I heard that’s a decent card.
lol was about to chime in with this, best tech card evar
I kind of want to play Paper Tripping just to see the look on someones face after a Midseasons. But that’ll happen just about never.
I played a Midseasons and stuck a Whizzard with 5 tags.
He then began his next turn with Paper Tripping.
Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.
I wonder if it’s coincidence? All those factions have at the very least 1 ‘overpowered’ cards (Scorch, Caprice, and Siphon) that are all extensively played in other colors (NBN Butcher, HB Glaciers, and Anarch Reina/Maxx/Val). Seems like it might be a case of over-compensating.
Or I could be missing some obvious stuff. I’m still kinda new-ish.
I always kind of want it in aggro siphon all the time Crims that eventually realize the corp is about to psychographics, but deckslots are just too tight
You definatly are not. This is spot on. It’s just those home factions can’t leverage these cards as well as other factions, and I think the designers realized this, and made these cards high influance because of this.
I’ve gone pretty deep down the rabbit hole testing Andy. Early iterations of my deck were very weak but now it is at a place where it feels strong / powerful. She will be my runner for Store Championship(s) this season.
