E. Kim Appreciation Thread

-2 The Supplier, +2 Hostage gets you enough influence to turn one Uninstall into a Scavenge. Speaking of: how’s Supplier been working out for you in this deck? Looks to me like you’re a bit light on stuff to install with him, how many cards does he install for you over a typical game?

Casts, liberated, Vigil, memstrips, earthirse. Could be a bit more, but it works out fine. I don’t find hostage all that great really, mostly because its a double.

I ran a variant with 1 kati, 1 stim dealer, 1 human first, and supplier. It was slow IMO.

I pretty much install everything I can through supplier.

I think I should use my thread more but I think I got most of this Stealth Kim down. I’m now waffling between Vigil and Grimore. Vigil’s draw is nice, between forcing the Corp that might want to play around it and giving me the free draw needed to get stealth working, but because I don’t have the access to hardware digs that Criminal and Shaper get, I have Memstrips to put down the Datasuckers/Mediums, not to mention having room for more cloaks.

I find Day Job a great complement to Liberated accounts. Armitage was just too slow for the build to work, but with Liberated I can click and then install leaving 2 for runs. Silencer was there because with another Special Order I had that one influence left, and Switchblade just felt stealth credit hungry that getting this out might be useful. Course, this makes Reflector worse and Code Gates were a bit of the pain testing last night. Grimore means I can have Kat, Reflector, Switchblade, and Mimic out with 2 cloaks to power anything, and can dump datasucker/medium/parasite onto a Memstrip. But Vigil has averaged a good 5-6 cards most games, since it’s in the corp’s best interest not to play around it.

Things I am thinking of changing would be getting back that third cloak and using that 1 inf for a Quality Time. With Liberated or Day Job I can get enough money to install most things a QT should draw, and if there’s any problem with Stealth is getting stuff installed. It should also cover the need for that third Special Order.

I also was running 1x medium 1x nerve agent, but without Dijinn means rolling with whatever comes up first, and it hurts when one doesn’t show up.

The econ package is where I am least confident in the deck. it’s my glaring weakness in all of my runner decks - I never know how much of and which cards to use.

The 6 credit startup cost on Liberated is what makes me shy away. Heck - I get annoyed having to get up to 5 for Sure Gamble on some turns.

Tried on Jinteki.net but it kept crashing and got no really useful data. I will be trying with real paper cards tonight for a few hours and again on Friday. I’m not changing my list yet. I want to see how the current cards run. I’ll have more to report tonight.

its running both. passive economy to maximize day job.

I played this last night at my FLGS; yes, it’s based on Steven Wooley’s “six deck fight night” deck because I’m an unimaginative hack, although I did make some changes (took out Day Jobs, swapped Vigil for Grimoire once I noticed Vigil wasn’t really having an effect on my opponents at all - plus didn’t really need Djinn at that point).

It went 3-1, with the 1 loss being vs. a BWBI space ice ‘vegan Weyland’ glacier deck. Turns out having Orion + the Twins + a second copy of Orion in hand, sandwiched between Wormhole and Nebula, is a bit much for D4v1d with no mid-run recursion to handle. Parasite felt like dead weight, which is simply a side effect of that particular deck, I suppose. I went back and forth on the 1 dog + 1 Mimic vs. 2 Mimics setup and in the end I was glad to have the dog; I couldn’t get enough Datasucker counters built up fast enough for Mimic to be able to deal effectively with Nebula.

On the up side, in both the win and the loss, I trashed all his Trick of Lights. Score one for the hammer, I guess. I still spent most of the night wishing I was Valencia with the ability to threaten Blackmails, or Quetzal to skip an Asteroid Belt now and again.

Definite flop: Virus Breeding Ground. The possibilities were there (double the speed at which Parasite works! Generate more Datasucker counters without runs! Dig deeper with Medium!) but it never seemed to work out.

glad to see Cujo getting some play. I maintain it’s not a terrible card

I’m playing it in my deck, and I can tell you its pretttttyyyy bad.

Scrubbed and bishop make it fair, but that’s a caissa deck, and we all know how effective those are. Playing 2 bad cards to make a bad card better is…bad.

Interesting point: Edward Kim makes whizzard better…

Imo there is no value in vbg for parasite or datasucker. It’s contribution is limited to darwin, hive, medium na, chakana

Some of us vividly remember hard lock-outs by purges with Tollbooths, Archers and the like on centrals. Sure, you can probably solve most of those issues with D4v1d nowadays, but if you’re already running VBG, it’s a nice-to-have option.

Also, clicking three times on VBG to nuke Eli after a purge seems at least as legit as Knifing it and clicking through. Just sayin’.

Doesn’t purging clear VGB as well? The rulebook text refers to “counters hosted on cards”, not programmes. Whilst VGB doesn’t explicitly refer to hosting, the FAQ entry on hosting suggsts that anything “on” another card is hosted on it.

Yes, exactly.

VBG is good with Progenitor (which is awkward as hell to use in Anarch), Imp (unless you want the Anarch to have infinite Imp tokens), and for pumping up Medium without having to run a server. But games are way too fast right now for this to work. Most people don’t trash all the assets against NEH because there’s no time to make the run, not because of lack of funds, for instance.

Interesting point with the purge, thanks for that! Not like you’re only going to have one out anyway, though :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think this is true. Having the money to trash and being able to spend trash money without becoming vulnerable to in-remote hard-scored NAPDs, overscored Beales and rezzed SanSans you can’t afford to trash are separate things.

Might be worth experimenting with VBG/Imp then. I’d love an Anarch that can slow the gamestate down enough for some of the great drip economy options to work.

I tried that Ed Kim list I had posted (basic runner shell with grave digger and cutlery). Here are my impressions and thoughts. Please look back and read this… let me know what you think if you wanna get your brain in the space to make that idea work.

It maintains well. Daily Cast and Data Folding get you a lot of passive economy… though I just went on feel, not on the maths of it all. It ‘felt’ reasonable.

Cutlery let me get some nice cost reduction on the runs, so it turned out being a nice ‘plan for the future’ economy card.

Gravedigger + Cutlery felt really nice… but with only 1 Gravedigger it wasn’t a big impact. With 2 or 3 in play it was huge. This lead to me holding Cutlery in wait for Gravediggers… which threw the tempo down a bit.

Biggest problem the deck had was that since you wanna set up all the ‘slow-roll’ economy, you aren’t doing a lot of early accessing. This makes the Blue Sun matchup a fucking nightmare, since you don’t keep their money down with probing runs, and they always have money to land the Sea/Midseasons if you didnt snag it from HQ earlier.

When the deck worked, it worked really well. I also expect that style of deck to just hard murder HB FA when it gets tuned better. Does it work better in Whizzard? Meta call honestly. You wanna trash asset economy for Gravedigger tokens… but as Whizzard they won’t install it anyway. The Kim ability lets you keep the operation economy too. I think it might overall slow the corp down more, at the cost for being harder to kill the asset side… but like I said you get dual benefit for that.

I think Djinn might be a key to this… or multiple breakers + pure SMC support so you can get the Gravediggers faster. Not sure.

It needs Kati Jones. That kinda deck could really use 1 good click for economy a turn while it runs/mills/draws.

Any thoughts?

Did you play against NEH yet? This deck seems much, much too slow.

I would double down on the SMC plan - add Clone Chips and Stimhack instead of the Special Order and try to pay for the breakers you need mid-run with Stim money.

You can trash Biotic and Fast Track with your ID ability which is great but you still need to deal with SanSans and Jacksons. If you’re playing Gravedigger already you should also be playing Imp to kill assets/upgrades.

1x Garotte is too expensive against Architect and you’re especially sad if you dump it with Inject. I would play Mimic + D4V1D as a sentry solution. Or if you really want the Garotte, I’d go with Retrieval Run to cheat it out.

Kati is good against glacier but also too slow against NEH. Armitage/Liberated is fine and much better than Data Folding. Another option to consider is SMC into 1x Opus, possibly funded by Stimhack money. Opus is less click efficient than your other options but has the important property of freeing up deck space.

Lots of things to consider, and yea i see what you mean about the econ package vs NEH. Could really be an issue.

I’ll have to take a look and balance for speed and efficiency.

Really? You think 6 clicks to destroy Eli is a good choice?

1 for parasite, 1 for vbg, and 4 clicks to kill? And before you say the click for vbg isn’t fair I’m ignoring the time value for vbg to grow those tokens.

Whole turn to kill eli. Color me unimpressed.

Imo you have 3 great option with parasite.
hivemind.
incubator.
death over time.

The more I play with vbg, the more I leave it out.
