E. Kim Appreciation Thread

Alright, I’ve been playing the Hammer Man and feeling out how useful the ability is. To be honest my findings are pretty underwhelming. On average each game I ended up trashing 1-2 operations (I made sure to have a little tracker and jump up and down each time I got to fire it). However! Out of the 15 recent games I’ve played, only one has ended in a loss. I have racked my brain trying to determine if it is Ed Kim that is the cause of the success or just the help order and chaos gave the faction as a whole.

Things I have found…

-I run with no fear, I played against lots of weyland (as that’s the hot thing now) and I am never afraid of being flatlined

-people play differently when they know operations are not safe

-his ability is enough to threaten HQ

-Anarch has the ability now to just have a classic rig, and it is powerful!

-Medium. Play Medium.

Still not sure how great only using his ability a couple times a game is, but trashing a scorched earth/biotic labor and seeing the corps reaction is just too satisfying at the moment so I’m going to keep testing

You got a list you feel comfortable sharing?

Sounds about right. Whizzard had about this pressure but at the time we were asset light. Pure operation economy was a thing. Now the mix can go both ways. I feel like if you try swapping in Whiz see if the accesses play out about the same.

Again I’ll make the comparison to Gabe - it’s all about aggression. Gabe gives you fuel, Eddie smashes the corp’s plans (literally!) but only when you’re being aggressive.

I thought for sure I had posted it earlier in the thread…but that’s probably because the list is so similar to the MaxX deck I posted. (I’ve been trying to figure out the best identity for the anarch shell I’ve been working on)

Humanity’s Touch (45 cards)
Edward Kim: Humanity’s Hammer
– Event (16 cards)
2 Déjà Vu
3 Inject
3 Retrieval Run
2 Special Order
3 Steelskin
3 Sure Gamble
– Hardware (4 cards)
2 MemStrips
2 The Personal Touch
– Program (15 cards)
1 Corroder
3 Datasucker
2 Medium
2 Mimic
2 Morning Star
3 Parasite
2 Yog.0
– Resource (10 cards)
3 Daily Casts
1 Ice Carver
3 Kati Jones
2 Security Testing
1 Utopia Shard

Nothing is super fancy or exciting about this deck, some might even say its not truly anarch! Yet for me and this deck I’m trying to make it efficient and effective.

Anarch programs/breakers have been notoriously good throughout the history of netrunner, yet very few decks can dedicate the amount of influence needed to run everything anymore. While the anarch problem has been getting those programs online, whether it be tutoring or money or speed. With Order and Chaos and the last few data packs there are some new tools to reevaluate a classic rig, and this is my attempt to bring it to life.

@warpchy
I also think whizzard is in a good spot within the meta right now. It is something I will be testing as a straight identity swap could totally work.

@Crossbrainedfool
Totally agree! Aggression is key, however some decks just dont have the operations to trash. Every econ card that is drawn is almost immediately played, and they might only have a couple other operations in the deck. Medium helps with finding the econ cards before they do, but if you already have a lock on them it’s a win more scenario. I think it was @Peekaysk who stated earlier that Eds ability might be most useful as a defense for the aggressive tendencies, which I have found quite true and useful.

The link has also helped. It’s probably saved you 1-3 or more credits in each game you’ve played. It’s subtle but a great benefit. Ask an Andy player.

I think that if you had HQ pressure you’d be trashing more than just a few operations per game. HQ is where you find and trash goodies like Scorched Earth, Biotic Labor, Midseasons, etc. pooling up

ive been testing out a bunch of Different Kim decks, so far im not overly impressed by the ability, as most events corps run are Econ based, and once they see your ID they just play them soon as they come up Which just leaves you with the utility Ops (scorch and the like)

Which actually leading me to think Kim might be the REAL tag-me- econ denial (AoA) runner of this expansion, you have the ability to get rid of damage cards and more importantly econ cards that will accumulate in there HQ which lets them recover from being Hit.

So this is my old wizard DLR deck which if done a tiny tweek on. (haven’t tested) would be interested in what people think of it.

Deck built on http://netrunnerdb.com.

*edit, hemorrhage might be better as wanton destruction, the bigest weakness i can see is blue sun, dam you blue sun!

Being able to make efficient runs, with EDs ability, and parasite. I’ve found that I can make Hq runs often and make them worth it. Extra multi access would be nice but I feel like they would be more of a luxury then a necessity. Ice is the only thing that I couldn’t trash/score and they will want to play most ice they get or be very loosely defended

The point of the ability is to clear stuff out of the way that you don’t want. The goal is to find the weak server and hammer it hard. You have to have Imp. The ideal turn is getting into a server and seeing three cards through repeated runs and trashing. Clear the junk out of the way to get to the agendas. Hopefully with a Medium or Nerve Agent in play.

So it’s a threefold power. Trash their econ and combos. Protect yourself. And see more cards.

I think Dirty Laundry has to go in, it seems to be everything Kim wants for an econ card. I’d maybe slot in one more Stimhack as well, if only to abuse Stimhack/SMC.

I think the econ package should contain Gamble, Daily Casts, and Dirty Laundry for sure, possibly Day Job, and maybe one other clickable econ. Liberated Account is just Armitage on steroids, so if Armitage isn’t doing it for you, Liberated may not either. Hell, you could just go to an all event econ, but that makes me wonder if PPVP isn’t a horrible add for the deck.

Have you had a chance to test this out yet? I’d be curious to see how the Deja Vus are working for you, as well as using your first SMC for Djinn. Once I actually get a day off work in here, I’m going to try to jump onto OCTGN and maybe get a few games in so I can get a feel for how the deck actually plays.

THe issue with stimhack is if you start playing these, i feel you need to play plascrete as well, since for IHW to work you need 2 in hand and 5 hand as well to be completely safe.

i have also tried a PPVP ed, and found i would rather have just 3 more econ cards or something else instead of the PPVP as they cost 2 to install, and if you get them late its just not worth installing them.

I put together a prototype that i will test out over the next few days. i have a shaper background, which i think influences some of my choices… but i had a reina deck focused on long term money and hemorrhage… and applied the theory i had back then to do the goal i have now.

edward kim, with gravedigger

events -----------------------
knifed x 3
spooned x 3
forked x 2
special order x 2 (4 influence)
inject x 2
i’ve had worse x 3
deja vu x 2
day job x 3
sure gamble x 3

hardware -----------------------
memstrips x 3
cyberfeeder x 3

programs -----------------------
gravedigger x 3
parasite x 2
zu.13 key master x 1 (2 influence)
garrote x 1 (3 influence)
corroder x 1
self-modifying code x 2 (6 influence)

resources -----------------------
data folding x 3
daily casts x 3

I strongly recommend swapping Data Folding for Daily Casts. DC turns into +5c in 4 turns. DF turns into +5 credits in 8 turns.

I’ll toss the list I’ve been messing with out there to keep the thread going and in a new direction. I decided to take a more classic criminal approach (run lots, get multi-accesses), cash + boostables.

It started out as Sage+Cuj.0+overmind with Data Folding UWC and casts. As hilarious as gaining 3 cards and 8 credits at the start of your turn is, its a Timmy dream. But, even half that is fun.

I redid the breaker suite, and economy (removing the jank), and came up with this:

Edward Kim Humanity’s Hammer
15 influence spent (max 15) •••••••••••••••
45 cards (min 45)
Cards up to Order and Chaos
Event Event (11)

3x I’ve Had Worse
2x Lucky Find ••••
1x Stimhack
3x Sure Gamble
2x Uninstall
Hardware Hardware (6)

3x MemStrips
3x Vigil
Resource Resource (12)

3x Daily Casts
3x Earthrise Hotel
1x Hades Shard •
2x Liberated Account
3x The Supplier ••••• •
Icebreaker Icebreaker (9)

2x Cerberus “Cuj.0” H3
2x Corroder
3x Overmind
2x ZU.13 Key Master ••••
Program Program (7)

2x D4v1d
3x Medium
2x Nerve Agent

The Idea is to stream cards in with the piles of passive draw (its amazing how much draw you get out of Vigil alone!). The cards you draw naturally provide you econ, and that way you can run.

My most recent change after testing was -2 special order +2 lucky find, and I’m not sure how much better it is, the draws on breakers were, as expected, less consistent. You definitely lean on Overmind more this way, but the econ keeps you threatening. Overmind gets uninstalled and reinstalled after a few memstrips are out, and you’re set on counters. Behind stimhack you can threaten a remote with little issue. Uninstall works on cuj.0 and D4v1d too, which is great vs new Weyland ICE and to some extent IT decks.

Once you get a medium or two online, the pressure is pretty intense, then you can also drop Nerve Agent and increase the pressure there. This exactly build has lead me to get the most actual use out of his ability.

In all I’ve played this about 10 times in the Sage form, and another 6 in the non(less) janky form.

Oh, those duds. Scorched Earth, Punitive Counterstrike, Trick of Light, Biotic Labour, Fast Track, Archived Memories, Interns, Celebrity Gift. Who’d ever want to kill that insignificant nonsense.

More seriously, and not to be discounted, sniping 1-3 Hedge Funds/Sweeps Weeks in a game is huge. Much bigger than it feels. It’s also harder to hide agendas in hands with no Operations. I’m 5/5 with Eddy Kim since the box came out (not a huge sample size, but certainly not nothing). Some games he’s been really oppressive, other games he’s not trashed any operations. His ability has never been irrelevant.

And he has a link, all tier 1 runners have a link :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice, first reasonable use of Uninstall I’ve seen. Still way worse than Scavenge but your influence is tight.

How bad is that Cuj.0 though? Every time I put him in a deck I pay a pile of money to break Architect or Caduceus or just burn every counter on a Komainu, then promptly remove him for Mimic. If you have Overmind and D4V1D it’s not like big sentries are going to be a problem.

I feel like with tons of memory you should play at least 1 Datasucker. Every dollar it saves you on pumping Overmind is pure economy.

If I were Kanye, Scavenge would be my Kanye. But influence is tight, so I stick with the free to play uninstall.

I think that cuj0 is okay, particularly when you can reset it. It does suck to break architect, but against komainu, pup, and tsurugi, between overmind and cuj.0, you’re often only paying in power tokens, which is fantastic. Same with big sentries and d4v1d.

The real problem is that Weyland is big right now, and changeling makes me sad. I do think it’ll end up with Datasucker though, part of it is just stubbornness to try new things. Also, previous iterations ran 2-3 link (as I said I had UWC lol), which saved me effort on tracer-type sentries. What looks like the spot for datasucker though?

What I like is that no matter how much ice the opponent has, as long as you have money, you can get in for more medium digs and nerve agents. Big Hail Marys off stimhack are nice too.

This is why I like Vigil, the game-effect is that the corp will play down to 4 cards, and knowing Ed’s ability, probably play operations right away, leaving nothing but ice and agendas in hand (or assets which you can trash to make way). This makes Nerve Agent more effective, as it takes fewer HQ hits in order to see everything. A good HQ lock is a good thing to have!

I have considered Vigil. At the moment I’m running Desperado. Games where I see Desperado early are enough better than games where I don’t, that I think it’s influence well spent. I’m with @kiv, I can’t justify Cuj.0, as much as I’d like to. Should have had the same stats as Rex. You also don’t have parasite. You mad bro.

Bloody Zu.13 - everyone is putting it in decks. STOP IT! (One day I’ll get over it and happily break all the code gates, for now I’m going to run Yog.0 and be happy)

At one point it had Zu. Creeper, and Sage (E3 implants). Now YOU mad bro :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m certain it’ll come back to mimic parasite and datasucker. For now, I’m keeping my damn dog.
