E. Kim Appreciation Thread

I like your buddy’s list. It’s about 3 cards different (metagame call) from my most current Kim list.

Nice to see it won a store championship. I have been too shy/secretive to try and use it in my local store champs. Nice work!

Maybe the right play is to then do something like -1 Gordian Blade, +1 Atman and now you have 1 free influence to spend on something like a Shard or a Femme, keeping the Yog to handle the small code gates being used and let Atman at 4 be your “other” Code Gate breaker when not facing Weyland. Having the influence to go fetch a Femme can also solve some problems, but you have to accept that you’ll be paying for Femme the hard way.

Maybe just a Utopia’s Shard then for the 2-3 floating “metagame” slots.

Not sure what you mean about influence, as they post cost 3 inf.

I’m an idiot. I thought Atman was 2 (too lazy to look it up).

Wishful thinking.

Now someone needs to talk me out of using Atman in place of Gordian Blade … this might warrant the third datasucker coming back in.

Gordian is only here for Lotus. With Gordian you can run with only 3 breakers, but Atman you’re going to need to run 4, so we’re going to need that second Jinn if we want to fit in enough viruses and a slot for David AND Sneakdoor, and that does mean no space for standing parasites. But so far we have established money is rarely an issue, and it does mean 4+ ice take one less sucker to deal with, if not worked with David.

You could just use parasite as your Quandry/Enigma/Datapike breaker

The other really annoying problem that Atman solves over Gordian is Ichi 1.0. Maybe it just means adding a 3rd Grimoire. I am personally not as much a fan of the random 1-of Plascrete and they cost the same.

I’d consider -1 Plascrete, +1 Grimoire, -1 Gordian, +1 Atman, -1 D4vid, +1 Datasucker. And as Peekay mentioned, Atman goes a really long way against the constellation ice, lessening the need for 3xD4vid. It’s worth trying. Heck, there’s so much Ichi 1.0 in my meta, I think I’m making the snap call to change to Atman.

That’s also a good idea and maybe the third Grimoire makes Parasite that much more attractive.

I can say I did faceplant an Ichi 1 unprepared. Killed a Jinn. I need to learn to rig.

Atman sounds like a solid plan. Covers the Lotus problem and gives us a tonne of flexibility in matchups with Blue Sun and HB. Ichi 1.0 is a real problem especially on RnD.

Going through Elis for 2 cred without burning sucker tokens is always solid, yo.

Also: Chum, Data Raven, Hunter, RSVP.

In my experience Atman’s flexibility comes up 1 game in 10. You hard cast it or stim it out for 7 and it fills the whole between D4v1d and yog.0 and mimic. I once used it against an NEH architect when I couldn’t find mimic - they had lotus field but I won before that became an issue.

Atman is great in Anarch.

Fixed that for you.

So it seems like the deck has performed well enough to win at least two different players an SC (even if one was supposedly carried by their NEH deck).

Given the Atman suggestion, here’s my skeleton build. Some of you may prefer 3x D4vid over 3x Imp or some of you may want to dump that third Imp for a Plascrete/whatever. I think that 3rd Imp slot is the “45th card slot” which will vary based on meta:

Edward Kim: Humanity’s Hammer

Event (9)
3x Déjà Vu
3x I’ve Had Worse
3x Sure Gamble

Hardware (2)
2x Grimoire

Resource (10)
3x Armitage Codebusting
3x Daily Casts
2x Kati Jones
2x Liberated Account

Icebreaker (7)
1x Atman •••
3x Corroder
2x Mimic
1x Yog.0

Program (17)
2x D4v1d
2x Datasucker
1x Djinn
3x Imp
1x Medium
1x Nerve Agent
3x Parasite
3x Self-modifying Code ••••• ••••
1x Sneakdoor Beta •••

15 influence spent (max 15)
45 cards (min 45)
Cards up to Order and Chaos

So … can anyone suggest some good names for the deck? It isn’t particularly flashy or overly focused on anything but “running good cards.”

I’m awful at naming decks. I’m going to try the Atman build at an SC this weekend, though. With the Imps in it, I was thinking of something related to The Garbage Man because he takes out so much trash. I told you - I’m awful at naming decks.

Are all those breakers and SMC really needed? Seems you could fit in some more money or card draw to this deck and make it better. That’s also a lot of imps. I also think one of your corroders should be datasucker. If it’s working for you, don’t let me change it though.

I fully acknowledge that it’s a lot of Imps. I mentioned above that the 4rd Imp is a metagame call. Some have used Plascrete or a 3rd D4vid or whatever.

Yes it’s a lot of breakers and yes there are 3x SMC. I tried fewer breakers with special orders and mroe things like Cutlery and other tricks. Those were more “fun” because you were drawing a lot of different cards and yay, you could do some cool things. Then I played NBN and kept drawing things like Cutlery or Same Old Thing or Wanton Destruction, when what I really needed was a freakin’ Corroder to get by the 2x Wraparounds keeping me out of centrals.

Or I’d have the Breakers and not enough econ to fuel them.

Yes, 15 econ cards, 7 Breakers and 3x SMC is “boring.” It’s just really effective.

The Imps, for me, just amplify what Edward already does - he trashes things he accesses. The key is he needs to access cards. I just don’t see how you consistently access cards without money and breakers.

3x Corroders is redundant and maybe the second and third ones are dead draws once you find the first, but the point is that you want to get Corroder on the board. You want to get Mimic on the board. That’s why there are so many breakers AND tutors to find them.

DOn’t forget that the SMC is there to help you fetch your 1-ofs, too. It’s there for a surprise Sneakdoor dig. Or it gets you the 1-of Djinn so you can fetch your virus utility package.

As for fitting more money, the deck runs 15 pure econ cards and 2x Datasuckers. I would hope that’s enough econ.

You might have an argument for card draw, but the deck does run 3x I’ve Had Worse and 3x Deja Vu. Inject might fit and I might actually replace Sure Gambles with it, but I’d hate to have to Deja Vu back an early-game program because I injected it away.

Earthrise Hotel doesn’t seem more efficient than just clicking to draw (in this deck).

What other econ and.or card draw would you play?

Also, I tried running Wanton Destructions as more disruption, but found out that Kim’s ID and Imp is plenty good enough disruption without sacrificing clicks to get it.

The main focus of the deck is to get reliable central server access, especially R&D and HQ. I think money + breakers + multiaccess/trash is the best way to go about doing it. Maybe the Parasites are not needed and can be replaced with something more disruptive like Hemorrhage or Lamprey but I feel they are still good against Jinteki RP where they act like Econ cards against the taxing low-strength ICE.

Here’s what I’ve been running for a bit. I started just throwing “good stuff” into a deck after O&C (hence the name), gradually refined to this. Looks like I came to similar conclusions as many in the thread, but there are a couple of departures here:

Dumb Edward Attempt

Edward Kim: Humanity’s Hammer

Cards up to Order and Chaos

Deck built on http://netrunnerdb.com.

Snipped a bunch of stuff. How do you handle decks that run 2-3 Wraparound? With only one Corroder and card draw, it seems like you might have games against fast advance where you just can’t do anything but dig for your Corroder. Similarly with Mimic and Architect …

That was what prompted me into dumping Clone Chip/Inject and switching to Special Order first and then SMC eventually. I just kept losing too many games to Wraparound/FA because I couldn’t threaten centrals.

I suppose D4vid also helps against Wraparound specifically, but I’d be afraid of the consistency.
