E. Kim Appreciation Thread

Morningstar is ridiculous. Seriously. Specifically, it breaks Eli for one credit. If you plan on running through an Eli more than once in a game and can afford the tempo hit (Corroder spends 8 to break Eli twice) Morningstar pays for itself, and then some. Most decks are built counting on Eli to be for centrals defense, and being thought of as mid-cost curve ice (above wraparound/quandary, beyond binary which anarch breakers crush) meantto be taxing. Morningstar turns the following ice into binary:

-NEXT Silver
-Eli 1.0
-Hive
-Galahad
-Markus 1.0
-Wall of Thorns
-Ashigaru

There are a few more (Tyrant) but those are the ones you’ll see, specially Eli/NEXT Silver/Galahad. Breaking 100% of the barriers in 9 out of every 10 decks for a single credit is ridiculous and makes it hard for them to have a scoring remote that doesn’t involve tricks (Troubleshooter, Will o the Wisp) because taxing sentries and Tollbooth become the only thing that keep you from mercilessly digging R&D. That said, Imp those cards when you see them on digs and let them have all the barriers; it’s a losing battle for them to install -2 to set another Eli on R&D.

Thanks for posting your list! I have a couple of questions about your thoughts on you would make to your deck in your post afterwards:

  • Did you try out Forked over Parasite? Seems like blasphemy to not include parasite especially in a meta where NEH is so prevalent.
  • How have you found Earthrise hotel over JM? In the Kim deck I piloted in 2 SCs (lists posted above) I didn’t have either and feel like it would have been a huge asset. With Lucky Find especially the deck should have no issue bursting up to a point where the 4c for Earthrise is not a major tempo hit.

Thanks again for posting. Your version looks like a step up from mine with the Lucky Finds for more consistent Econ over the 3rd SMC and Sneakdoor. I also really like the idea of Wanton Destruction in this deck. It is a “must stop” threat that the corp will spend money razzing ice to prevent which opens up RnD which is your real focus.

I will give it a shot and see how it does!

What’s our take for Valley cards? Do we want to fit in Clot? SV sound like a reasonable draw engine?

Symmetrical Visage is very strong. Been playing it in Reina; I’m sure it’s just as good for Eddie.

Especially because it lacks the tempo hit of Earthrise.

Kim will be able to enjoy the impact Clot will have without having to run it. SfSS is what the community is saying will be the new thing to slot 3 of, and Kim strongly supports Corp meta moving toward SfSS to deal with Clot. It means Kim can build for remote control (like my deck, absurd econ, super-efficient breakers, and Stimhack for Ash) and R&D Medium pressure to intercept operations and smash through remotes like always, but it will have higher opportunity to make impact because of this switch.

Sorry, what do you mean by SfSS? Can’t think of any card that suits those letters.

Shipment from SanSan.

Ah, thanks, sorry.

But Cyberdex Virus suite will surely be another way to deal with clot (certainly a more expensive one) that will be used by HB, I think.

Problem being that corps don’t mind getting the SfSS trashed if the runner isn’t running clot.

Is every thread now the clot thread? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Every Anarch thread is going to have to mention clot.

Depends on where it is. In R&D, this is generally true. In HQ, less so.

Whoever suggested Queen’s Gambit was on point for sure!

My current project is an Eddie deck that runs Logos, Human First, and Queen’s Gambit to get set up. I give the corp the first agenda, Logos for whatever breaker I need, and then start running with all the money. Half the time I just end up Gambiting a stupid Jackson or something anyway.

It almost plays like a Shaper deck in that it takes a little time to set up and tutor a full rig before running, but with the added advantage of Scrubbers and Imps to trash everything that might cause any issues. So far it’s won most games I’ve played with it, but I won’t be able to test it in an actual tournament setting until a week from Thursday.

Depends on how you view it! The more operations the better as far as I’m concerned; I don’t care if the Corp doesn’t “need” SfSS for the game against me, because it’s one more operation in R&D for me to hammer to archives to make that second dig juicier.

No joke though, mine is such a Medium-driven strategy that I might need to consider ArchInt for Kim. It’s a generally weak card (and the cost of 3 over the initial 2 is another disincentive) but as a long time anarch player nothing quite ruins your day like a Corp recurring CyberSuite with Interns, Vitruvius, Archived Memories, or even Jackson. Knowing you could hit that on a 5-card dig and give the Corp as many turns to focus on their scoring remote is a pretty devastating blow. ArchInt could make the cut as my new “45th card” if CyberSuite becomes more prevalent.

I’ve been running one for a while. It’s useful some of the time, namely for eliminating Jacksons, Caprices, or the 1x Adonis that shows up in some blue sun decks.

So what’s the general opinion on Special Order vs. SMC in Kim? Seems to me that 3x SO + 3x Earthrise + 3x IHW is a great draw/tutor package that resembles a Criminal playstyle. Which I think is better for Kim than going the Shaper route. As a bonus, you relieve your MU by eschewing the SMCs. 1 Memstrips instead of packing slooowww Djinns further amplifies this.

Wanton loses some of its bite, but 1 combined with Kims ability and Imp is all the HQ pressure you need, I would presume.

I’m liking my current influence package of 3x Clone Chip, 2x Special Order, 1x Atman. Lots of flexibility, and lets me play the utterly insane draw combo of IHW and Earthrise and Inject!

When i tried with SMC, the variants were nowhere as good, actually - both due to the MU issues, and because SMC is a program, so it got Injected away occasionally.

I feel like I want an AI breaker, like Knight, earlier runs. The Morning Star is a nice surprise like Sneakdoor, I also tried SV and nope, not fast enough. I’d need the draw on top of Earthrise to find some things. especially a Kati.
