E. Kim Appreciation Thread

I’ll be honest - I’ve just been using scrubber for a similar purpose, and it’s been fine. Likewise, I’m not running any HQ multiaccess at the moment.

I’ve been thinking that to pull a whizzard clone. You can only have so many pieces that need setting up with these kinds of runners before running.

So I am thinking of designing my first Kim deck, but it might be too combotastic to have any real validity. The idea is that bad pub and Itinerent Protestors have much more synergy with Kim’s plan than Valencia’s, but boy is it hard to give them the pub.

My plan is to use the natural synergy between Activist Support and Street Peddler. The latter can bring out the former with instant timing so you don’t have to worry about it being trashed first. Alas, this is luck without further jank support and they can just trash whatever with Activist still in play.
Another idea is Frame Job and Fan Site…yeah.

But really, maybe just running Hemorrhage is better than all this silly. And Hacktivist Support synergizes with Kim almost as well as an ideal Protestor. Should I even try?

Reoccuring credits might be more viable. Valencia makes better use of Bad pub by being able to start with one,

To be honest - Kim isn’t (in my opinion) a combo ID. While Hacktivist Meeting is good, it’s more a “Do I need a current” card.

The bad pub plan is simply to finicky and slow.

I’d tend to agree. Just noticed there wasn’t a single deck that was trying Peddler/Activist together.

What attracted me most to Kim in the first place is how solid and good stuff his decks tend to be. I should just grab a good deck of his rather than try any wonky new takes.

Good stuff ed is pretty solid - it’s just that, unfortunately, ed is rarely the best option over other good stuff anarchs. I will say that I think ed > whizz in a butcher shop heavy meta, though.

Unfortunately butcher already has variance working against it, whereas any RP player will straight up murder reg Kim. I would rather be Whizzard vs butcher than Kim vs RP; I played a lot of Kim coming up with the L4J shell on my own a month before it showed up running Inject and Scrubbers and everything I could to ease the RP matchup but it’s still no match for the mighty Asset Spam.

That’s odd. I don’t think RP is particularly good against anarch. I’m pretty sure my desperado Ed was 5-0 against RP a couple of months ago in tournaments. Desperado makes assets a lot more manageable I suppose. Ed is fine. He’s probably not quite as good as Whizzard at the moment, but he’s fine. I liked being able to shrug at corps with murderous intent. It felt great.

Desperado over SMC makes hb rush nearly impossible to manage with consistency imo. Without the tutoring of SMC you’re putting too much work on your clone chips to find your breakers fast enough with Inject. You would have to run wyldcakes, at which point you should be adding 3 Blackmail and 2 DL to swap to Val the way I see it. You need tutors to continue to threaten remotes while you build.

I had 1x Atman (preferably at 4 but not always). 1x Knight and 1x Special Order. Also, d4v1d and parasucker. That deck wasn’t too easy to rush against. I’m not saying it’s the best list. But it was good against RP. I haven’t played it for a couple of months, maybe you’re right about HB rush.

Val is, overall, a better ID than Ed Kim. But Ed presents different challenges to the corp and is, I think, much better against NBN.

Ed is higher variance versus RP, especially with Scrubber. However, his ability to trash econ ops is not to be underestimated - costing RP a Celebrity Gift can keep a scoring window from opening, or remove the cushion to recover from the econ hit from scoring. It’s hardly reliable, but it does matter quite a lot in the matchup. Trashing Interns can be just as important.

Ed also has the solid advantage to being resilient to Shutdown, which is nice when depending on NRE.

Kim depending on NRE? That is so unfortunate Thematically…
By resilient you just mean his ability to bring the hammer down on Shutdown before it goes off, yeah?

Took the other build and did some fitting for critic and ddos. thinking runs with no new ice rezzed might be a boon to faust,

Faust works so hard outside of noise iv found. Id be cautious to make it a main breaker. There are so few cards that genuinely have value in the bin (unless your noise).

A valtman style breaker suite i think would more appropriate.

Well, I said that before Faust came out. Still, I’m more in favor of the regular breaker plan.

Looks like Kim is poised to be a strong tier 2 ID come Worlds time- in a world where corps across the board are (mostly) switching to heavier operation usage and less assets, and less RP showing, the ability to trash operations on access is looking pretty solid. I’m going to break out my old store champ list from earlier this year and see what I can do with it.

Contenders for an updated Kim list:
-DDoS (probably x1)
-Archives Interface (x1, deletes CVS and makes Medium terrifying, opens up archives to sucker farming)

Thoughts? For the first time in a while I’m looking forward to Kim!

I think RegAss template with extra some extra draw is a good place to start. Love your suggestions too. The dual-side acrylic ID dream is alive and well!!! So far I’ve just taken the standard RegAss MaxX and dropped knifed, spooned and a single Kati for three Earthrise. Levy obv. comes out for the Career Fairs, if you really wanna get them in. But what else do you drop to make room. And tbh, I kinda like having a Levy around anyway.

I think Sneakdoor is a good Kim card to start with. It’s the archives pressure that fits him perfectly. You need to get as many shots at those Biotic/SFSS/Scorch’s as possible.

I had a draw package of 3x Inject, 3x IHW, and 2x Earthrise I believe. RegMaxX has a lot of consistency but without her built in draw you’ll find you want to tune the deck to be a lot faster. I’ll post my list shortly but the tl;dr is 2x Stimhack 2x SMC 2xCC 2xNRE. It gets a rig out faster than MaxX, and when it can’t you find Kim’s disruption helpful for getting you through till you can lock.
