Link's Adventure - The Sunny Lebeau Thread

Without power taps Another Day I have found is more than viable, without even mentioning the need to have an answer against scarcity. With power taps Day becomes a 2 or 3 count especially in a DLR deck. I have found the common use case has been 5-6 credits plus power taps for the first agenda I hit, and it goes thru the roof from there. In more than a couple of games I have cleaned out archives after DLR for a turn or two and cashed out 20+ credits. This allows me to establish a firm remote lock that leads to the final inevitability of sunny.

Does anyone have an updated list with Aaron?

I’ve been having very good luck with this (10-2 on jinteki casual right now):

Party at the Sanctuary

Sunny Lebeau: Security Specialist (Data and Destiny)

3x Career Fair (Breaker Bay) ●●●
3x Sure Gamble (Core Set)

2x Security Nexus (Data and Destiny)
3x Sports Hopper (Salsette Island)

Resource (31)
1x Beth Kilrain-Chang (Blood Money) ●●●
2x Citadel Sanctuary i[/i]
2x Aaron Marron ●●●●
3x Data Folding (Order and Chaos)
3x Data Leak Reversal (Future Proof) ●●●
2x Fall Guy (Double Time) ●●
1x Film Critic (Old Hollywood)
1x Globalsec Security Clearance (Data and Destiny)
2x Jak Sinclair (Data and Destiny)
2x John Masanori (Opening Moves)
3x Off-Campus Apartment (Breaker Bay) ●●●
3x Power Tap i[/i] ●●●
3x Street Peddler (The Underway) ●●●
3x Underworld Contact (A Study in Static)

Icebreaker (6)

2x GS Shrike M2 (Data and Destiny)
2x GS Striker M1 (Data and Destiny)
25 influence spent (max 25, available 0)
50 cards (min 50)
Cards up to Intervention

Deck built on NetrunnerDB.

Aaron gives a great amount of protection to the off-campus plan. The fall guys are just there for decks that are still running Best Defense. If you suspect 24/7 make sure to keep 2 counters on Aaron, so you are protected from all-seeing eye. Could have almost too much draw, the sports hoppers might be better off as Access to Globalsec.

*edit: hopper not copter

*edit 2: Just a couple of non-completely obvious tips; Try and reserve a couple of aaron tokens in case they feel silly and vamp themselves on the citadel trace. They won’t do it twice, or just use him early instead of citadel to get dlr’ing earlier. Mid-game after you get the basic dlr engine up (dlr+a way to tag), if they have ~8 cards milled and not popped a jackson or preemptive, drop another day and run archives. There is a very good chance that you can pick up an agenda or two and use the cash to snowball into a late game lock.

this looks really solid

Only thing I wish you could squeeze in there is either Peace in Our Time or Reaver, although Aaron will probably get you pretty comparable levels of draw for cheaper.

IYou could probably also cut the DLR, Peddlers, Off Campus and maybe fairs and go for a money and breakers build out of Sunny. Jak lets you bypass the restriction of Peace in Our Time and Hostage will reliably let you get either Aaron, Beth, Supplier or Film Critic depending on the match-up.

Sunny looks to be in a really good place.

Looks pretty good…
Card draw seems strong enough to support Career Fair… Which is really the only problem I have with that card in Sunny.

I’ve never run a DLR version of Sunny before, but this one seems pretty good.

I kind of like how ridiculously thematic that DLR in Sunny is. Seeing as she’s a security specialist. Also, deck looks great!

DLR Sunny is a weird bird. Its more interactive than most anarch DLR rigs, it carries real breakers, and the money to use them in the late game. It is trying to force ice rez’s after you have got a nexus out, and doesn’t float tags between runner turns. It also makes at least one run every turn once set up (mostly unsuccessfully).

DLR is there primarily as your multi-access not for a mill win con (you can generally win much faster going in and grabbing the agendas in archives), you mill while maintaining the threat of a remote lock with your real breakers.

Its downside is it is a sunny deck and takes a while to get momentum. Often spotting the corp 4 points before trying to gain control. The upside is that once going it has more inevitability than even au revoir CT. I also feel that it has less answers to it once set up than any other control deck. Getting ~8 credits (+2 power tap on nexus trace, +4 for drip, +2 tap on sanctuary) and 4/5 mills per turn is positively demoralizing to almost any corp deck.

John and Jak are your tagging mechanism, right? Aaron to clear the tag if they decide the Citadel trace is worth Vamping themselves?

Also and primarily, failed nexus trace on a jak run to get tagged.

Played yesterday with this list but swapping Career Fairs for Peace in our Time. What a blast! Performed really well throughout the SC helping me to reach 3rd place, with two losses in the Top 4 and another in the swiss rounds against the same HB EtF that went really close.

I’m still not sure about Data Folding vs. Daily Casts… Definitely I’ll keep on tuning this list. Way to go with Sunny, IMHO.

Took this to a SC with following changes:
-1 DLR, -1 Street Peddler, +1 The Source, +1 Daily Casts. (I knew I would be facing a CI list because one of the guys going always, always plays CI. The deck has zero chance of beating it without The Source. Pro tip: You can use Fall Guy to prevent Source trashing. I forgot this and lost because of it. Street Peddler is difficult for Sunny to use; Sunny is at her heart a combo deck that needs a bunch of pieces to work together. So, effects that remove random cards like Peddler or PE/PU are really not what she wants to be doing. Peddler does accelerate your setup time, but I’ve found the cost to be too high, so dropping one of them was acceptable. DLR doesn’t need to be a 3x since you only ever really need to see one. Daily Casts was added because the problem OCA Sunny decks seem to have is a lack of money and difficulty in getting their money going, which Daily Casts helps with beautifully.)

-1 Aaron, +1 Hostage (Honestly I considered dropping the other Peddlers for another Hostage and Daily Cast. So, here, while we do like multiples of Aaron since we want him early (and in fact this is why I didn’t mess with Jak/John numbers), Hostage is better for us to find any of our Connections early if drawn, and if drawn late, is still useful to pull out Source, Beth, or the third Contact. I have never played a Connections Sunny deck without Hostage, and the only good argument to me for cutting it is Influence, and since I had an extra Aaron eating that influence… A couple of the Jinteki decks were running Voter Intimidation to kill Aaron, and that’s the only reason I’d leave Aaron in.)

The deck performed poorly, mostly because I misread the meta. I knew the CI deck would be there, but I also have trouble beating CI with any deck, so just decided I’d let that one go. I was expecting a good percentage of CtM, and in testing I’d found this to have significant game against it, with a turn 1 Sensies being the thing that gave CtM the best chance of winning. However, I didn’t expect 5 Jinteki decks out of the 10 players at the SC. She crushed the one HB ETF deck I played against, though. And of course, in round 1 I got matched up against the CI deck. So Sunny went 1-3 on the day. My Corp (EtF NEXT Batty) performed better, but lost to some unlucky draws and went 2-2.

Going forward I would say that The Source is almost 100% required for Sunny at this point, with only the weird Sunny decks that are trying to run without Contacts and just pressure the Corp being able to not play that card. Beth is invaluable to Sunny, the 3 influence is the biggest hit to her effectiveness.

I really missed my Professional Contacts; I’d forgotten just how wonderful it is to get cards and money at the same time in Sunny. I think you could potentially do a Profession Contacts + DLR build if you dropped OCA and picked up Hostages.

Fall Guy overperformed. I’ll have to strongly consider giving him higher billing.

One oddity that I didn’t pick up before I took it to the SC was the weird interaction of Film Critic + Source + Another Day. The other thing that bothered me was that usually by the time I felt I could play Another Day, I could just not play it and keep running instead. It never helped me to maintain a lock, (I either already had a lock, or else couldn’t get agendas with Another Day) and only seemed useful for knocking out Scarcity of Resources.

Just have a Fall Guy available to save your Aaron. Since it’ll be tricky to anticipate when they’ll play VI, it’ll also save you some counters too.

So just as an exercise, slotting in the new cards in exchange for older ones in my previous Power Tap Sunny deck… I get this:

Power Tap Sunny

Sunny Lebeau: Security Specialist (Data and Destiny)

Event (9)

Hardware (9)

Resource (23)

Icebreaker (9)

25 influence spent (max 25, available 0)
50 cards (min 50)
Cards up to Quorum

Deck built on NetrunnerDB.

This looks absolutely terrifying. Early game pressure, late game inevitability… It looks like it just has a huge weakness to any Jinteki strategies, as losing any of the 1x cards can make the deck run a lot more clunkily. I feel that justifies the 2x Employee Strikes included. It’s basically structured so that any card drawn is a good card. Because of that I might go down on some of the breakers and add additional copies of Jak and John, and some more Casts. But I’ll take this out for a spin first and see how often breakers clog up my hand.

how is it playing?

I actually hadn’t played it, just put it together. The previous version is far up-thread, you can probably just search for Overmind and find it. That version was working very very well, only failing against Rush decks that could score out before I could establish Nexus+Tap lock, but it used NACH+Film Critic to dodge Breaking News+All-Seeing I, whereas Aaron does that wayyyy better.

why no off campus?

Three main reasons, and one minor reason.
First: Influence and card slots are tight. (I might be able to drop some Overminds to free card slots, but Influence is pretty much locked up behind Power Tap + Fall Guy + Aaron + Source + ProCo + Hostages)
Second: OCA is only occasional card draw. It does trigger off of most installs, but not all of them. I prefer Professional Contacts’ 100% Click = Money+Card to OCA’s 26% Click = Install+Card. Additionally, while Sunny does need to install a bunch of things, I still find the Money+Card to be better than Install+Card.
Third: Off-Campus Apartment only helps with drawing more cards. Sunny’s problem is that she needs cards and money to do things, so money without card draw doesn’t work, and card draw without money also doesn’t work. This was re-inforced when I took the OCA Sunny build to the SC, as two of the three games I lost it was because I had too many cards and not enough money.

And a really minor point, I’d rather draw early in the turn, and OCA tends to draw me a card on the latter half of the round.

seems sound. I make some edits.

Why Dr. Lovegood?

This is the decklist I piloted with good results for my last tournament:

I agree with the discussion about Another Day, Another Paycheck, and I am also now playing with -1 Aaron +1 Hostage, and trying to slot in The Source, too. Still thinking about the OCA engine… But I feel that there isn’t enough draw in your deck with only a ProCo, hoppers and John. Maybe adding 1 or 2 Blockade Runners?
