Better pack an Exposé too, since more than half the decks will likely be Val.
Can you talk a little bit more about your attempts to move nexus around? I still wanna see if I can make it work.
I agree, Nexus seems way too good to ignore.
Also if you are fighting against Nexus, Globalsec Security access and the breakers why even play Sunny?
I do think most of Sunny’s cards look good, but I’m terrible with proxies and don’t have D&D so my proper playtesting of her will have to wait until… next week? Whenever D&D actually drops.
I won’t be at all surprised if she ends up being just slightly too slow – or even significantly so. Globalsec Security Access is… awkward as all get out but I can still see some potential advantages to running it with influence being so tight. But to do so without giving up a lot of clicks frequently you need Pancakes, and enough of them in a 50 card deck is too much influence again to be worth it.
That said, if Big Trace becomes a thing (big in both the “many” and “high” senses) I can see Sunny regaining some degree of economic advantage just in dealing with that malarky. Otherwise… one, maybe two more cards feel necessary. Some combination of:
- Something else that benefits from having lots of link,
- Some way of recurring hardware,
- Some means to draw into/tutor and install programs that doesn’t take a tonne of clicks or influence,
- An in-faction card that tolerably mimics the effect of an out-of-faction card that Sunny needs (least likely),
- Another non-program, non-event method of getting into servers to make Jak Sinclair better still while being pricey enough in influence or other costs (use Jak’s Link-reduction cost and/or have it start a trace as well?) to not be easily managed out-of-faction.
Not all of those, and I’m sure there are other ways. But aaany one of those, really, would do Sunny a world of good. It’s something I’m seeing in the Apex thread, too – he’s just one or two cards short of being very good indeed, but that lack really does limit his playability at the moment.
Still very excited to play Sunny, myself, in no small part because I foresee a lot of tracing and other kinds of denial in my meta come D&D, and I want to be prepared for it.
I’m considering running my Kate Nexus deck in store tourneys, not because it’s terribly viable but simply to push NBN trace storm out of the meta.
Actually, to distill her problems they are pretty simple.
1.) Finding, getting the credits for it and playing security nexus.
2.) Boosting link cheaply
3.) Getting a benefit out of security nexus regardless of circumstance.
1 is pretty difficult right now. I still do not really see a way to get this thing out early enough. DaVinci is an interesting proposition with Jak.
2 is tricky if you don’t go rabbit hole and want to spend 6 credits and 3 influence (on the plus side, its only one click!).
3 I have loved power tap and compromised employee in my builds that run high link. If you get above 5 link, sec nexus becomes a pretty huge drain on the corp. I think security testing could be possible, but its pretty expensive.

This is my back of the napkin, un tested build using Security Testing. The big problem for me is that whenever I’ve run a list like this I want parasites to keep centrals clear and datasuckers pumping. A decent alternative might be multithreader in lieu of the datasuckers since the cloud breakers don’t actually cost memory.
I’ve been having a play with something not dissimilar (i.e. sunnysucker); once it gets going the opponent is wrecked. The main question is how to get going quicker. Mr Masanori by himself is just not enough draw.
Some thoughts from play:
Modded isn’t that good a use for the influence. I generally seem to have buckets of money. I think I’d rather have diesel. Or quality time + something else.
Career fair is less useful - most of her resources cost less than three. I’m currently trying street peddler instead, but I’m concerned about the slight anti-synergy with rabbit hole - nexus really wants your link to be 5+; although I’ve not been running power-tap, so perhaps that is the solution).
Drug Dealer is something I considered- one influence and she makes shitloads of drip econ.
Rabbit Hole > Power tap in Sunny. I am 100% convinced by that.
Rabbit hole first, then power tap on top of it. I think if you’re running heavy draw combo cards like modded and fair find use as a good way to not have to discard stuff, and with both drip draws and econ then it makes more sense.
I wonder if Pro Con can be useful.
No mention of Compromised Employee? Same cost, gives dollars, and sort of acts like 2 link when facechecking a new ICE.
Two problems with Comp. Employee:
-
It doesn’t chain itself out, which makes it slower to get the console really working properly.
-
It only does anything for one trace per turn.
I don’t think Compromised Employee is worth it unless you have a bunch of de-rez and destruction, and I also don’t think that de-rez or destruction is even all that strong for Sunny.
I’m playing Off-Campus Apartment and Calling in Favors, and Compromised Employee still hasn’t made the cut for me.
It’s more a case of where do you find the influence for it?
It’s either Emergency Shutdowns at 2 inf. or Crescentus which is going to turn off folding.
Crescentus doesn’t turn off folding. You only install it when you have the MUs or you’re about to use it. It’s totally fine in a folding deck.
By the way
I think the console works just fine at 3 link. 2 to bypass is still awesome.
This may be a build difference - I’m running Jak, Sec testing & masanori, so I’m using it basically every turn. That 2c per turn adds up quickly in that context.
I also use it pretty much every turn, but my economy’s been more than able to keep up. Then again, I have Faust and Scrubber, which might keep my costs lower than yours.
If you play 2 Rabbit Hole and only use them for Nexus traces, they’re kind of like extra copies of Underworld Contact that cost Influence. They’re worse than UC when drawn before Nexus is installed, and better than UC when drawn with Nexus installed (you basically get 2 free clicks to draw and install the second one). Personally, I’d lean towards trimming that influence since there are already influence-free options that perform like slightly-worse UWC (Symmetrical Visage, Data Folding if your rig permits).
Also, is Jak / Masanori / Sec Testing 2 whole Influence better than Jak / Masanori / Scrubber? Seems like in situations where you’re freely Testing you can also be freely trashing shit with Scrubber. You’ll be a little less liquid, but you’ll be harming the corp’s board state more. Then again, forcing multiple ice on Archives with Testing and Sucker is pretty good, so that may be worth the Influence premium if you happen to be running Sucker.
