The Geist Zeitgeist

It’s not a crucial choice and if I see more archangel then I’ll swap back over, but I like hqi right now for two main reasons. One, because it is available as a peddler target, which is nice. Two, it can ride along with another run event. Dirty Laundry into HQ is even nicer when you’ve got an hqi backing you up. And it’s even good in tandem with Siphon (the primary reason I made the swap). Against HB and NEH, they’re often able to spend down their money in response to the siphon, and hqi raises your upside in that scenario. It can even make the choice harder for the Corp; do they really want to spend down and encourage you to access knowing you’ll see two? How do they fancy their chances?

In theory when you’re running 3 sot you figure you’d want legwork, but I found I never ever used sot for legwork. It’s solely for Siphon or LARLA. one copy of legwork once is a lot less powerful than one copy of hqi once. Cost is definitely an issue though, so I totally get preferring legwork. I just like the versatility of hqi in when I can decide to use its pressure.

fwiw, I agree that security chip is underwhelming at best.

@mendax your Eater Geist list is making me feel dirty

I really think @mendax should be forced to supply a collection of heartfelt apologies to go along with the list. @SamRS for the Headlock Reina, as well.

If you’re sorry you’re doing it wrong.

Honestly, with ETF becoming super popular again it may be worth going back to it - it’s NEH matchup is pretty bad but perhaps you can get away with that as a meta call again. Depends on your area, I guess.

What’s up Stimhack!

I’m pretty sure I’ve stumbled upon a super legit Geist deck.

Undefeated on OCTGN

Armand “Geist” Walker: Tech Lord

Event (10)
1x Fisk Investment Seminar
3x Legwork
1x Levy AR Lab Access •••
3x Sure Gamble
2x The Maker’s Eye ••••

Hardware (8)
3x Autoscripter
2x Clone Chip ••••
3x Forger

Resource (13)
3x Bank Job
2x Sacrificial Construct ••
2x Same Old Thing
2x Street Peddler ••
1x Symmetrical Visage
3x Technical Writer

Icebreaker (11)
3x Crowbar
2x Faerie
3x Shiv
3x Spike

Program (3)
3x Crescentus

The premise of the deck is that Autoscripter buys you back the clicks you lose installing all these cheap cloud breakers, essentially making every turn a 5 click turn. Tech Writer acts as passive econ while you install all this stuff. Sac Construct is there primarily to protect Autoscripter, but it can be used on Faerie too if that’s more relevant. Sac Construct and Tech Writer are both Geist triggers as well.

I’m not easily impressed by fringe decks, but this really has me hyped. We decided to have a Jank GNK after Worlds, and I found this synergy by accident. I played Sac Construct for Plascrete protection (and mostly for clot) in my Kate, so I decided to check out the other hardware it could be used for. Tech Writer easily slotted in after that. This deck plays waaay more like Kate than it does any other Criminal, but It’s kind of like a blitzy Kate rather than the inevitability of PPVP.

I’m not sure if you mean to do this, but the list you linked differs from the one you posted. Which one has been working the best for you? Also, no Siphon?

Read the NRDB comments for both answers :stuck_out_tongue:

I love Tech Writer in Geist.

so many people seem to be down on it, but why? it’s functionally like Scheherazade, but with two important distinctions: doesn’t blow your whole rig if it goes, and: doesn’t cost any influence, which is huge for criminal.

It’s also a click slower and vulnerable to resource trashing. That said, multiple copies work in TW when they don’t in sheherazade so it has that going for it.

i wouldn’t say it’s a click slower when that click includes a card draw, and i think the multiple copies working things ends up in the wash of getting your credits now (Scheherazade) and having to cash out completely by trashing it. these are good points, but i think they’re mainly points of Technical Writer vs Scheherazade in general, but i think the two, specifically in Geist, i like the no influence thing a heck of a lot, and i know Geist generally has more recursion than other criminals, but it’s still awful for him to lose a bunch of programs (instead of just one)

My thing with your Geist, @Nobo715, with no Desperado, no Siphon… seems super light on creds, esp. if landing a Bank Job becomes an issue. Seems like Kati would be quite viable.

Yeah, I’d definitely play TW before scheherazade, but I don’t really see a need for either. Then again, my deck is very tag me and run based, so it’s not really a great fit for me. Perhaps if I get a bit more rig buildy after sports hopper drops, I’ll give it a go.

Is this deck not close to 0% vs Blue Sun. It looks like it suffers against big ice or lots of small ice equally. It’s probably OK-good vs the meta decks at the moment. I think you’re being too cute with Sac construct. I think you want a corroder and a decoder.

Yeah I honestly thought nobo was trolling nrdb with that deck between the title and sac construct. Although I have been wanting to try construct with faeries, seems reasonable

Forger has to be the console, or else you have to play link. I explained my Siphon decision on NRDB, it boils down to not wanting to spend cloud breakers on anything but accesses.

Visage was a Kati at one point. If I was going to dedicate more slots to econ I would probably choose Casts over Kati, because Tech Writer is really only great mid-late game, so if the econ is going to struggle it is going to be in the early game (assuming you don’t get a Bank Job or a Sure Gamble).

I should stop theorycrafting because I haven’t played your list. But Forger is terrible. It’s a console that says +1 link. The decoy effect isn’t that strong because you can trash anything to save yourself from traffic accident - scorched and tags come in twos these days. Play either access to globalsec or dyson mem chip for your link and play almost any other criminal console (but actually desperado)!

They do need the two tags though, a lot of the time. So you really can save yourself from getting Traffic Accidented, as long as you it early. (It also draws you a card). If I have another in hand, I’ll usually clear a tag with Forger and reinstall it.

Forger is not terrible. It’s not as good as Desperado in Sec Testing builds, or anything that runs a lot. In my experience, if you’re not running efficient breakers, you can’t run a lot anyway. I think PPVP Kate would pick Astrolabe over Desperado even if it were in faction, for instance.

Like most Geist cards, Tech Trader is the card we’re all looking for.
